I have an interesting mix to this. Started playing by myself for a week (got my Type-6 and Cobra III). Then friends got me into a Wing and outfit, got boosted to Python (named Passchendale after the battle) I found out after a while that it didn’t suit me so I sold it, did missions to help the outfit - missions that also got me my Kraft II (named Vimy Ridge after the battle). Then we did another run of bounty missions, got enough to get a stock Anaconda, then all the times I grinded or did missions with friends or solo, I’d invest into upgrading my beloved Atago - named after a Heavy Cruiser from WWII. Still working on engineering Atago to my preference in addition to upgrading my Clipper “Artoria Pendragon” after King Arthur’s latinised name, for trade. Chieftain named “Myōkō” after a WWII Light Cruiser, for a light, agile, and relatively cheap combat ship. I guess I am the best mix of both. Got enough charity yet is invested enough to keep going for new ships the grind for them. Planning on getting a Cutter one day since I trade very heavily for my credits.

An ok origin story. About a year ago my good friend was telling me about this game called elite dangerous, he told me the story of how he finally got a ship by the name of Anaconda, how expensive it was and how long it took him to get it. He told me all of his bounty hunting stories and player interactions. I thought it was a really cool game but I didn’t have a PC or the money to get one at the time, so I settled for his stories. Time flies and I got a PC, at this point I forgot all about elite until one fateful night I was looking at steam sales and saw elite dangerous was 75% off, so I thought what the hell and bought it. As soon as I started playing it I felt completely without control. The flight was so weird to get used to with it’s complicated controls and all of the systems went way over my head, my first few hours were just trying to get proficient with the controls. My friend was super hyped when I told him I got the game, he sent me his coordinates and said as soon as I got there we were gonna bounty hunt, which sounded pretty badass to me. Im done with the tutorial and arrived at one of the starter stations in OpenPlay. With 1000cc and my sidewinder. The place I was gonna meet my friend was 20+ jumps away and I realized I wouldn’t have enough money to make the trip, I found a courier job that went for 30k and to me that was an absolutely insane amount of money, I’d have enough to travel and some to spare. As I was about 10 jumps in I landed in an anarchy station to refuel. At this point it took be a decent time to get here, about two hours as I was doing other things on the way here and looking at a bunch of stuff. When I jumped in, moments later I was interdicted. Some players decided to gang up and kill me... I tried my best to run but it only slightly prolonged my death.. and not by much. When I re buyed.. I was 25 jumps away again... I was super bummed over losing all my progress and ending up even farther away.. at this point I let my friend know I was done for the day and logged off. The next day came around and my friend told me all about asshole cmdrs, he invited me to his private session and I started again fresh. It was a long and arduous journey but I finally made it to Upanklis, the first place I called home. During the journey I made some cash doing more courier work and bought myself a hauler, with its better jump distance and larger fuel tank it made my travel to Upanklis a lot easier, it also marked my start as a trader. When I made it to Upanklis all I did were cargo missions in my hauler, I was amazed at the amount of cash that I made 60k and even 100k if I got lucky. I felt absolutely rich. Then I stumbled upon the most cash I’ve seen for a single mission. Bring 70 gold to a location for 700k. I was amazed, it took me three round trips with my hauler but it was well worth it for me. It was then I reached my first million. With the money I bought myself a type 6 and further solidified my position as a trader. I did more mission averaging around 100k to 300k. I put my previous setback behind me and started having fun familiarizing myself with the stations, the names and which ones had the best mission or which ones weren’t worth it due to the station being 300k ls away. My friend logged on to check on me, he was happy I made it to his system and was enjoying the game. I told him to guess how much I had. Since I was only a few hours in and knew absolutely nothing about the game he said “I guess like 300 or 500k?” I told him I had 2 million. He was legitimately proud of me and his surprise made my day. I finished up my mission and met up with him at a station in Upanklis. He and his brother got in their enormous ships (python and an anaconda, I didnt know at the time) and we’re gonna take me to a Hazres to get my sea legs wet. I bought a cobra mkIII and D/C ranked it. This was my first combat ship, thus far I’ve only done trading and had no experience with it. We winged up and supercruised into the site, to me it was incredibly disorienting. I couldn’t tell where my friends or where the enemies were (at the time I didn’t know how the hud worked) and when my friends were calling out enemy ship names I had no clue what they were talking about, I only tried my best not to get lost and stay and close as possible to the big ship (my friends anaconda) by the end of it I somehow walked out with 1.6 million in bounties due to their efforts. I was excited that I almost doubled my profits in so little time in such a fun (and terrifying) way. I used the money to upgrade my type 6 and when they logged off I continued my journey as a trader. I’m going to leave the story off right here for now haha, that really stretched for a while. I’ll edit more in later on how everything I did snowballed and how I surpassed my friends who were playing the game for years in a few days.

I remember when I first started playing Elite just after it launched on PC. I had been playing for almost a week when some players helped me out by dropping Gold for me. Well, there were a bunch of canisters of Gold floating near Dalton Gateway anyway. I spotted them and went for them as fast as I could because I was worried that the security ships might scan me (it was illegal salvage). As I was scooping the first canister my ship said "taking fire", "shields offline", I noticed 4 hollow red triangles, "taking damage", I tried to boost away, "eject, eject, eject". I lost the A rated Power Distributor that I had just bought before leaving the station. I figured out later that they had been sitting almost 3km out from the station with all their unnecessary systems shut off so they wouldn't show up on radar while waiting for someone to take the bait, then they railgunned me to hell. After that I roamed around doing missions until I found a steady source of "freelance employment officer", missions and an equally steady source of "motivated employees". (I'm pretty sure those were the euphemisms those missions used, they were removed from the game ages ago). After that I ran Onionhead for a very long time, I still do every so often. The next time I found "free", cargo floating in front of a station I was in a T6 built as a blockade runner. I snagged half the cans and retreated inside the station before the waiting player killers could drop my shields :P

SirKaldar do you know how to shut stuff down to not appear on the radar? Never heard of that before!! I may need to do some testing now lol
@SirKaldar4 жыл бұрын
@@BluesRCadventures I can't remember the % of heat you need. But if you can get your ship running below that, either by turning off modules or with efficient modifications. You can make your ship not show up on other players radar at distance and appear as a blip like a piece of cargo at shorter range. NPC Diamondbacks (both Scouts and Explorers), often run cold enough for this to happen, so you can play around and get an idea of what are able to see when a ship is running cold. If your temperature goes up, or if you fire your weapons, or if you are hit with a weapon with an emmisive munitions mod, or if you get very close (iirc within 400m). Then your ship will show up on radar as normal. You can still be seen visually, running cold doesn't make you invisible and thruster trails are a dead giveaway that a ship is there, so using FA off and only occasionally pulsing your engines to move is a good idea if you want to hide. You can also been seen in night vision mode, although you will appear darker if your temp is lower and night vision only works out to a specific range. This is true of NPCs as well if you are trying to smuggle or whatever. You can run cool, drop a heatsink, or use silent running to hide from their radar, but they can still see you if you're in front of them.

