I encountered this myself. I had cortisol done at 8 AM when I told them I normally sleep 5 AM to 1 PM. It was 4. They said hey that's low we need to keep you here all day because you might be in danger. I said, "isn't the level based on your sleep wake cycle?". I didn't trust the 25 year old fellowship patient pressuring me to doing a cortisol stim test. So I waited. The attending came at 2 PM and I said hey take it again now it should be normal now. The attending said sure we can do that. The level was 16. Epic. This is at ONE OF THE MOST PRESTIGIOUS HOSPITALS IN THE COUNTRY!!! THIS LEVEL OF STUPIDITY AND INCOMPETENCE THAT A NON-MEDICAL PROFESSIONAL KNOWS SOMETHING THE """"""PROFESSIONAL""""" DOESN'T.

I went to the ER due to passing a kidney stone. They measured my glucose (I was fasting) at 140. When I saw my GP she told me I was diabetic. I asked her if the glucose might have been so high because I was experiencing severe pain. She said, "No! YOU ARE DIABETIC!" My morning fasting glucose is typically 95 or lower. Some physicians are chomping at the bit to make a hasty diagnosis and are ignorant of physiology.

This often happens when blood pressure measurements are taken during stressful periods too. Patients are hastily placed on blood pressure medication after erroneous blood pressure measurements. Too often the medical personnel are using a digital device and not allowing the cuff to completely deflate before taking another reading. A manual reading on the opposite side should be done. Not rapid consecutive readings on the same arm. But nowadays that’s often done because of our system of assembly line medicine.😕

It angers me that doctors don't tell their patients that lipids tests should be a fasting test and when I go to a lab I don't get asked the question "have you been fasting?" There are very few doctors who are trustworthy like you. Most doctors I see are only dupes of pharmaceutical industry.

Totally agree! And even if your doctor or MA tells you to fast, they only tell you to do if for 8 hrs which isn't right either because in order for your Triglyceride count to be accurate, you need to fast for 12 hours.

I was just speaking to a lady the other day who went to her doctor in the area we live, and was diagnosed with cancer according to lab test. She is in her mid 40's and went in for chemo therapy treatments. She had repeated blood test, and had been on chemo for sometime. Finally she decided to take a drive to the University hospital where it was discover that she never had cancer at all. The lab continued to make mistakes for a long time. The long chemo treatments unfortunately has taken a toll on her body. She said it has destroyed her.

I've had this happen to two people I know. They told me about their blood tests and being 'off' and being worried etc. I always ask: "How much Tylenol do you take?" As you can guess... that was it. Both frequent Tylenol users (one guy took it everyday, throughout the day).

My WBCs are Always below 4 for decades. Everytime a doctor sees it, they go down the path of cancer for me but nothing ever comes up. Im athletic, rarely ever sick.

Low WBC doesn't mean cancer, especially 4 which is just under normal starting range. For the last 30 years my WBC rarely crossed 5 and at one point, about 2 yrs ago it was 4 point something, just on the lowest reference range figure. As a matter of fact, I have seen many videos that state it's good to have a lower WBC

I've only been keeping track of my WBC count for the past 10 years, and it is always low. Last time, it was 3.4, and I'm always worried about catching an infection of some sort. I never got the jab, and as far as I know, I never got c@vid either.

I always fast before all labs, including A1C. I hate it when you have a CMP which supposedly doesn't require fasting. However, if your glucose is higher than 99 mg/dl because you have eaten, they will flag it as "High". Also, when you have a Lipid Panel, they usually tell you to fast 8 hours only which isn't accurate because in order for your Triglyceride count to be accurate, you need to fast for 12 hours.

