Aloha, Slack Tide Nation. Ole Slack Tide is down in Siesta Key enjoying the gin clear water of the Gulf of Mexico. During our visit, the wife and I biked down to Turtle Beach to try our hand at some surf fishing. When we arrived, we found the beach shut down, and a construction crew hard at work.
Evidently, when Hurricane Ian came ashore in September of 2022, the tidal surge decimated the beach at Turtle Beach and stripped away much of the beach sand. It amazes me how crazy water is. Just a few short miles northward, the beaches are pristine.
Anyway, the local government is hard at work rebuilding the beach -- and this is no easy undertaking. Thousands of tons of beach sand has to be trucked in load after load, spread out onto the beach, and packed in place using a bulldozer.
Enjoy the video, and I hope you find your own slack tide to enjoy somewhere.