Now, since I started 3 years ago, I've built a battleship from a Vette, the gf got herself a FGS, and the friend didn't make the cut (shame). I'm a long time Warframe veteran, recently dabbling with elite, and I know exactly what you were talking about. I introduced a few friends to warframe and carried them through missions and got them powerful gear that I had to struggle to get when I started. needless to say they didn't stick around for very long, and I learned my lesson. Advices, not handholding. just a few days earlier, I almost blew up my adder on its first mining trip by ramming into stations trying to dock. I got a fine by not realising the docking timer was a time limit, not a wack-ass queue time. I then panicked and thought I had to run because everything turned red and flashing, with a voice over coms warning me that I was trespassing, so I jumped into the next system I could find, and logged out. I thought it'd be silly to never come back due to a 200cr fine, so I looked up the wiki and it told me I needed to speak with the authority contact, which I never knew existed, on the station to pay off my fine. the mining trips I made with the adder was tense too. at the time I only had enough for 1 rebuy, and I didn't know how the npc spawning worked, so while I was mining, I kept an eye out for pirates, expecting one to swoop in, scan and blow me up before I could even leave the mass lock region, so when I made it back after an hour, with a relatively anemic 5m worth of ltd, I was elated. I'd noted that no pirates spawned for the hour I was there mining, so I was more confident in buying a brand spanking new asp explorer and loading it up with cargo space to set out on another expedition. of course, the first thing I did with the thing was slam into the station mail slot, taking a solid 50% off my hull. I was legitimately panicking since I wanted to keep more than 1 rebuy, as to calm my nerves while I traveled, so reorienting myself and crawling out that mail slot was legitimately important to me. I then spent the nest half an hour or so mining, when I asked myself whether there was an easier way to tell if a rock has diamonds in it or not, so I looked it up, online, and found out that prospector limpets exists. I didn't want to return to the station, however, since the asp exp was very heavy, and I was still not used to piloting it, so the less I moved the better. fortunately, a server maintenance successfully encouraged me to call it a day, and to my surprise, I'd made anoter whole 5m in that short trip! this meant I should have more than enough to grab a decent diamondback explorer, which I'd had my eye on ever since I scrolled through the ship list on the wiki. can't wait till next time to finally get in one and see what the galaxy have to offer. maybe I'll also make some good money on the way! and yes, I do now know how to properly land. still takes me a while tho

5:00 so i've not played the game for about a year (not because i really burned out, but because i was playing other games), logged back in yesterday, immediately managed to go broke by overspending on new weapons, died, and you know what? i took the 0cr bailout free ship and started working my way back up :P made about 150k in an hour or two by baiting AI pirates, flying them towards the cops and shooting them when their shields are down to get the bounty, that's pretty much nothing but felt real great. just being taxied along can be neat sometimes if you have a group of friends and want to farm something quick, sure, but make sure you keep playing the game instead of sitting by others doing it for you or you'll be bored real quick!

I have a friend who recently started Elite when Void Opals were the meta. Instead of giving away the cargo for her to sell it, I taught her how to mine Void Opals and where to sell for the most profit. I just sat there in my ship next to her's and told her what she needs to do next while I watched if she is doing it right. I thought it would be hard to train a newbie to the complicated mechanics of Void Opal mining but once you do, you start to realise people learn pretty fast if they have the interest in doing so. What she got was her first 50mil credits without my help. >Was it harder than just giving the cargo away? -Yes. >Wouldn't it be friendlier if I just gave the cargo instead? -No, because when you do that, you're basically removing the main challenge of the game for the other player and when there is no challenge there is no fun, that would certainly kill the interest of the player. When you spend your own valuable time in order to train an other player how to overcome these challenges, in long-term it's more valuable than just a few tonns of cargo, and that player will remember your help even when they become a veteran.

Some here I agree and some here I don't. I got almost 400h on elite, and most of it has been grinding for something. Slowly more cash, rank or some other thing. Whenever there was a "gold rush", I somehow managed to miss it. I was not playing at the time or something, and they were "fixed" before I got to it. So, when deep core mining came along, I was finally there on time and suddenly had more resources than ever before. I could outfit several ships and do something with them, instead of slowly grinding a task that stopped being fun a long time ago. "What we see as fun, they see as labor". If the game starts to feel like a second job, you really need to enjoy it to keep going. I've been playing EVE online for over a decade so I know what a video game becoming a second job feels like. Though, no regrets there. In elite, the challenge always seems to be less about skill, and more about enduring repetition and having patience. So, why do I play Elite if I hate it so much? Well, I don't, I have fun. But the grind is real, or at least it was. And most importantly, what else is there for the genre? No man sky is not really it, Star Citizen is still a hot mess. Maybe X series? So I keep coming back. I understand what you mean, and I somewhat agree. But I got a job in real life, so there is only so much boring tasks I'm willing to endure on a video game before getting to the good part.

What keeps me playing is the simulation and complexity of doing literally my own thing. I do highly recommend people listen to this man's advice. Without a purpose you will lose interest and if money is all you want in this game it will be short lived for you. However the many different things I can sit down and do with a busy RL schedule is very nice. I can get a bit of mining in when I get home from work and make some cheddar. On an off chance I have 4 hours to play around I can dog fight around and collect so scraps or run some missions. If I'm feeling like I'm just in the mood for cruising. I'll just hope around systems seeing how far I can make it out of the bubble. Don't sell yourself short and only go for credits. Play the game for all it's got to offer.

In my 50 hours of playtime I already experienced incredible things that no game has ever showed me: my first encounter with a white dwarf and successfully using it to boost by recalling some tutorial online; a system which offered high paying cargo delivery missions on loop between the same 3 stations, but were overrun by pirates, and the feeling after scoring the final big haul of 140 personal weapons to buy the asp explorer, I wouldn't have had it any other way.

2 days ago, I was in a type 6. I bought that type 6 using a hauler. I got lucky and found a route trading wine, oddly enough, that netted me 6000 per ton. Had the 6 for a week. Bought an explorer. One trip into the mine fields and I now have a python. My first mining run with the python, I log out. I log back in still in the fields. Pirate immediately scans and wants 15 LTD. Keeps telling me it will all be over if I just give LTD. I don't, I finally jump, then the next system, another pirate, and the first time I've ever failed an interdiction. I jumped away with only 40% health. I sold and bought a scout and set it up to fuelrat/explore..... And to land on condas while they are mining.