Dr. Dhand. great video. A few years ago I took a typical blood lab and it came back with several worrisome results. My doctor called very concerned and that I had to do it over. I felt great and had just done a heavy weight workout in our gym just before the test. It hit me that I should research if a lot of resistance training could effect blood labs and I found that this could happen. So the next day, I took the blood lab before I went to the gym rather than after working out like I did for the first blood test. Everything was great on the second test and I sent my doctor the peer reviewed paper requiring possible errors in blood lab results after doing a couple hours of resistance training. My doctor wrote back that he knew all along about this! LOL. cheers

I've had it happen more than once. The two worst times were when I had false positives for Hep B and lupus anticoagulant antibody after a full-term stillbirth where I was having very strange bruising and allergy symptoms (we now know I have MCAS) and I was on high doses of steroids. The Hep B made no sense and I was already in such a bad place due to losing my child that it really weighed on me heavily because it didn't make any sense unless I was exposed in the hospital, but that was months before and the test would only show positive if I was exposed within the 9 weeks prior. I wrote to the Hep B foundation asking questions because it didn't make any sense and asked about false positives to which I was told was impossible. Many months went by and as my strange allergy symptoms calmed down I was retested for both the lupus anticoagulant antibody and Hep B tests. Both were negative. With Hep B there's 3 parts to the test and all 3 were negative. I had NEVER been exposed. I sent my new results to the Hep B foundation and told them I did in fact have a false positive test and they didn't even acknowledge me. 🙄 You'd think they'd want to know so they didn't give someone else false information in the future, but I guess not.

In the UK they tell people you don't need to fast for cholesterol, lipid tests now. That was never case. You always had to fast. You get a high result if you don't fast. Better to scare😮 you onto statins. I still fast.

@@drsuneeldhand I have A1C. Cholesterol, Triglycerides. HDL. LDL. Liver, thyroid every 6 months and its always says non fasting on the path lab form. In fact I was told it was non fasting when I first started having these blood test on a regular basis. I did ask for a fasting insulin a 3 years ago, and was refused, being told its not necessary. My friends who have the same tests, at different surgeries, are all told non fasting.

I mistakenly said “blood” test, it was actually a “urine” test. Erroneous test result nonetheless. The doc’s message reads (with permission from mom), “Hi __, It is very important that you do not mix the tramadol with any alcohol. Your urine drug test was positive for both. It is not safe to take tramadol if you have been drinking.” The doc simply concluded my mom is a liar and closet drinker.

I experienced this recently. I had an NHS checkup and they did a fingerprick cholesterol test, which the Nurse said was dangerously high. Having a good diet, regular exercise and a BMI of 20, I found this hard to believe so opted for a full blood test which came back normal for Cholesterol but gave an HbA1c reading of 44, making me pre-diabetic, which again I doing hard to believe. I then sought a 2nd opinion from a private GP and the HbA1c result from that (fasting) test was only 35 (i.e. normal) so I had another (also fasting) blood test on the NHS and that gave an even higher result of 45! I'm now waiting for another test to be sent to both labs simultaneously to find out what happened. Incidentally, when I asked the NHS GP about the initial (fingerprick) cholesterol result, he said he knows they're totally inaccurate but the GP practice doesn't get paid by the NHS for carrying out the health check unless they administer it. It's outrageous and a total waste of money, not to mention that patients can be given completely wrong advice! Had I not opted for the venous blood test straightaway, I could have gone away and tried to reduce my Cholesterol by making (totally unnecessary) dietary changes and had another test in 6 weeks! I dread to think how many patients must be acting on the results of these tests and worse potentially not being diagnosed when they actually do have high cholesterol. I wrote to my MP, who promised to alert the Dept of Health but so far heard nothing. This all started back in February and still isn't resolved to my satisfaction

I know you are speaking of blood tests here, yet I offer this in hopes it will help someone. I have had incorrect stool sample cultures when trying to confirm c-diff on more than one occasion. Best I could figure was which lab I gave the sample to, and/ or whether the lab was closed for the day, a holiday or weekend, and unfortunately coding being given incorrectly. False negatives. My insistence that another be done created more misery by having to wait for a repeat than I can describe. C-diff can be a horrible infection to experience. Thank you for all that you do Dr. Dhan.

