Enlightening, since I would have never considered fishing under those surf conditions. Goes to show ya why I'm a fan of your vids and advise.

All very good tips. I always find it interesting how close to shore that I find some big fish. A couple of weeks ago a fellow caught a 50" plus striper in that range.

Hey John, I live in South Jersey and love to fish. I catch flounder sometimes and bluefish, but I have never caught a Striper. I am not quite sure why. I have thrown lures in the surf, the bay, and wherever I can. I am knowledgeable in Freshwater Bass fishing and understand how they capture their food, and where they live. I tried using the same tactics for Striper Fishing but they have not seem to work thus far. I would like to say that I love your videos, and they are very informative. Watching you catch Stripers in the Surf is very neat, and it allows me to see that you really can catch Stripers close to shore and in many different conditions. You are very knowledgeable about Striper Fishing, and I just would like to inform you on how your videos have helped me understand fishing for Stripers in the Surf Much better, than I did before.bi am going to use the tactics that you have shown in your videos this fall, and I am confident that I can catch a few Stripers in the surf,because of your tips. So thank you.

John, you mention that you're fishing a 2oz bucktail on gsb 132 1m blank, which is I believe rated 4+. In many of your other videos you fish a 3/4oz jig on a 120 1l, rated 2-4. is it common for you to fish your rods below the weight range? how much ability to load the rod tip, if any, do you feel you lose throwing a 3/4oz bucktail with a rod rated 2-4? Thanks!
@efface62648 жыл бұрын
my rod is rated 2-5 and I can throw a 1oz pretty good not as good as a 2oz but a 1oz bucktail gets out there pretty good. it's not just the rod but also how good you are at casting

You have the best videos and a lot of practice. I'm looking to get an 11' surf rod paired with a penn spinfisher V 6500. Curious on what rods in that size are balanced with the reel.

Could you use your Van Staal 200 of it had heavier line on it from what I read I holds about the same amount of line as a 706z. Also do you think that the VS 200 would be good on a Lamiglas GSB 132 1M with 1 foot cut from the butt?
@JohnSkinnerFishing9 жыл бұрын
+Daniel C Surfcasting I'm pretty sure a GSB1321M with a foot off the butt is a 1201M. Personally I would prefer a 250 on a 10-footer, but many will say a 200 is fine. Line capacity isn't that important. It's reel size, weight, spool diameter...

John, how many yards of braid do you spooled on that 706? I've heard that reel doesn't take to braid well? I've got mono on mine but would love to switch over. Thanks!
@JohnSkinnerFishing9 жыл бұрын
The 706 is excellent with braid! One of the best, probably because of the excellent line roller. I spool 300 yards and back with mono to fill it out.

I read your book, Fishing the Bucktail (which was phenomenally insightful), and I have a question regarding fishing during that fall versus fishing in the spring. Would you opt for a more dense and/or stout bucktail in the spring with the primary bait being adult bunker? Whereas in the fall you would possibly opt for a longer, more sparse bucktail to mimic the sandeels that are present? Or would those decisions on the bulk of the bucktail be dependent on the conditions of each day and what the fish are responding to? Thanks!
