On why the vendor uses scissors. During the olden days when they were still street vendors and Singapore was still part of Malaya. Gangsters roam the streets and fights are very common. So to prevent gangsters from snatching their cleaver during fights, they use scissors instead as a more safety measures.

I've not eaten from this stall for like ages after I stopped working in that area. And unless the recipe's changed, Mark ordered wrongly. The correct combo for this particular stall must have are pork chop, pork belly, cabbage and a fried egg. The chicken wing is optional as I personally find it just too much trouble for this dish.

+ExploreList Not really, there's one at Maxwell market, quite good, the rest are just normal, you just have to go this 1 :)
@smutpow8 жыл бұрын
+ExploreList There's actually at least 2 iconic Haianese curry rice stalls. First like joe mentioned, is at Maxwell market and the other is at Tiong Bahru near the Tiong Bahru Market. Compared to ordinary mixed rice stalls, they both charge hell of a lot for their food and most of the time have a long queue. I'd rate the ordinary rice stalls as food for survival and the 2 Hainanese curry rice stalls as comfort food.
@jkmy878 жыл бұрын
+ExploreList I'll second the curry rice next to Tiong Bahru market. It's on my last meal list for sure. Again, order the pork belly, pork chop, fried egg and stewed cabbage. I usually add a squid in there for good measure