I was given a glucose test after i told the nurse i had just eaten oatmeal and honey since i wasnt expecting to be given blood tests.she said she wouldnt include a glucose test but did. My doctor insisted i had diabetes even though i told him i had just eaten honey. I had pain on my back lower left side going around to the front and blood tests showed elevated liver enzymes and C reactive protein was high. Doctor insisted it was gallstones even though pain was in the wrong area. I told the doctor it was likely diverticulitis and i needed an antibiotic. I am a nurse. The doctor refused to give me an antibiotic or any treatment. I went to another doctor who gave me an antibiotic and then re did the blood tests. He did the 3 month glucose test. Turns out i have no diabetes and my liver enzymes and c reactive protein were returning to normal. Next blood test they were normal. No gallstones causing problems and no diabetes

Any test result that does not make sense will be repeated by us, without extra cost. Controls, standards and excellent laboratory practise(s) are still followed here. I had really high triglycerides and my "DR" said take these meds, I said no I've been eating rib-eye steaks 4 nights a week i'll change my diet. He laughed and said good luck that won't do anything. 30 days later after changing my diet went back yep all good nothing was high he was confused. He was only my Dr for a short time.

I reminded her to always take a blood glucose (BG) reading to confirm the SG reading before taking any action--especially with insulin. --A diabetic in remission for over three years.

In my hospital, a recent one, the blood pressure measuring devices are failing, it's like a lottery: either you have one that is relatively calibrated either you have results over the top. As Jules Romain's Dr Knock said: "every healthy person is an unaware patient".

I had this happen to me a couple of months back. I went in with symptoms of sudden onset weakness. When they did the blood work initially, they diagnosed my cause as being low potassium. They also said my blood sugar was high (176), with low platelets and white blood cells. Thing is, I had just had a few bites of food before I went in. After another blood test or two at half hour or one hour intervals later, my blood sugar showed signs of dropping to and settling at normal levels. The other two issues I had to follow up on with a hematologist who repeated a blood test a month later and said all my numbers were normal. He said those numbers go down when you’re fighting an infection, which I had been doing at the time I went in. All those needle sticks really sucked though😔.

I had a blood test that said I might have hypothyroidism so I was asked if was taking a multivitamin and I said yes. They asked me to stop taking it and retested me a few weeks later and it was normal. The Biotin in the multivitamin can give a false reading apparently and I had never been tested for thyroid function before so we had nothing to compare it to.

Low thyroid results in a recent blood test. The doc said to stop taking biotin and will retest in a couple of weeks. I'm currently taking levothyroxine. The dose has been increased a few times over the years. It will be interesting to find out if stopping the biotin will make a difference.

Also the gauge of the needle or a difficult stick can affect some blood tests such as hemoglobin and hematocrit because of damaged blood cells.

I had a blood test that said I had fatty liver. I have a yearly checkup because I take mental health medication. I'm also on 5mgs Ramipril and was put on Atorvastatin because of my family history. I never had any signs of fatty liver so my Doctors asked me to come for another blood test and that showed I didn't have fatty liver.

See Susun Weed's comments on hrt. (Shes one of many, but a good place to start). Mother Nature lowers estrogen..which protects us from cancer and heart problems. Artificially bringing hormones into our bodies again.. ups breast and other cancer risk and endangers heart health. Christiane Northrup, M.D has articles as well. I'm in peri and thus far have survived with motherwort tincture and a few other things. Just some ideas, we all have to find what suits us❤ Is it bio-identical hormones?

Being stuck when tourniquet is too tight or by someone inexperienced who leaves it on too long is another reason your tests may be wrong. In my case wbc's pooled around the puncture site and the count was so elevated I was sent to a hemotologist, who apologized because he was still required to follow up every 3 months for a year!

My niece had her first baby this year and the baby had 2 inconclusive tests for PKU. She finally went to a different lab and the test was normal. She asked the women who were in her prenatal education class if any of their babies had inconclusive tests. The answer was yes....at least 2 other babies had same results. Since I'm a retired medical provider I get called by my family to get my insight. I had mentioned that it could be lab error, error in collecting the blood from the heel stick, etc. Also told my niece to actually get a copy of the6 test results and read it carefully. Sure enough....the first lab tests had comments on them of the poor quality of collection of blood on one of not enough blood, and the other too much blood. It's horrible the lab didn't inform her that it was the labs fault for poor collection techniques and led her to think her baby had this horrible condition. I recommended she call the lab manager and report this incident. I don't know if she did. The other babies in her group also went to other labs and were fine.

