gowtham saddala ! I go by every word of what you said. What is being done now is an appeasement policy for roping in foreign investors. We are framing rules, altering taxation policy (GST), tweaking the Banking (to make transactions all by e-mail, forgetting that half to two-thirds of Indian Economy isn't accountable lying outside the purview of formal 'Westernised Economy'). This incapacity to understand micro-Economy & viewing everything by Macro-Economics leads Indian Economy astray. The aim is noble, I agree. But it should be brought on track gradually & not by yanking everyone to make payments by e-mail. Indian Economy is run for them, by their votaries in India. You administer medicine n small doses. Chemotherapy is reserved for cancer patients only & India has a healthy Economy (painted as 'sick' by foreign pundits, who'd want India to sell of its global No.1 Railway network to global private parties for 'efficient' & 'profitable' running). India confronted the biggest global storm in 2008-9 & came out successful & in good health (@ 7% growth) because of its internal structure. India, as long as it remains a self-sustaining Economy, will be immune from global Economic vicissitudes. It doesn't want to compete with China for prestige sake. It isn't a party issue (BJP or Congress) but concerns Indian population, the prime-movers of Indian Economy.

@@nandhannandhan8155 demonetization is bearable....But gst is unbearable....Due to hefty amounts on land registration fees that includes another tax in name of gst is seriously stopping buyers to buy lands....How come people pay hefty amounts of tax without getting the proper benefits...In many countries like us the tax is 40% of income but they are enjoying it on their students free education, free hospital services....Now don't say take treatment in government hospitals ...We all know the facilities available in government hospitals..And how many people it can accomodate? @@SreekanthreddyPeram! There is no chance of either GST or global Economic crisis to hit India in 2010, simply because Economic crisis came earlier while GST came later. By 2010 (thanks to Manmohan Singh) the Eonomy is doing well at 8% or so doubling every 9 years (almost touched 10% occasionally - doubling every 7 years ). The down-turn began somewhere in 2014 or after, by profligate spending - as India is flush with money. But caution was thrown to winds & means to create wealth got side lined. Cosmetic measures like banks-merger, GST etc are all designed as posturing to the world (we too are a big nation with big banks etc etc) on cat-walk.

*Recession* ?? Banwarilal was a samosa seller in an Indian town. He used to sell 500 samosas everyday on a cart in his locality. People liked his samosas for last 30 years, because he cared for hygiene in preparation and selling, would use good quality oil and other ingredients, provide free chutneys with samosas. He would throw all unsold samosas to poor people, cow, dogs etc and did not sell unsold stale samosas to people next day. Banwari earned good reputation and enough money from samosa selling and he never faced downfall in his sale in last 30 years. He was able to fund his son's MBA education in a famous private college in Noida out of his earnings. Recently his son Rohit completed his MBA and came back home as he could not get appropriate placement. Rohit started taking interest in his father's samosa business. He had not been involved in his father's business earlier as he considered that to be an inferior job. During MBA, Rohit read a lot on recession. He read that it is coming up in global economy and how it will affect job prospects, increase unemployment etc. So he thought that he should advise his father of the risks in the business of samosa selling on account of recession. He told his father that recession may cause fall in sale of samosas, so he should prepare for cost cutting to maintain the profit. Banwari was glad that his son knows so much about business and taking interest in his business. He agreed to follow advice of his son. Next day, Rohit suggested using 20% used cooking oil and 80% fresh. People did not notice the change in the taste and 500 samosas were sold. Rohit was motivated by the profit made by this savings. Next day he suggested increased share of used oil to 30% and reduce the quantity of free chutney. That day, only 400 samosas were sold and 100 samosas were thrown to poor people and dogs. Rohit told his father that recession has really set in as predicted by him, so more cost cutting is to be done and they would not throw stale samosas but would fry them again next day and sell them. Quantity of used oil will also be increased to 40% and to make only 400 samosas to avoid wastage. Next day 400 samosas were sold but customers were not feeling good old taste. But Rohit told his father about savings because of his smart planning. Father told him that he may be knowing better, being educated. Next day Rohit decided to use 50% used oil, do away with sweet chutney and provided only green chutney, made 400 samosas. That day only 300 samosas could be sold as people started disliking the taste. Rohit told Banwari "Look , I had predicted great recession is arriving and sales would fall. Now this is happening. We will not throw away these 100 stale samosas but would fry and sell them tomorrow." Father agreed to his MBA son. Next day, 200 fresh samosas were made with 50% used oil, 100 stale fried samosa were offered for sale but only 200 could be sold as people sensed the drastic fall in quality. Rohit said that recession has really set in and now people have no money left to spend so they should make only 100 samosas and recycle 100 stale samosas and stop giving paper napkins . After this only 50 samosas could be sold . Rohit told his father " Now recession has taken people in its grip. People have lost income. So, this business will be in loss and they should stop selling samosas and do something else." Now his father started shouting, "I did not know that they teach cheating in the name of MBA. I lost my money in getting your MBA education. In last 30 years of samosa selling, I never had recession but your greed for profit brought recession in my business and caused closure. Get out of my business and I will get it back to earlier level. If you want, I can hire you for washing dishes as that is the only thing you can do despite being MBA educated." Thereafter , Banwari started following his age old wisdom and fair practices in business. Within a month his sale reached to 600 samosas. *Recession is nothing but convergence of greed of government to extract more taxes, greed of big businesses to be more profitable by reducing quality and using unfair practices and also of careless arrogant employees giving pathetic service as long as profits are coming. Recession is the punishment given to businesses and government by people by restricting their spending. Nice article, worth reading ...

