My son and I set off on a 9 day adventure that would take us from California, through New Mexico and deep into Texas where we explore Big Bend National Park and Padre Island National Seashore. Join us as we head off the beaten path, do a little camping in the mountains, desert and on the beach and cook up some great chow at camp.

0:47 That was our group at Padre Island! I owned the silver jeep to the right of the frame. Saw ya eating at a BBQ joint in San Antonio and didn't wanna bother ya! We were the big group that sat down just as you guys were heading out. I was the sunburned tomato! We couldn't believe it was you! Drive safe and be safe guys

The best times I ever had was my dad taking me out in his 69 Jeep Commando around the outskirts of El Centro in the late 70’s. I will always remember the great father and son time we had.

I'm from Texas and the lack of public land is one of my biggest complaints about the state. There is so much seemingly empty unused land too.
@cabiv545

Because Texas was a country when it joined the US, it kept its public land.
@RanchoTexano

Also the Spanish and later Mexico made massive land grants to bring settlers to Texas. Most of these were honored when Texas became a Republic and when it became a state. The rest belonged to Texas as the post above explains

" There is so much seemingly empty unused land too." It's private land. Owned by private citizens. That's like complaining about not allowing people to come traipse around your own backyard.
@hecticphusion
@hecticphusion 3 жыл бұрын
@@heavymetal9099 It's pretty dumb to argue that millions of miles of unimproved land are the same as your own backyard. Sure, people own it but unless they are all employing dozens of ranch hands to protect the land, it would be pretty easy to camp on the so-called "private" land.

Sad to see there was fire in Big Bend. The hiking trails in the Chisos mountains are beautiful. I took the ol’ XJ out there over Christmas. Black Gap is great, but I think the less-mentioned Old Ore Road was my highlight. I definitely recommend both.

Brad, was just watching this episode and today I got another crack on my windshield. Last year i found a neat trick to keep the crack from spreading. All you need is alcohol, clean cloth, Krazy glue and a razor blade. Works everytime for me. Clean the cracked area real good with alcohol, let it air dry. Then squeeze plenty of krazy glue all in the crack (make sure you get it in any minute crack). Let the glue air dry and scrape it off with blade. All done. Love your videos, thank you once again.

The in-laws live in Las Cruces and we go out there a couple of times a year. 2 years ago we rented a jeep and my mother inlaw suggested we drive out to Aden Crater/Kilborn Hole taking the trails. It was a great ride and as soon as we got back to Fl I bought my jeep. Love NM and would retire there if I could stand the dry weather.

We have a 1971 Jeepster Commando (profile pic) that we fully restored and finished back in 2015. We loved cruising it on the beach every chance we had and had some great times down there. There is a really cool Jeep club down there with some extremely friendly people too that is worth checking out.

I’ve heard the complaint about lack of public lands / Off roading trails / mountain biking trails from friends that have left California recently. Not that you can’t find trails in Texas, it’s that everything is farther away. (Spread out more) People don’t realize how good CA is until they leave for a while.

First of your videos that I have watched and I really like your style. I am a Texan, from up the coast past Galveston, and you described the state well. That looked like a fun trip, but you really racked up the miles. An outsider might not realize you drove over 1700 miles through Texas, which was easy on this end of the screen.... But, you had your son to visit with along the way, so well worth it. Ultimate respect to your son for serving our country. Subscribed.