I feel weird seeing this. I hear all the time about how Elite Dangerous has a great and welcoming community to new players, yet when I first started at the beginning of November, I didn't get such a welcome. My first (and to date, ONLY) encounter with another player was horrible. I was flying a Hauler, having just left the safety of the starting zone, and got interdicted by a by a player in an Anaconda (Could have also been a python or Corvette, I couldn't tell). They typed o7 in chat and blew my ass out of the sky. His reason? "I was tired and felt aggressive, LoL." I'd love to meet some of these friendly players and not roam around alone in Solo and Private but...I don't know if it's worth the risk.

Alexander Frost I have reached out to players and NEVER had even one speak back to me. In game. Only on Reddit and in Xbox chat, but they’ve never played with me. LoL I built a ship to partner mine and never used it yet. I like that I have a lot to do, but the grinding for billions of credits (yes, even with void opal and painite) is painful. I just love srv’ing around planets and flying through canyons. Ultimately, it’s more a solo game and I will get a Fleet Carrier, take it 19,725 LY away from the bubble to a system I picked for my first long trip, park it and solo this game in the black. Maybe you’ll come across me out there someday and we can have a good planetary race! 😬

I've been playing for about 6 months now, and was brought in by two friends who already had decked out ASPx and Condas, I worked through courier missions earning 10,000-100,000cr per for a good couple weeks before I moved on to passenger missions, slowly climbing my way up, reseaarching and buying ships I liked until I could afford to kit out a DBX. Only then did I get a chance to meet up with them, do a little exploration, they taught me how to use the SRV and scanners and stuff but never gave me anything, I wasn't even aware we could do missions together. now I've done some Painite mining and quickly moved up to a Python then Anaconda, and I totally see what you mean about building a relationship and earning things yourself. Even though I worked for the Conda it happened so quickly compared to the week or so I spent eyeing up the Python, I just have no sentimental connection to the Conda whereas the Python feels like my pride and joy. And I still have a deep love for my DBX and the exploration I do in it.

You really have given me a new perspective on this matter. I used to want to help new players with trade missions because using the in-game economy filter can be a challenge. I've played hundreds of hours at Luyten 674-15 transporting metals or high tech from Gendalla and the nearby Ross ### system. Earned enough to C-rate a Type 10 Defender. Lost it to an NPC pirate without rebuy. I still love the Type-10. I'm going to buy it again and outfit it with as many weapons as I can and continue to haul gold. It's what I like to do.

Im sure u have heard the double painite mining can bring 100-150 m credit per hour. But your comment is not about that. Its about u can do things in your way in this game, what u enjoy, what gives you satisfaction is your playstyle. U dont have to do things as most ppl do.

Of course. I have used the void opal mining and painite mining to earn quick cash. I think if that's all there was too it, this game would be hella boring. Thankfully there is so much more to explore than money.

I bought elite dangerous a few years ago and worked my way up to about 10M credits doing trade and data missions. Having picked it back up recently the ease with the super cruise assist has definitely made it easier for people to just pick it up and put down for a while knowing you don’t have to do a full training to get back into it. The road to riches is another great thing I never knew about so I look forward now to mining solo and working up to elite rank. The additions mean I can play other games and know I can come back to this and bang on a super cruise assist and enjoy the game without the tedious retraining I hated doing.
@AkashWShah4 жыл бұрын
I have to agree with a lot of the points in this video. Elite is a very slow-burn game and a lot of its enjoyment comes from the journey rather than the destination. That's what makes each upgrade or new ship or new planet you discover feel meaningful and worth it. The enjoyment comes from seeing how far you've come and seeing how much better you've become and how you have a deeper understanding of the game.

When I first got into Elite, my friend gave me a couple days to fiddle around, explore, get my bearings and whatnot, then dropped *just* enough painite and other materials to get me my first 10 mil, after scrounging up enough to invest about 1 mil into an Adder on my own. Issue is, he gave me the painite 150 LY from a system with a good sell price. So that was certainly an interesting field trip. He gave me some advice on how to outfit my ship, but then left me to blaze a trail on my own. Dear lord, the panic I felt when I got my first interdiction. But, I eventually made it, sold off the painite, and invested in my first Asp Explorer. At which point he buggered off again for a couple days. It wasn't until I had nearly doubled my money that he showed me how to start mining painite. Overall, I think his approach was a really good one. He helped give me a leg up in the game, but I honestly still believe his greatest investment was still advice, not credits. Still fairly fresh, still not to my first 100 mil, but I *want* that Python. I've almost got enough to invest in the hull now.

I should do that too. I tried helping my friend, I helped him for hours on end getting his ship outfitted for mining (it took so long, he can still barely fly out of a station without damage). And when he needed to shoot the mining charges on the Void Opal asteroid he gave up bc he couldn't manage to keep his ship pointed towards the asteroid while rotating with the asteroid to shoot his charges at the fissures. Sadly if I did it the way your friend did it he probably would've quit even earlier.

As you said, I wanted them to meet me half way, in the end I had to spoon feed them to keep them intrested which was starting to hurt my enjoyment of the game as now the enjoyable stuff I did before started to turn into the endless grind as I was building 4 medium/large ships on my own.

Void opals were enough to devalue everything for me. I was doing a mix of missions, trading, exploring... but that all went away with the opals. The money is so good that there isn't anything else worth doing. Then I all of the sudden I had 100's of mils, six good ships, and a feeling of "now what?"... I have two pythons so I don't have to change modules, but I've never flown a hauler. I can't find much value in all this because all I need to do is fill my mining python once and I can buy another medium ship. Then, it seems like all that is left is grinding engineering so I can have a more expensive rebuy when I try to pvp. Unless you are an ace pilot, all there is to do is get lost in the stars, or gain obscene wealth with opals. ...what am I missing? I want to like what I have more!

I've just started playing elite a couple of days ago, still zooming around in a cobra mkIII and learning things every time. For example that I'll never again fly to "Ham Port" in the aornum system, because it's something like 540,000Ls away from the drop in point and it'll take about half an hour to fly there. Playing mostly in solo, so I won't get ganked or trolled or anything like that and I have a lot of fun, currently trying to get my imperial rank up to buy an imperial courier, which I hope will be awesome. Also watching loads of videos on all kinds of topics about the game like combat, how to maneuver properly, what weapons are good for what stuff. I really, really enjoy this game. Way back when I used to play Freelancer, which I think was way too good for it's time, especially with what people built in mods and now I get to relive some of the old space hype. Beautiful video man. I know I won't take money from anyone, just tips and tricks. Best way to do it. Also loved the ark analogy you gave. Played that as well and can confirm the developments you described.

