I Believe it was written in the ‘70s by Brent Chambers, I was in his Bible study group at Auckland University & we still manage to catch up occasionally 😊

My KZbin profile may say my full name but if it doesn't, the last few letters of my username (BeatsByBers) is Bers which is short for ChamBers... That was my nickname throughout my school years. Am now following in the musical footsteps and studying a bachelor of commercial music. Poppa writes songs all the time and every time were at theirs for Christmas, he pulls out a few new and oldies that he plays.

I prefer the version I knew from many moons ago. Slight deviations on verse melody I didn't really like. Also the last "let thy glo-o-ry" works better Only after the last verse otherwise there's nothing to build up to at the end.
