Hi I like what you said your strategy - I feel sitting on the floor makes sense to become more limber rather than just stretching all the time and feeling like I am not making much progress - or let up for a few weeks and feeling like i made no progress at all - I am as stiff as a board, I can't Asian squat , touch my toes, and having lost a lot of weight recently I think I lost a lot of muscle and my arm mobility is drastically reduced to the point of pain just reaching out to grab things - yet I think I look good even athletic which is just ridiculous - I really want to be flexible - do you have any good suggestions for me?

I am also a huge advocate of floor sitting for many reasons. I grew up in Japan where people often sit on the floor, and have practiced martial arts since I was a child. From my first hand experience as well as my experience as a movement coach, I know our bodies adapt to the demands. As people often say, "use it or lose it" Loss of mobility and flexibility is not just as a result of aging; it has a lot to do with how we move and use our body daily. So it's very much affected by our lifestyle. I believe the only reason why many Asian people can do a full squat and sit on the floor when they are older is because their body adapted to their lifestyle. As a matter of fact, I know many Caucasians martial artists who have no problem with squats and sitting on the floor because they have been practicing martial arts and their body has adapted to the demands. The point of sitting on the floor is that it will create more movement choices and more demands on all joints and tissues. So you will be moving a lot more than you normally would if you were sitting on a chair or couch. The benefit of sitting on the floor is not so much stretching muscles. If you're not used to sitting on the floor, I suggest you start sitting on 1-2 cushions on the floor so demands on your tissues are not too much. Happy Floor Sitting!!

Hi Cindy, yes, Doron is my esteemed colleague, and I recommend exploring all of his lessons on this channel, as well as participating in his live ATM classes on Zoom for what you describe. He offers many helpful resources!