The struggle making meager credits out in the boonies WAY outside the bubble was wearing on me and to get that black box recovery mission was something else. Figured out fast why it was 2.2 million credits when I got sent out to Maia Blackhole to commence my search hahaha but after completing that mission I felt so damn good. That's the Elite Experience. I'm grinding my way to the top on my own, only help I've asked so far was one time the fuel rats. I've even lost money on a trade in the beginning because I wanted to clear the cargo and didn't know how to just delete it, so ended up selling it to a loss, but you know what? That's ok. Messing up, making mistakes, and playing sub-optimal isn't a bad thing because it's the road to get there. I remember the recent CG where the Type 9 was on discount, I had just enough money for it because it was discounted, I loved it how I listened to it on the news and then just made my way there to get one. I made some more money for modules and soon enough I was going around with 790 units of cargo space, no shields, and in such a big and heavy ship that really put me on my toes and because I was on my toes I am now able to flawless land on a station without scratching it. If I had someone just pilling up my account with money, that would deny all of those experiences and the growth that comes with them. This is a very good video to expose a real problem.

Personally the only help I had was through guides on the internet and video tutorials. When I first got into the game and checked out all the cool ships you could get I set my eyes upon the big three mainly the corvette. So thats what I set my goal too as I quickly looked over the internet for rank grind spots and fast money making methods you really quickly kill the joy of the game. I finally worked to my first billion at first I did void opal mining but then I switched to pianite mining it was way easier 10x more brain dead and time efficient. It was boring floating through planet rings launching prospector limpets trying to find an asteroid with just the right percentage of pianite to be worth my time. It quickly sets you into a mindset that doesnt make the game last long for anyone. After that I realised if I was going to get any of the big three it was going to be the anaconda and cutter for the obvious reason that they just had way more use than the corvette. Well bought my first anaconda and the only significant thing I did with it was transport missions at robigo to rank grind for the cutter not quick enough so I switched to data courier missions and abandoned my anaconda its still at robigo collecting dust. After finally getting my cutter which is a stupidy expensive ship to purchase and a rate about 1 billion credits I quickly turned it into a pianite mining vessel to save up more credits for my future corvette. Well I got mt corvette recently with the golconda federation rank boost and let me tell you from experience the game was a lot better before I knew what I was doing. My first 100 hours of the game were so much more fun and exciting as I toured around on cargo missions in my keelback only owning about 3 ships not really sure what you are doing and just trying to scramble to your first million credits. But now im burnt out and the game has lost its shine and became a time sink that im always trying to beat or make easy nothing about it sounds appealing anymore and I havent even touched a majority of the content it has to offer. A great tip I offer anybody is too take the game slowly and dont feel rushed, take the time to explore and figure things out dont try to speed your way to the top you'll spend hundreds of soul crushing hours only to feel dissatisfied

I've been playing ED for a number years and I think I did something that was both hindrance and blessing. I wanted to go in blind, and figure everything out for my own. I had played some similar games in the past like Freelancer and WC:P so how hard could it be?? 2 years past and I avoided all the guides and even the manual, and I decided to see what inara and eddb was all about, and then looked at some basic manuals. While I had figured out the basics of completing missions and of course simple navigation there was a wealth of things that were considered "beginner" knowledge that I lacked. Avoiding the loop of shame: I knew if I had throttle set about mid way I could avoid it, but that was about it. Power play = voodoo magic: That system is about as intuitive as programming a VCR in base 6. Engineers: I couldn't figure out why anyone would even want to use them.. Why even bother with all the nonsense when I could just save up credits for a a few weeks or months to buy the next ship?? Im probably one of the few commanders that's been playing for 4 years or so and doesn't own a python or the conda. ( I do have a krait though :) The star map: I knew how to plot a course but that was about it. Trying to use it to figure out trade routes with all the filters or learning the star types was massive epiphany. That's what got me into playing the game primarily as a cargo hauler. I shied away from combat as much as possible.. because when your earning potential is small, rebuys are a major threat. I learned how to dump cargo far better than how to fight. Elite Status: Nope. I'm getting really close in trade and travel but even after playing casually for years I'm still not welcome at Jameson. Currently I'm trying to wipe visiting the center of the Galaxy off my bucket list and I'm pretty sure that with all my scans or all my hops I'll get one or the other rank. First encounter with a Thargoid.. was only last year or so when I got pulled out of what I thought was just a loading screen.. I lost my keyboard to that one since I panicked and spilled a drink on it. Never tried to fight one or kill one though. Anyhow by many commander's standards I'd probably be a joke or failure of a player since I had so little awards or pitiful bank account that isn't measured in googleplexes... but I do have one major advantage. I'm nowhere near the ceiling. I'm not waiting for fleet carriers. I'm still learning and will be for quite some time. I'm STILL getting my money's worth out of the game.

Honestly regardless if you are trading, mining or even doing bounties there is probably a webpage out there with a better database to find a good location/route in then the Star Map. I do think it's sort of a joke how bad it is given that third party tools always pop up for these things. My first big money earner was rare trading. It would have been practically useless as a way to make money without third party sites containing databases of the relevant stations and outposts and the distance between the systems.

Its not our job to keep newbies engaged, its Frontier's job to give players a content sink, which there are none of in Elite Dangerous. I hate to bring up EVE because everyone goes "Hurr durr ED isn't EVE" But at the same time, EVE has infinite content sink for players to engage with because players have a sandbox element to engage with, while Elite Dangerous everything is simulated in the background, but none of that is directly related to the actions and desires of the playerbase. The game is a realistic simulation of the milky way galaxy, yet with less then 1% of the systems in the game actually visted and explored, the other 99.9% of the game is pretty much just a bunch of pretty orbs to look at. Give us tools to create content for ourselves, 10000 ly away from the bubble and players should be able to build their own cities, their own industries, their own player run stuff, let us build our own systems up how we want, not farm a bunch of spinning NPCs for 200 hours to flip a system from a communist government to a capitalist government which affects nothing to you as a player.

