Saffiayah Khan describes her utopia where more citizens take and active role leaving no room for specially identified activists. Brummie activist Saffiyah Khan went viral in April, 2016 when she a photographer snapped a picture of her defending Saira Zafar from a group of far-right English Defence League supporters at a demonstration in Birmingham - being hailed as a symbol of hope for not just the city but the world. Following the media frenzy, Saffiyah continues to use her platform as to reduce islamaphobia and racism. This year will see Saffiyah launch her first solo photo exhibition, TEDxYouth@Brum talk and many more adventures where she will get to explore important stories to inspire a new generation. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at www.ted.com/tedx

What a great story and TED Talk! Another great youtube video on this subject is 'What Happened to Dujuan Armstrong' on Planet Classroom Network. This is about a mother who wants to know the truth behind her son's mysterious death in jail.

Well being an active person (in specific domains of course) is what an 'activist' mean anyway. It would not help in anyway or even harm to redifine those terms. Just try to help people understand what the term really stands for and for what manner of conduct it calls for.

There's another side to this girls behaviour that doesn't fit the narrative that she's a poster girl for progressivist activism. I'm not against her and I respect her right to voice an opinion but I think it's only fair top point out that she has some very toxic politics and narrow minded opinions. She clearly has an underdeveloped self awareness which is endemic in modern leftism.

could you elaborate? or do you have an article? i'm genuinely curious. I would probably agree with everything Saffiyah has to say, but I also understand that people my age on the left need to be relatable in order to gain traction with there ideals, if that makes sense. Not to be so judgmental. Perhaps with the rise of smartphones and technologies, more people my age are used to their bubbles, on both sides, and self awareness is waining thin for generations to come
