Hi Joel - First a major win for us based on your videos. I have two 15 lb young dogs who are very reactive and beyond incurable about people coming into the house, till yesterday. Based on your videos, I tried something new. A plumber came to our house, a stranger to them and us (not that they are fine with people they know). I let them bark at the window. Then told them 'enough' and to go upstairs and closed the door. More barking behind the door, and I said 'enough' and slapped the door, after which they were quiet. The plumber went back outside to get something. I let the dogs back into the room, now that they were calm. I went outside and made sure they could see me elbow bump the plumber. He then came in the house and this time they milled around like he wasn't even there. He brought in heavy machinery, went up and down to the basement and they literally paid no attention to him. I was completely gobsmacked. Words can not describe how grateful I am for this sea change in their behavior. However, I have not cracked the code on walking my two dogs together. They do ok separately but with a lot of attention and correction. And other than their reactivity problem, if I walk them on the same side, they are very likely to escalate quickly and then go after each other. So I never walk them on the same side. If you can ever do a video on two dogs that go at each other as part of their reactivity, that would be great. Thank you again. Your videos are brilliant. If I lived on the West Coast I'd bring my dogs in for a session.

I actually taught my dogs "other side", which prompts them to switch back to the side I was walking them on. I also use this around trees, poles or anything I need them to go around so I don't have to manuver the leash around objects.

As someone who regularly walks 3+ dogs from different households this is accurate. Starting off in the yard or house is super important. For those asking about walking on the same side instead of 2 sides: It’s super practical. Dogs on one side, cars and others on the other. Some people or kids are scared of dogs so it good to be able for the dogs to all be on one side. Also super handy to pick up poop with a free hand and not worry about the dogs stepping in it!

What the heck?!! I thought I was the only one with rascally bully dogs. I love to take em out for a walk but they’re always over crowding and jumping all over the place when I’m even reaching for the harnesses! I know they wanna get out and explore but I’m gonna keep watching your videos and learn me, dern me! 😆. I really love my dogs, I can’t believe I’m a dog lover now. What’s the world coming to? 😅 I got (2) shitzus 🐶🐶 a bass hound 🦧 and (2) rescue standard mixed poodles 🦍🦍 who all want individual attention. Joel.. pray for us! We're watching our neighbors dogs. A high energy young & a older high energy. The older has recently been getting a little reactivity from my older dog because of our new young dog. I'm going to have to walk all 4 together. Ideas on layering attitudes? I'm going to hit them with the not leaving me before we even walk out of the house. So I'm hopeful it will be enough. But.. here I go!

I have 3 dogs but I keep them in front of me but I’m still in control. When I stop I say brake when I start to walk again I say okay. When I’m turning I say turn. They all look behind to see where I’m going to turn at. If they start to rap themselves up I say around. They can get themselves out before they actually tingle themselves to a poll or me.

Don't know if i missed this but maybe the white one have some difficulty hearing? she seemed to react more to visual and physical instruction. I wonder if that could be part of why shes kind of nervous. this was helpful. i didnt exactly learn anything except just confirmed im doing what i should be doing with my pitbull and siberian husky. they both pull. My pitbull is 80lbs so she can pull me right over by herself nevermind my 50lb husky pulling with her lol. At least my pitbull will stop and sit when i tell her to though, my husky REFUSES to do anything i say unless i make him do it after i say it 100 times. even though my pitbull is heavier and more barkier, i focus more on my husky and constantly make sure i have a secured hold on his leash. god forbid if he gets loose. ive chased him around the neighborhood so many times. it takes a whole day to get him back home.

@@samanthahu4803 (I'm not a trainer) but I have heard of people taking their dogs to the vet's office when they don't have an appointment and just taking them out in the parking lot to do basic obedience with LOTS of treats and praise to desensitize them to the vets office. Even asking the vet if its ok to take the dog in then out of the office a few times once they are comfortable in the parking lot. They do this multiple times so they have good association of the vet to cloud out the bad

Watching from the UK. I now have a 16 week Cavapoo with a 2.5 year old Shitzu. The Shitzu has always been a slow walker - certainly never excited about going for a walk. Am I being over ambitious trying to walk the two together given the age of the puppy? Currently walking both individually. The puppy walks very well alone. I have tried a couple of times to walk the two but gave up very quickly as I didn’t want them to rehearse poor walking behaviour together. The, video was great. Thank you for posting.

Great tips! I have 2 dogs who are brothers and become super competitive by attacking each other on leash when they see other dogs (jumping, barking and snapping at each other); but they don't attack the other dog. Off leash they are excited but just want to meet and play - they race each other to get to the dog. We go to group lessons every week and can behave fine 'at school' where none of this excitement is displayed. How can I control them on the walk to stop them doing this? All tips are extremely welcome! Thank you.

I'm curious as to why you say all on one side? I have a Husky and an Anatolian Shepherd mix. They will both sit at the door one, but the minute the door opens, they both bolt. They are at the end of the leash before I get the door fully opened. For me, taking them one at a time wouldn’t work as they are not crated. What would be the best way to correct the bolting?
@j.munday79133 жыл бұрын
Baby steps. I'd start with practicing opening the door while they sit (leashes on), and if they move just close the door again. When they sit and wait for you after the door is open, then start working on getting out the door. You know they'll bolt, so be prepared with the correction he showed in the video. When they start behaving then you can start walking. Basically they need to learn each step in depth. You might to go through each of these steps for weeks until they get the hang of it depending on their age, but in the long run it'll be far safer for you and them. :) Good luck!

@@j.munday7913 agree, a good door slam really does wonders, along with a loud no! We just adopted a husky in April, she’s almost 1yo now, never had been on a leash. She’s pretty crazy. you need to do this with more dogs. ten dogs. one per finger. and these are all prop dogs they're too well behaved, probably previously trained somewhere else using positive reinforcement only. you need to use real dogs, 10 aggressive dogs that might kill each other. put them on harnesses and be more exciting / give more treats because you are being too mean