This is a great video. I just started playing and one my twitch viewers invited me to go on a quick bounty hunt with him in his 'conda. I went from 70,000 cr and a sidewinder with no upgrades to 3 mil and he helped me trick out a cobra. I think I narrowly avoided the 100 mil credit jackpot you mention here, but i'm glad I did. As a newb that was carried by a veteran player I watched this video and felt the need to share my story. So I’m a small streamer, no set schedule, no set length of streams. About a year ago, I picked the game up again after putting it down for two years. I got my friend back into the game and we were in our little sidewinders trying to get enough credits for the next ship, doing cargo missions that we could fit in our holds, minor assassinate missions, and courier missions. Just when I’m getting bored and getting ready to end my stream someone asks me a bunch of questions like what system we’re in, what platform we’re using, and all that sorta “this is kinda weird” questions. Eventually the viewer asks if we’d like to make money a bit faster, with the promise of 100mil credits in an hour, and I’m torn, because it’s obviously a veteran and they could just be looking to seal club us, but I invite him anyway and they immediately tell us that we can either join in a multi crew or get a type 6 because we’re going painite mining. Now, I didn’t know anything about multicrew, and while I wanted to earn credits fast, I didn’t want to be beholden to the veteran for doing all the work for us, so my friend and I decided to mine alongside him. I then learned about prospector limpets and surface scanners and we spent about five hours that night just mining, buying ships, upgrading them. Before the supply and demand update I spent about eight hours mining painite on my own, and once we figure out the supply and demand we’re gonna do a bunch more mining, get up to a couple billion credits to buy the carriers. We’re also planning a trip to colonia and Sagittarius A*. From my experience with this concept, I believe that teaching a new player how to work the system is better than working it for them, it teaches them how to get rich quick, while also giving them a moderate amount of value for the credits they carry. Granted not as much as if they truly did it themselves, but enough that they know 100mil credits is a lot of money, and that it’ll go fast, and also never to forget a rebuy. Started on ps4 with my friends during the current borahn diamond frenzy. My buddy pooped out 4 diamonds to me in my sidewinder and bought the diamond back explorer and went laser mining myself and worked up to the anaconda within a week. I quickly realized that I should be doing something else so I took my credits and a rated that conda for multi role and decided to hunt down the engineers till I was at the 5 rated frame shift drive. Now I used my left over credits and got the Krait mk2 just because I liked how it looked and started my journey to Colonia and I’m in love with exploring. The fact that I’m discovering new worlds no one has seen yet is fantastic and somewhat scary. Currently I’m 11,000 light years from the bubble and it’s been about 2 days since. I’m glad I decided to pick this up and stopped abusing the credit farming.

By burnout do you mean unlock and buy a cutter (my lovely cutter) within 2 days since starting with a sidewinder by grinding void opals ? I completely agree with you, but in an other sense, nobody was helping me, i've found my way to play and when i finally bought the cutter and reached 1 billion credits and get interested by the others aspects of the game (guardians, thargoïds, engineers, etc...), i felt reaching a milestone for the real beginning of my adventure in ED

The best way to help I think is to share some of your practical knowledge in the reddit and other sites, when I first came to it I wanted to mine and read the wikis and slowly worked up and eventually within 3 days of play I had my first Conda A ranked then sold it off to pursue other careers just to see how other things felt and now I enjoy my new career as a bounty Hunter with my friend.

i muddled through a little bit on my own when i started and got myself into a cobra which i was in for a very very long time lol, i didnt learn how to capitalize in being efficient until i started looking at how to videos on you tube from guys like yourself, i wouldnt want anybody actually doing the work for me, but im grateful for information regarding how to do it myself, when i got some decent modules into my cobra i did some road to riches, got a viper which i sold and then got a keelback to get into mining which i hated, i didnt know how to outfit the ship properly so was running it without a shield getting myself killed, i stuck with it until i could get a python then learn how to mine properly using the 3rd party tools to get me maximum credits which got me my anaconda, i then had my heart set on getting the other 2 of the big three and now over 2 years later i have 13 fully engineered ships in my fleet and over 800 million in the bank, i had a lot of you tube help but i still had to go and do the grind for it all, and i wouldnt have wanted it any other way

I've been playing since early 2016. Went from Sidey to Cobra to Hauler to Asp X to Python. Used the Python Han Solo style smuggling cargo out of Maia. Saved up and got my first Conda. Done tons of stuff since then with a fleet of 17 ships now. Double Elite with only 30% combat left to go for Triple. Its been a fun road and many more miles to go. I will help people get started and point them in the right direction, but I wont just give them the key to success. They need to get it themselves. CMDR Gun Star

As I was heading into my home station of Tanaka Terminal (LHS 2088) one day, I saw this little Hauler speeding out. I offered to be his wingman, and he's now my best gaming friend (but I'm getting ahead of myself). Initially, he'd always want me to help him out with bounty-hunting, which I had no problem with (My FDL LOVES to kill criminals), but when it came to wing missions, I'd always tell him that I'd do half of the cargo, and he had to do the other half. He used to complain about it, because his ship was smaller, but I didn't give in. Little by little, he earned better ships. He had a goal of getting a Beluga. We both worked real hard to help him earn enough. He finally got a Beluga....and within 10 minutes got blown up by a station he was trying to dock with, because one of his passengers was a wanted criminal. He actually said I HAD to help him get another one, and I flat out told him that I didn't HAVE to do anything. He was sad, but he ended up working for another one. Now, he's got a Cutter, and he's honestly at a higher level than I am. He taught me how to mine for Void Opals, and how to use all the new scanning stuff, after I came back from a break from playing for a while.

The way I got started was when I saw elite dangerous on game pass. My friend had been playing it for a while and invited me to multi-crew with him on some combat missions. Me and another friend manned his fighters for him. His general rule early on was that he'd help us get some money, but only if we held our own weight. We did maybe 2 or 3 missions and got a ~1mil credits. I got myself a Cobra Mk-3 and my other friend bought himself a Viper Mk-4. From that point on he cut us off of being in his fighters. We'd still run combat together, but we had to be in our own ships. I went on to buy a Dolphin and run passengers for my early game cash, while my friend bought a Type-6 and started trading. I eventually saved up enough for a Type-7, as did my friend, and we decided to start running wing cargo missions together for our money (we didn't know about trade routes at this point). We all saved up and got Type-9s. I, however, being the greedy capitalist that I am, decided to buy an extra cargo rack for mine. Unknown to me, unfortunately, I had just pushed it over the edge and could no longer rebuy my ship. I crashed on the planet that we were delivering to and gave everyone a good laugh, but then I realized that I had sold everything to buy that ship. I was back to square one in a sidewinder. So, I followed much the same route that I had again, but this was when I discovered cargo routes. I got most of my money from that once I saved up for a Type-7, and from there knew to be much more careful with my ships. I bought a new Type-9 and from there my profits bloomed higher and higher. Point is, you can help someone and not ruin their early game experience. I am ever so grateful looking back that he didn't just give me tens of millions of credits early game. Think about this whenever you think of helping someone early game. It's fine to help someone, but you need to ween them off quickly or they'll not know what to do with themselves. My current view point is that I'd be more than willing to help youour, but the best your getting out of me is one mission to get you out of a sidewinder, and after that you're on you're own. Just wanted to share my viewpoint on helping and my story of being helped.

I had this same fear after a did a run of void opal littering around the new player bubble. I was hail commanders to meet up for free cargo then had to explain how to scoop, what void opals were, how to sell, and when to reference inara and eddb. Overall it was a great feeling to spread some knowledge and credits to new players. But next time i think i'll go with platinum or LTD at the most. Dropping 1.6Mil on a sidewinder is pretty crazy. On the bright side when i went back for another round a few days later, I ran into one of my students passing on the info and the story of "a random guy gave me opals for holiday cheer". This community is pretty great.

