I was growing up in Huntington Beach CA. (the Original Surf City) when these Beach movies came out. Use to watch them multiple times at the old Surf Theater. Love the music and the simple story lines.

I've always marveled at the level of conditioning she must have possessed to dance with such intensity. I don't think she had on ounce of fat on her! Aerobics of the pre-jogging generation!

Candy would do a show each night in Palm Springs then drive to L.A. to be on a film set by 6a.m. She subsisted on donuts, coffee and soda to keep her energy level up. What we do for art!

Ohhwolfy, she did pass away on 10/10/12. She had been in treatment for brain cancer for some time and after all efforts by her doctors failed she went to a hospice in Corona to live out her final days. After her Hollywood career ended in '64 and her dancing career a few years later, she became a recluse and kept a very low profile.

I was an avid dancer in high school , and always wanted to dance with Candy , watched the movies just to watch her dance...

You too,!! I went to all the dance places back then and I even tried a little Go-Go dancing and of course I used a lot of steps that Candy used. Now in my golden years I am suffering from extreme osteoporosis and I've had about six bones break in my back but what is surprising to the doctors is that I don't need to get around with a wheelchair or a cane or anything because my legs are in good shape yep even at 74 and that's because of all the dancing I did when I was young and even now sometimes I'll dance around the room as best I can and my birds look at me like I'm a little crazy but I don't care. I have to believe that watching candy when I was growing up and trying to do her steps help strengthen my legs for my old goalie years

Yeaaah.....OK, too bad. I still had hope because since she left show business nearly 50 years ago no one had heard much - if anything - about Candy, let alone her death. If that's the way she wanted it, so be it. She no doubt deserved her privacy. You seem to know many details on her passing. Thanks for verifying that it's true. RIP Candy, you certainly made ME smile lots of times!

Candice Johnson is the subject of the song- "I want Candy" -by various artists covers, including Bow wow wow.
@BalBurgh3 жыл бұрын
There’s no evidence of that. When the Bow Wow Wow song was released in 1982, it featured a female singer singing about a boy. It’s totally ok if you think of this as a theme song for Ms. Johnson, however, because she *is* pretty awesome!
@neilg2640 Жыл бұрын
@@BalBurghThe original song was from 1965 by The Strangeloves. Bow Wow Wow was a cover. The writers did attribute the song to Candy Johnson after seeing her dance at the 1964 World's Fair in NYC.

I believe "our" Candy Johnson is still with us. Wikipedia says yes, she passed away. But the Wikipedia site is easily edited and manipulated. Doing a lot of research (Google & news search engines) I found no evidence that Candy passed away. I did find out that another Candy Johnson - a former staff sargeant - passed away this past October. I think the two were confused.
