We have about 90% of the neighbors that cut their grass way too low. Excuses are...I don't want to cut grass twice a week or I have too many weeds and I need to keep them down. Well, if you did not cut it so low you would not have the weeds and if you cut it at three inches twice a week if needed the grass will choke out the weeds.

I have a MTD built Toro that does the same thing. If you look at the pulley that you want to mako wider, you can see the belt keeper has been bent to allow you to slip the belt back on. That is where your problem is. All the belt keepers have to be tight and not give the belt easy access off the pulleys
@JustPlainCommonSense6 жыл бұрын
The fix is simple. Just lock out any position on the deck height controller that puts the belt in a bind. You're welcome. ;-) I might see you this weekend for a few minutes.

This has been a recurrent problem/frustration with my LTX-1050 (50", 22HP Kawasaki powered) Cub. I've gotten sick of blowing through $50+ deck belts twice a year. I''ve looked at a few other possible cause/fix scenarios, but between this and the deck height controls (the cable/pulley system) that are constantly broken, well not a happy camper...... If I ever buy another Cub it won't be a Home Depot/ Lowes/ Tractor Supply variety - for sure!

By the way I have the exact same mower you do exactly the same Mower and I bought it really cheap

Looks like the same basic deck that was on a White MTD tractor I parted out 7-10 years ago. It had the same J hook things in the back to attach the deck and that same double idler pulley which I think I have in my grain bin storage. If I can find that double pulley I’m going to try to adapt it to the pulley box on my Toro 522xi so that I can run one belt forward to mount a blower on the front to help blow grass off the driveway. From your video it looks like that double pulley is big enough for 5/8” belts. I’ll try to find it today or Tuesday.

FYI, you can ALWAYS get your lady to mow when she's on a riding mower and having fun! Edging & trimming with a walk behind is work! Ha ha ha As for mowing levels, you should NEVER, EVER mow below level 4! You keep the the grass cooler & healthier when you mow at 4 or 5. Also water less as well.

My answer to lack of tension? Throw the spring out and put a turnbuckle on it. Stick a mini C-clamp on it to prevent vibration from loosening the turnbuckle. Works well for my used Lastec Articulator.
@adamdorris40815 жыл бұрын
There are many factors that could be the actual cause. The one rear hanger looked welded and that stacked pulley looked like it was tilted forward a little bit. The play in the idler arm is not too bad and that flat idler is the right one. But sometimes you have to reverse engineer things to get real results.