This is very true man. Came back to the game since a year off from losing my conda without a rebuy, and had to relearn how to make money basically. Had a generous guy teach me how to fish and all of my aspirations came right back and now i’m in a faction war for his squadron. This wouldn’t be the case if I already didn’t play the game for a long time a year ago building that elite relationship.

Just reading the comments. Pretty cool stories of people starting out in Elite years ago. Such a cool and unique game to have this kind of following. I too remember starting out in my sidewinder scraping together enough cash to get the Combes mk3. I called her my money maker. Still own her. Or the day I landed on a planet drive off in my srv only to watch my ship take off and fly away. I was stressed dude. Like did someone just steal my ship? After searching google lol I recalled my ship and moved on. I remember thinking to myself - man I got this down PAT! I could make 100k per mission and making a million only took me like an hour! Life was good! Went on to the asp explorer from there and was so excited to get 35LY out of the ol gal. My baby. Funny tho. For shits and giggles I bought a keelback and outfitted her for mining. Fairly cheap ship. With a fighter bay for hired cover I can mine void opals in that bird at the tune of $40 million per run. Approx 1 hour. If I was to start Elite over again I know how I would make cash and it would be so easy compared to the old days. That being said I have 21 weeks of gameplay into Elite right now and own 37 fully A rated and G5 engineered ships. I could never have the time in my life to do it again. So I just picked myself up a sweet new corvette to pimp out as my new void opal mining ship that holds 2 times as much as my python. Ohhhh but I love that python for mining. At 192 tons of opals that’s over $300 million per run. Doing the math my corvette should fetch me $600 million per run. Just finished engineering her for mining. Yet to take her out. Can’t wait for space legs and new content / fleet carriers. I’ll load up my exploration ships, my mining ships and a couple combat ships and head out into the black. O7 commander Cyfus out.

I helped one from a sidewinder to a phyton in just minutes. I asked him to help out with a couple of runs. He said, just a moment I'll be there in a sec, just need to test in battle first. I'll never saw him again. No thanks, no nothing. This video nail why we should really think about who to help and how, and when.

I put in the work day 1 and got an Anaconda by myself after toiling for about 9 hours. Here these people are handing out money and helping new players? That’s such a good deal I cant even express how lucky they are. Every million I earned was though effort and smart decisions. I could have gotten an Anaconda much earlier but I knew I could not sustain that football field without a steady income. So before that I bought a Type 9 and a Python for other sources of income. Day 2 was spent insuring my ships by building my wealth and upgrading their defences. Day 3 I gathered material for FSD upgrades and unlocking as many engineers as possible. It’s work but you need to know how to turn 10 million into 100 million. Some people like in real life just spend everything without thought on how to earn it back. The Type 9 and Python has already repaid their investment and now I’m looking to get a Beluga with a good FSD range.

I agree with number 4 most of all! My first days flying my Sidewinder, figuring out how to dock, running data couring missions, the first time any NPC tried to interdict me, the first ship I ever bought, an Adder, seeing a Capital ship come out of frameshift for the first time(and screaming) then buying a Keelback, then finally buying my Asp Explorer which I took on the Road to riches, then when I felt guilty, felt that my explorer cred was not legitimate, I engineered my ship some and took it to Sag A*. Took a month. Then I popped over to Colonia, then back to Shinrarta. I also explored the Guardian Ruins somewhere in there and experimented with mining. It's not the destination for me, it's the journey.

I just recently got my friend into this game. First order of business was to get his ass out of the starting systems immediately, so I told him to run small courier missions while I grabbed like 2 LTD's. When I got back, I told him to buy a better FSD for that Sidewinder so he could leave the starter systems, then gave him the 2 LTD's. This immediately slapped him into a Cobra Mk3. It was time to teach him about security, bounty hunting, cargo missions, and mining. Over the next few days, I showed the guy the basics of every career the game had to offer. Once that Cobra was upgraded to a decent spot, I made him fit it for mining and we went and did mined at the LTD3 spot (prior to the nerf, though it was only laser mining; I'm old-school like that). We did that until he got himself an Asp Explorer, then we upgraded it and I showed him how to do void opal mining, cause it's the COOLEST form of mining, heh. That was like two months ago. Since then, he's taken the knowledge he's gained and went off to do his own thing without my guidance. He just finished grinding out Imperial ranks (he was quick to jump on the Imperial BASKING train after I showed him what their ships look like) so he could get the Cutter and he now knows how to get engineering mats pretty quickly. I think the key to this success was just not doing everything for him, but rather *alongside* him so he could learn how to do it himself. Aside from giving him those first 2 LTD's so he could skip the super-early-game BS, he did everything else himself. When he needs more credits, he just pulls out his mining clipper or cargo cutter and just goes and makes the credits. All I'm teaching him now is how to build effective combat ships, how to find places to fight, and how not to die when there's 4 ships shooting at you in conflict zones. Funny, it's like a boot camp where I make him do FA off in rings with the goal to avoid asteroids while going as fast as possible and he almost isn't dying from countless impacts now! He can fly through the mail slot and land with FA off too! They grow up so fast! I didn't have the privilege of someone teaching me any of this when I started waaay back when the game came out on Steam, but now it's in my power to get someone new to a place where they can do anything in the game, thereby allowing them to choose how they want to play it. At least, that's my thinking. Now, I'm just waiting for the day when he wants to learn how to hunt and kill Thargoids. What a glorious day it will be!
@koboldcrusader5 жыл бұрын
As a relative newbie, I almost feel into this trap, but luckily due to my own cowardice and logistics side working overtime, it took me a couple days to even get out of the starter bubble, and nearly a week to get to the system the rest of the squadron was waiting at to help give me a boost. In that time, I figured out on my own things like how buying a ship is just a fraction of the real cost to get an effective one, I was halfway taught how to deep core mine and figured out the rest myself, I looked on with wide-eyed wonder upon naturally encountering my first pulsar. I remember my first encounter with a pirate Commander, and despite losing 12 vopals, I walked away unharmed and with the thought of "Huh, what a nice guy for not destroying or completely robbing me." Hell, I even had no idea what Thargoids were until a few days ago when I dropped in on a tanker megaship just because I thought they were cool to just look at and be near and it turned out to be a acid-covered, steaming wreck I spent almost 20 minutes attempting to work out what had happened here from the logs I recovered until what I later learned was a Thargoid warped in, knocked out my ship, scanned me, then went on its way shooting the wreckage until my curiosity got the better of me and I got too close trying to establish a data link scan. Honestly, this game is still finding ways to amaze me at every turn, and I still have that sense of pride when I finally outfitted my first decent ship, the Viper Mk.III, fresh on my mind even though it was nearly a month ago, and I still feel that rush of adrenaline and excitement every time I detonate an asteroid, every time I narrowly win or escape a tense dogfight to defend my haul, every time I warp into a system I've never been to or encounter another Commander. And honestly, I don't think all of those things would have the same magic to them had I sold everything for a souped-up sidewinder with just a big fuel tank and FSD to get there quickly like had been suggested to me originally. Yeah, I did still get some help and a boost or two to help get me a semi-decent miner, but those tagalong runs have quickly turned into hours-long mining sessions between me and the same guy that taught me, just chilling out and chatting among the asteroids, then heading back with full hauls to keep outfitting whatever ships we wanted to take on our next adventure. So basically, this game's less of your classic type of game with a path or paths set out for you, it's one that I've learned you have to make your own path in, forging your own lore, story, adventure, and legacy among the stars, and I don't think I would have experienced that had I been simply handed a couple hundred million right off the bat without struggling to get it every step of the way, and loving every second of it like I have so far.

