When Brian Burke managed Anaheim he wanted Federov off the team because he was a bad influence on his teammates. Burke said that Federov embraced the California life style, didn’t go hard in practice, and was aloof. The team won the cup without him so it worked out

If only they had not made him play defense, the wings would have won more cups and retired his jersey. I played the game, I know why he left Detroit. Yzerman was never the same after his knee injury, what an asshole stupid decision it was to make the most lethal offensive threat in hockey play defense.