Hiya Dr Dhand. My iron level is very high. A couple of days before, I drank 2.5 cups of fresh beet juice that made me very nauseous/fatigued. My PCP referred me to get a colonoscopy in June 2024. There’s no history of hemochromatosis in my family but I have two family members who died of cancer due to diet/lifestyle. My genetic testing for cancer is negative. I wonder if the beet juice affected my iron levels. I donated blood to decrease my iron. However, I’m under oxidative stress and my organs are being damaged from iron toxicity. My PCP wants to check my iron levels in a month while I’m rusting inside. What else can I do and are there other blood tests that can detect cancer? Please help 😢

Im never fasting when getting a cbc because they are usually surprise and random. They always come back beautiful. I figure we don't walk around in a fasting state anyway. But if I get a bad one I will fast and redo.

I'd like to hear more about how kidney problems can affect BNP levels. I had a BNP level of 1700 and heart failure was suspected yet an echocardiogram did not reveal heart failure. I have one kidney which is spilling protein with a Gfr of 45. What's going on?

Also in U.K they are not testing for Vit D levels unless the Dr thinks its needed...even if you have been treated for it previously...

My Husband and I have both had to pay for this to be done privately. His NHS GP did actually order one but the lab apparently refused to run it saying it "wasn't indicated". Why are NHS personnel so reluctant to test for vitamin D? I don't get it!

Is a PSA super-sensitive test any different from a regular PSA blood test? Also, what is a regular protocol for treating prostate cancer? I wish that you would make a couple of videos about PSA testing and treatments for prostate cancer.

My blood test was wrong concerning my kidney function. The doctor misread it and when she checked it I told her it was wrong Just can be a lot of stress for what I went through. B.S.

Yes, saw one Dr, had blood tests done, he said I needed to take a statin. I went to another Dr, had blood tests done, nothing wrong with my results. In future I will get a 2nd opinion/test if something sounds off.

I went to a well known blood lab. I had blood test scripts from two different doctors. They drew the blood for each doctor in several vials, and I got the results back. I did not realize the each doctor had ordered a bunch of the exact same tests. Most of the results were the same, as the blood was all drawn out through the same needle one after the other. However one test differed by 10%, and another by 5%. A 10% difference can be quite significant in your diagnosis.

Three weeks ago I had a blood test for my cholesterol here in Melbourne, Australia. I fasted and it was 7.7 or in the States it would be 297. My previous test was 5.3 or 218 a year ago. I know I have increased my meat intake a lot the last 6 months but I didn't think it would increase that much. I did exercise before getting my blood test which might have been a factor since I generally follow a low carb diet so more fats might have been circulating in my blood. Doctor was talking about statins which I wouldn't take. Anyway this week I go to a pharmacy where I paid to have my cholesterol taken and it was 6.5. Be interesting what the next reading will be.

I’m 56 and just had a full blood count test done last month,everything came back good except this reoccurring h-pylori infection ! I had it 2 years ago and got rid of it with 2 different types of antibiotics but it’s back but my doctor said it’s not as extensive as the last infection and if I don’t have any gastric problems I shouldn’t worry about it ? I don’t particularly want this bacteria in my stomach lining because I’m told if it’s left untreated it can cause serious stomach issues. I’m seeing my doctor again in about 4 weeks time and I’m just going to tell him I don’t want to live with this infection in my stomach.

I have been so sick and have gotten labeled by the ER as a drug seeker because I'm on legal pain management, a wrong diagnosis from the ER that almost killed me and treated horribly by the doctors and nurses that I would literally rather die at home than go to the Emergency Room. I straight up refuse to go to the ER no matter what the condition or how much pain I am in.