Thank you for your videos, finally got the anaconda and outfitted it for 50ly jump range. Took months of hard work (mining, trading, passenger missions and my favorite exploration) to get from the humble sidewinder to the anaconda and really appreciate it that much more. Now it's time for my favorite activity long term exploration. There is one very important thing to remember in the tortoise and the hare. The tortoise always wins, and slow and steady wins the race.

My own "I earned this" story is my Vulture. I did a lot of bounty hunting to be able to afford it, and it was my pride and joy at the time. I don't really have many memories of the earlier ships, which I think is something I really missed out on, but my Vulture was my first long-term ship. I still have it, too. I did a few days worth of planetary scan jobs and war stuff out at Quince with it to be able to afford my Python, which I also appreciate deeply and it's probably the ship I spent the longest time in before I recently started playing again and got my Anaconda. The key thing is that I did build up a lot of experience along the way; I learned how to fly (somewhat) effectively, I suffered the sting of getting greedy and losing millions worth of bounty vouchers because I didn't bug out when I should; and while I was responsible enough to never run in to losing everything because of a rebuy I couldn't afford, I did come soberingly close once. I also had one embarrassing death where my canopy blew out, I went to a station to get it repaired with 30 seconds of air left; went back out, got my canopy blown out again, and looked at the timer to see my emergency life support wasn't recharged during the repairs, so I died. Giving a new player a bunch of credits is all well and good, but if they never get the experience they need then... well, as you said, they'll have just been carried to the end, have not learned anything, and end up quitting because they already "beat the game" or because they flew without rebuy and got frustrated. Or just keep coming to you to get them more credits when they almost-inevitably fuck up and lose their ship. A better idea is to wing up in a ship just slightly above what they currently have, present them the various options they have, and let them decide what they want to do - then you help them do that. Protect them as a wingman, but never take the lead unless they are getting truly lost and frustrated and actually need serious course-correction - which means, allow them to make some mistakes.

These are my 2 cents I never ever had any opportunity or offer from someone to show me or help me as a beginner in this game. I had to do everything alone and discover the game for my self, often thinking about quitting the game for not knowing what to do. Now 800 hours later, I just bought my first Anaconda through 99% the time single playing. Also 99% all CMDR´s want to be alone, while the rest 1% are in clans or guilds. About money: I do mostly trading missions or by searching for the best buy/sell ratio, earning my money "hard" because it consumes time and is sometimes grindy. Well, not worth mentioning if not PVP pirates are waiting to kill you for fun, having no chance at all, even with Mark 7 Shields, because ED lets you make ridiculous powerful weapons. Restoring my cargo ship costs 20 Million. Money I had had to spent time on it. The consequence? I only play single player mode. Nice isn't it?

Whenever I play wing with new players I mostly stick to activities around their level and avoid giving them too much of a leg up in the game, lest they become spoiled and expect everything to be handed on a silver platter. Most of them turned out great, they explored the bubble (and beyond) organically and avoided getting burned out by keeping a modest progression pace and now have their own fleets of cutters and jumpacondas scattered around and outside the bubble. They found their own ways to make money, (but always return to Wing mining sessions) and the satisfaction with it encouraged and developed their critical thinking. They even surprise me on occasion by finding farming spots no one even talks about, like an NGALINN equivalent for the Federation (got their federation rank to rear admiral in 8 hours! From courier missions!). The last thing you want to do is for them to build a dependency on you, it narrows their view and experience of the game and their thought process. Some of them would have never realized or discovered activities that they LOVE repeating in the game like Operation: HOT MIST, Space truck haulin' bulk goods, Mining, Passenger cruise Role playing (yes its a thing) and Bounty hunting.

I'm a newer player. Almost 1 month in. I ask for help in the sense of knowledge. I want to know things. As for the money, I can't imagine doing nothing for it. That's shameful. I've enjoyed my first month mostly exploring. Once I dock up, I'll easily have 100 mil plus. The thought of not having a rebuy sickens me. I have a great group of squad mates that will help me do anything. But like I said, I make the money alone. Spending the month making my way toward the center of the galaxy has taught me tons about the game. The experience is something someone else can't give me. When I get back to the bubble, I'll learn how to mine a bit. These videos are all the help anyone needs. Maybe after that, combat. I'll take help with that for sure...but just the basics. Only way to truly learn combat is to screw up and lose ships. Thanks for the videos.

When I first started, I was helped out in both ways at the same time. One of the first things I was taught by those that got me into the game was how to manually-dock and how to do core mining, with said friends coming along on my first couple of ventures to help me understand what all to do. Afterwards I learned about the Borann spot from some new friends, but all I knew was how to core mine; they taught me lazer mining, stuck around enough to show me how much more profitable that could be. Later still, even more new friends taught me come combat stuff, and though I still roll with 'em now and then I am confident enough in my own ability to survive so long as I pick my fights well. Hell, some of the combat missions that bunch takes up just craps out grade 5 engie mats like they're having a wholesale. Nanomam really wants to kill the Tollan Hand Gang, and might just give you mats to go do just that. In short, I was taught by example. I had to learn how to do engineering and trade routes, myself, but that wasn't too bad to do, and I ended up getting Elite in trade with a week of getting the game. I think most that were helping me wanted to share the beauty of Jameson Memorial as soon as possible. They shared their wealth with me, but taught me how to get my own in the process. Right now, my next goals are getting the Corvette, getting to Colonia and Sag A, and getting Triple Elite.

