Oh it's giving me a real 60's vibe man. I was 7 yrs old in 1970 and I remember the 60's. This grooves like music I listened to back then. We all listened to transistor radios with the square batteries esp in the summer back in the 60's grooving on music it was all we had and 13 channels on the tv.

so different from the past records. The first track was very psychedelic, gave me Broadcast vibes! Second track heard her sing in a cadence that she hasn't done much in the past. Third and fourth track were dark yet dreamy, like you don't know if you're going into a nightmare or a daydream. Overall a new direction with familiar sounds here and there!

Great mix of classic references to start this magnum opus off... beginning with an ode to Trish Keenan and moving into a tribute to Slowdive/Chapterhouse/Moose and then into some Klaatu/Lips/Ambrosia/ELO and then into some Stereolab/Laika/Broadcast to close it out... I'm sure this is a lovely listen if you are a kid, but if you've heard all the source material for this music going back to Genesis and Yes and moving through the Creation and 4AD years its an especially wonderful thing to behold... and the fact that its packaged in a box that looks like a Carpenters double LP is the icing on the cake!!

Pink funeral is a masterpiece. I’ve been reflecting on my first ever relationship (and breakup) and expressing myself through a lot of music (mainly beach house) and Pink Funeral hit it out of the park. Unpredictable, intense yet delicate, and amazing symbolism and production. The vocals are stunning and the violins just bring everything together. I haven’t cried in a long time, but lord did I come close. GREAT JOB BEACH HOUSE and I’m so excited for more.

Why I love chapter 1: Once twice melody: it sounds like magic. Like glitter, sparkles, stars. If this song were a drink, it’ll probably be champagne and when the synth comes in, you know that’s the moment when it gives you that warm and cozy kind of drunk feeling, that makes you feel relaxed and floating into space - a little bit drowsy - but still like yourself. Superstar: pure nostalgia and an instant classic. Also, that “backlit, up against the wall” line. Pink funeral: if this song were a woman, she’d be blessed with innocent, pure beauty but with some darkness to it. Through me: it’s a journey. It makes me feel like I’m in a sci-fi movie, travelling through space and time, exploring planets and glimpsing silhouettes of mysterious creatures.

You don't know how much I love this band. Whenever I listen to it I get this pretty feeling, it's as if their music offered me its hand and took me on a walk through beautiful places with starry skies to a beach on a winter day. These tracks are glorious. majesterial, epic, sad. The productions is as immersive as their other stuff but bigger. And different. As if they've assimilated and repurposed the history of various pop, disco genres production styles and effortlessly made it their own. At some points I'm reminded of Air (French duo on OTM), Petshop Boys (on Superstar) and a lot of popular music history. They use their musical influences with great depth. And always melodic beauty with moments of surprise as well as familiarity.The songs stirs up a feeling nostalgia that I can't put my finger on but but they aren't retrogressive and don't feel merely derivative. It also feels very cinematic. Can't explain why but just does. The opening strings on 'Pink Funeral' remind me of the high pitch strings from the music for the famous shower scene in Hitchock's Psycho.
