I’m 69, just 11 years behind you and been Plant-Based since I’m 58. Lost weight, got rid of crippling arthritis. Do I miss being in a wheelchair? H-E-Double Toothpicks NO! All one needs is motivation as when you are eating the food, it is so delicious! Still learning more daily so I’m grateful to KZbin. There is always someone sharing something good. I’ll tell you, my mother, sister and mother-in-law all died of Breast Cancer. And here I’d lost weight, got out of a wheelchair and my husband was unwilling to even taste what I was cooking for myself….UNTIL he got Prostate CANCER and that was detected at Stage 4. So he had to have the surgery. He is Plant-Based now because he needed to heal but also survive. Cancer has not returned and I have dodged cancer all the way myself. Three of my husband’s buddies at his work he retired from, also had the prostate cancer and they went for chemo and radiation. They lived just 3 months each after they began treatment. So we are happy that my husband, Jim, is doing so well. He is so-o-o-o sorry he did not listen to me earlier as the surgery, though he feels well now, he lives in adult diapers. And he is resistant to leaving high fat foods alone. I just won’t eat it. I have another motivation - not just avoiding cancer, but my father and just about everyone else in his family, died of Alzheimer’s. And Dad was already really bad at my age. He had symptoms from about age 60, but we only recognized it looking back. I have no problems with memory as this diet seems to fix just about everything. I did have some short term memory issues when I started and they just evaporated. I had a broken ankle since going Plant-Base, and the doctors told me it would never heal. They gave me to take bottle of Calcium, didn’t do anything, then I started eating KALE!!! It healed. My doctor is amazed at me as I do not take medications as I do not have to. He says his other patients my age take 11+ meds daily and some even more. So glad you are now a part of the people who can see what is good and what is not so stand strong.

When I went first went plant based (macrobiotic/vegan) in 1986, few people had really heard of kale as a food. It was a decoration they used around the food display in the food court at my college which I used to take and fill up my plate. One day, a food court worker stopped me and said she was wondering who was taking the "decorations" from the food display! She offered to bring out fresh kale from the back kitchen whenever I visited. So glad I found Chef AJ, Dr Esselstyn, Ann, Jane & his family, and Dr. John McDoughall and his wife Mary to get me back on track. It is so true that you helped bring their science to life through your recipes!

I'm 54 and have not eaten animal products since 1985..and mostly raw. I never ate grains or nuts but I did eat raw oils avocados a lot and sea salt and black coffee every day for 31 years. Recently I quit sea salt and oils and avocados...overt fats. The only cooked thing I'll eat is potatoes. It's hard to imagine cooked starches are as healthy as is raw fruit as a calorie source. I still struggle to quit black coffee

Several benign knots showed up in my breasts after drinking collagen peptide powder in a fruit shake once per day for 1 month. I did this a few years ago. After figuring the powder was causing it, I threw it away. No additional knots have developed. Also, before eating an anti inflammatory diet several months ago, I was in a highly stressful job and eating bad foods and developed breathing problems similar to panic attacks. Doctors couldn't figure out what was causing it but once I started eating better, they went away. I feel way better all together on a good diet.

1-2 servings of healthy soy per day. Soy milk, tofu, tempeh, and whole soy beans. Healthy soy has been shown to ease menopause symptoms in randomized controlled trials. I am from Ikaria (blue zone). The oldest Icarians lived many years while remaining functional. They were poor people and they were fasting a lot. Their food was at small quantities but of high biological value. They grew their own food and walked a lot as they had to. There were no roads. The island is a sea mountain Island. Seeing the two old ladies arguing against olive oil, I think that the Greek, but also Mediterranean civilizations diet has olive oil as a basic element. However, while they eat healthily and with lots of raw vegetables, they are old. The point is to realize which diet keeps you healthy and young for a longer period of time.

Is it ok to eat peanut butter?
@sowmindful15012 жыл бұрын
It’s best to avoid if one has heart disease, but if not, then every once in a while isn’t bad. Natural Grocers makes a defatted and salt free peanut butter powder that’s excellent.
@alisonlutton93782 жыл бұрын
Nuts are discussed here when the Esselstyn’s compare their cookbooks. Nuts, seeds and avocados are healthy whole foods but calorie dense and high fat so Esselstyn’s reverse heart disease cookbook avoids them. AJ doesn’t use any nuts because they trigger weight gain for her. Factory made, processed nut butter usually has added oils, salt, sugars or preservatives but there are some with only peanuts in the ingredient list. I love almond butter and my neighborhood shop recently installed a row of grinders, labeled for coffee, peanuts or almonds, so I can drop in a scoop of nuts, push a button and fill my jar with pure nut butter!

Last year he had an Echo cardio gram last May & stress test which was fine & exercising on mini trampoline but after getting the vaccine in August a month later tried exercising again but got tremendous pain down both arms. Still can feel pressure in chest when moving lawn. He also has CLL. He's naturally slim & hated losing too much weight. Are walnuts still a no no?