I've been playing for about a month and I'm already in a conda. But I didn't touch mining. Didn't touch mining, and only took one little bit of "Help" Guy with a fleet carrier asked me to hop in and bring him a full cargo load of Tritium. I wanted to pad rebuys. Most of what I did was dangerous cargo hauls out in pleades. (Taygeta) I was able to build up a story for how my commander got to her position. And that made pulling into my home station with the Conda after "coming back from war" A little sweeter. Going from Sidewinder, to Cobra, and so on.

my friend who i got to buy elite, gave me just 8 low temp diamonds to help start me out, and taught me how to make a mining ship, and mine. This is eventually how i learned more in elite, and what i think people should do to help people that are new and don’t want to learn the game. just help them a bit with money and teach them how to get more. He wanted to save me from the early grind of spending days to build up a ship to mine low temp diamonds to get better ships, and more money. this is what the veteran players helping out new players should do, rather than grinding out to a of money, give them enough money to make good income and leave them there

I was in my little eagle when I found myself out of fuel. The fuel rats saved me and inspired me to grind for a Diamond back explorer. I delivered data for days to get the Dbx and it payed off. I then dropped everything on my ship to run trade and made my credits to one day get a Krait-mrk2 between that time I learned a lot by experience. A week later I earned my Krait and started grinding hardcore even though I earned my ship. The way I see it I have my dream boat but she doesn’t have all the bells and whistles just yet. Between grinding and avoiding folks I’m still looking for a place to call home. I love this game. It takes time and real effort that’s so rewarding.

I think I have something like 200 hours into the game. I admit to being a bit of a noob, but I feel l like I have most of the general skills locked down. I enjoy playing with one of my friends considerably more than on my own. He knows a lot more about the game and how it works. Thanks to him, I have been able to get out into the galaxy and do things more or less on my own. He still has to help me find void opal hotspots or other rare resource goodness, but I get down into those asteroid fields with him and mine my own. I am lucky enough that he has no need for cash, so he is willing to drop any void opals he is able to find for me. This has never made me feel like I was leeching, or in any way using him. To the day, my largest haul was roughly 40-45 units of void opals. I had already had a bunch of ships, the AspX I used to carry the goods is still my most common flyer. I have had Vipers, Eagles, the Dolphin, and plenty other low level stuff besides. But with the 80ish~ million I made from that "big" haul, I went and bought myself a Mamba because it looks cool as all hell. And I feel like I earned it with the help and aid of a good friend. I A-rated most of it, and now use it as a high speed cargo hauler for short little hops between my void opal mine and a system 2 jumps away where I can make 1.6 million per unit. I fluctuate in the low millions for credits only because I am constantly selling ships, buying new ones, and trying to find something I like more than my Mamba. Problem is, it all feels a little bland after the speedy little blockade runner I have turned the Mamba into.

"Hard times create strong men, Strong men create good times, Good times create weak men, Weak men create hard times." A timeless tale.

A false tale, designed to make boys who falsely believe themselves strong men feel superior to others. Good times brought us the people who drove the renaissance. Who developed the scientific method. Who flew to the moon and back. Weak people come and go regardless of the times. Strong people give us good times, and good times give us enlightened people, who give the strong a reason to fight to preserve a world worth living in.

I def have to share my story with this video. About 4 years ago i played elite dangerous for the first time and it was on console. I started at first with the slow grind and only made it to a hauler by trading back and forth. My goad was to be a bounty hunter, a pvp bounty hunter though. however i didnt really get far my first time because sadly my console got damaged. 2 years ago i was able to play the game again but this time on pc. I was ready to try again and stay on my same path. I was eager to make friends and start coming the bubble for pirates. I had an aggressive care bear mentality. Protect the weak and go after the baddies. This play through i was able to get to my hauler faster and eventually to a cobra within a few hours of play. However , i didnt know much about the game and didnt know about instances so it always felt like the game was dead . i still play it every now and day to this day but even now it still feels dead. I wasnt very skilled in combat at all and i hardly ever took my cobra out because i treasured it too much to loose it. So i topped off my fuel and just kept hauling until i had enough money to be able to buy my cobra back if anything happened. I thin i did one or two missions at the start of the game and after i was set loose i took off on my own adventure so the only ship i ever lost was the sidewinder and i mean that ship is free. so i guess you can say i never really learned that the rebuy would be cheaper than buying the whole ship, so i hauled materials until i could buy a new cobra just in case. Once i was able to fly my cobra comfortably thats... when i say i unfortunately ran into this problem. I finally had met my first real player (honestly in hindsight im pretty sure i was running into players but never noticed the difference between a solid square and an open square or what it meant), he was in a type 9... and i didnt know the type 9 was normally used as a transport I just saw a big expensive ship . He messaged me asking if i would want to make some money, tbh all i cared about was finally playing the game with someone . Well he pumped me full of credits with wing mission, this was before deep core mining so all he could do was pump me full of wing missions like some fat cow. He wanted to get me to an anaconda (i am an aesthetics type of player and i dont like anaconda... shoot me ). Well 3 hours later and i had a full 300mil, this was bad because he then told me okay get a dbx and get this and that and we are going her and thee and guardian this and that . i dont want to say it ruined everything for me and i would have been perfect with him teaching me about dbx and only the dbx travelling but... he wanted to help me to get a fully a ranked conda. we also picked up two other players while doing this... i havent seen them since a year ago shortly after they got their condas. I didnt get my conda, Something in real life pulled me away for a few months and im glad it did because i never got my conda and i never knew where to buy one. So when i logged back in i had still 480 mil and a type 9 i forgot about along with my cobra a dbx and thats about it. I still have my type 9 and dbx fine but i also wasted sooo many credits while experimenting here and there and tbh i never really got one step closer to my real goal. i still sucked at combat and i still was pretty much lost barely outside the bubble (aowicha). i bought a krait mk2 and since i didnt know shit i lost that thing more than a handful of times . You know what i really do treasure the most though?... my cobra. sure its not anything of a wow factor or anything but i really do enjoy that ship because i did do some small pve in it before i got blasted into the millionaire bracket of elite, And i also worked hard on that ship and still to this day i still fly in it the most. i dont play elite as much as id love to because i still havent completed my real goal, Im still not a pvp bounty hunter and im still not with a big giant group of friends coming the galaxy. However i do have a very dear friend to me and i chose not to make the same mistake i was put in and she loves her viper with only 2 mil creds she earned just from pve and regular mining laser runs. Honestly hope you guys enjoyed reading this story. i do really like elite and yeah a good chunk was ruined but im glad i didnt fully get sucked in because there are gaps that i still learn. this was a great video and im glad it was touched on .

Wow, I just came back to Elite Dangerous yesterday. I had never really known how to make good money, and when I upgraded to the vulture after bounty grinding I found it to be worse than my cobra. I promptly quit. However I just came back to try it in VR and fell in love, did some research on eddb and just spent 5 hours doing a slave run from Ehecatl before finding this video. Its so cool that you ran the same route.