ramu kota ! Beyond the past one decade when the global economy was in turmoil (initiated by the bankruptcy of Lehman Bros in America), India performed rather well. It was because Indian Economy wasn't fully geared to the world economy. Its domestic economy depends on local factors. So your argument sounds hollow. Monkeying around with certain factors in the economy, like currency devaluation-cum-withdrawal, when the economy was booming should've been avoided. Riding RBI in the hope that the government will have total control over it, also boomeranged. This ruling party who declares that it has immense faith in 'free' economy shouldn't have done that but allowed the market forces to have free play. Let's face some home truths. Point is, this 'regime' inherited a very sound economy from its previous political dispensation, along with a whopping economic cushion. By mismanaging this economy this cushion has been worn thin & now the impact is felt hard. Excision of purely 'monetarist' policies in economic management will yield desired results, at least now. Lastly (to the forces of governance), please don't forget the fact that you are looking tall, because you are standing on the shoulders of 'Economics' giants from the past.

GST is good. But the time of implementation is wrong. 2016 November faced demonitization problem. Without recovery from that situation, the Government implemented GST. With single taxation system, investments will come into country. But the taxes are divided into four slabs. That is not good. All goods except petrol, diesel, luxury items like cars of high end, cigarette, unhealthy food like baked chips, cool drinks should be charged with high tax rate and all remaining items in one slab of 5/6/7%. Present income tax slabs are based on 1980s, 90s commodity prices. We are in 2019 the slabs should be revised accordingly.

@@chaits4377 When you speak One Nation one Tax. There should be single taxation. India is a country of middle class and lower class. To give benefits to them, all commodities should be in 6% or so not more than 8%. Then these two classes will survive happily. Even the impact is on micro and small scale units. They have to pay more initially and investment is getting more. I'm a micro unit owner. Before GST, I used to pay 9% taxes for raw materials, now I am paying 42% i.e. 33% more money for taxes. The calculations will change.

What India can do if they (their Army, which is 'de facto 'ruler there don't want it, but the people need it) don't want to import from India ? Indian trade with others (Bangladesh, Sri Lanka & Bhutan are good; Nepal leans on China more & Afghanistan gets it from Cha bahar port in Iran). Their total trade with India is minimal (in comparison totrade with the West). It can be improved if 'they' desire. It is too premature to plan for $5 trillion economy, presently. Someone is putting ideas in PM 's mind (including some in India). That might hurt India, but who cares in the West, who sponsor such drastic amends? I wonder whether this government has the capacity to weather the Economy well !
