Hi Roger. I've only started fishing in Wellington, NZ, in October so I'm a complete greenhorn. Thanks to your excellent videos, in two months I've moved from initially catching Spotty which is fun BTW, to now regularly landing good-sized Kahawai (Aus salmon) and Moki. Trevally and Kingfish are next on my list. Your videos and very informative and more importantly inspire confidence. Excuse the pun, but I'm now hooked on this sport thanks to you.

Roger those fresh pipi's, or cockles as we call them down here in South Australia are killer baits for big King George Whiting or any whiting for that matter. I've eaten Skates before or Fiddler Rays as they are known and I eat the tail, it's shaped like a good sized flathead body. When the Blue Swimmer crab run is on the rays taste exactly like the Bluey's, it's a strange sensation eating a ray that tastes like a crab. Just shows how many they must be eating when the crab season is running. Great info in your clips champ always look forward to them

Mate, recent Sydney Sand Whiting fillet prices have been as high as $66/kg, so as well as having a great session out fishing, it keeps some extra cash in the pocket! The prices of other staples like Flathead have been high as well, so just more incentive to get out there and catch a feed.
@tinkertailor7385 Жыл бұрын
Like you, I've heard that Stingray flaps are better than shark, but just never bothered to prepare and eat them. I've eaten plenty of crumbed and battered shark fillet (Flake). It tastes a lot better than it smells when you are preparing it. Flake is for people who don't mind a firm, strong flavored fish. People can be funny when it comes to eating fish. Some don't like fish that tastes too "Fishy", while others find "Delicate" flavors to be too bland. Some don't like fish if it is too "Soft", they call it "Mushy", while others don't like fish that is too "Firm", they call it "Dry" or "Tough". :) There is one thing that can cause real problems with some fish and some people though. indigestion. Particular species of fish are oily and some people don't like those oily fish because the fish dinner "Repeats" on them. Components of some fatty oils are hard to digest. Affected people tend to burp a lot and get an aftertaste. I have a friend who doesn't like Cobia and Schoolie mackerel because of that. Doesn't mind the flavour. Just the after effects. His fish of choice is snapper and bream, basically doesn't eat or keep much else. I don't notice problems with oily fish myself. There's one particular deep sea fish called Oilfish, that will put you on the toilet after few pieces. The Wax esters in the oil are indigestible. Goes right through. It's supposed to taste very good and buttery, but the consequences are....... inhibiting. ;)

Hi Roger. Have recently just started beach fishing having mainly fished rivers and estuaries my entire life. Your channel has been a huge help. I've been having issues casting bigger sinkers often required for beach fishing. I was wondering if you have ever tried using a "casting trigger/casting canon" and if so what are your thoughts? Keep up the great work.

Just a reminder when retrieving a line and sinker with seaweed entangled. Especially at night, sometimes the seaweed drops off and the sinker and hook come flying back at you , watch out if it happens suddenly with a tight line pressure, a sinker or hook in the konk , face, eye, ear or mouth is a very unpleasant experience.
