Great debate and both camps are 'right'... hey, soft-bead guy here, and lately for kicks I've tried Berkley power eggs in place of a soft bead (pink) and works the same, so not just for steelhead, you can downsize this exact strategy for all kinds of trout. With the power eggs, as a bonus, as they come out of the jar connected in a string, you can rig up two or three and not worry about them sliding separately...

Thank you for the last part, I needed to hear that for fly bobber fishing, I noticed this myself today but you confirmed it 100% and finally I see the answer, I need to reel first and point towards the bobber before setting the hook, got it...I missed probably like 10 big fish at the minimum today on the river with a stonefly nymph, got two, but meh, so many bobber downs...where I even saw the size of the fish on the strike. What I was doing lol, was pulling up on the strikes, and indeed, it was just ruining the line of sight, so I was frustrated...so instead, reel down to tension in order to set yourself up for a successful set, rather than one that simply pull the bait away or out of the mouth of the fish.

Just grab a little round pack of the assorted sizes you’ll end up using them all for salmon and steelhead. I taper 3 or 4 different sizes down to the middle of my leader. From the top by your weight go size 7 size 5 size 4 and a couple small BB size at the bottom. About 12” from your bead. Look up split shot shot pattern 🎣

Love the small bead below the bead stop idea , guaranties that the big bead is not sliding down to the hook … in a pinch a knot works fairly good not as … making sure the bead is pegged is really important .. don’t want it sliding down to the hook blocking it from hooking the fish …. These Addicted guys are frikin great ( the entire group) , don’t know if most people know it .. but much of the info these guys give us are guide secrets that many guide hold onto for themselves and surely aren’t shared with the general public … but the Addicts ..they get it , the more people that are catching fish when they go , the more fun they have , the more fish Addicts it makes …. Caught my first nice chrome Steele on a big 20 mm BnR soft bead and he hammered that big ol bead … keep fishing it till you get used to the feel and bite , takes practice .. but I’m drift fishing not bobber dogging … Thanks man great info

How far is the float from the first big wait..?then you tied the leader...
@brian-lau
@brian-lau 4 жыл бұрын
can you explain or clarify if the bead is going to drift "ahead" of the float? In my limited experience, I had a hard time getting the bead to move faster than the float, usually, they will go in parallel or the bead will fall behind as currents are usually slower in the bottom. Also, can you let us know when will you change things up? Like after 10 casts in the run? Do you re-rig another bead to fish in the same spot(assuming fishes are spooked)?

Use a bait caster and trot the float with your thumb or get a centerpin. Floats with a spinning reel isn’t really effective.
@CottagebumHeavyHauler
@CottagebumHeavyHauler 4 жыл бұрын
Spinning reels aren't all that tough to get good floats with. Before I got my center pin, I'd hold the fore grip of the rod, and use my pinkie finger to feather the spool with the bail open. Took a bit of practice, but after a day or two on the river it becomes second nature. Just make sure you can quickly trip the bail when your float drops. Tight lines!
@brian-lau
@brian-lau 4 жыл бұрын
@@CottagebumHeavyHauler I was wondering how cna you achieve a natural drift where the bead will be traveling ahead of the float and ideally pulling the float. The problem I have is that the float often runs ahead of the bead so its slacking and not creating a good presentation.
@CottagebumHeavyHauler
@CottagebumHeavyHauler 4 жыл бұрын
@@brian-lau through a combination of "mending" your line and "checking" your float, you should be able to achieve the bait/bead first float. Google the terms to get a better definition than I can provide...

To tie the bead stop hook you want to slide the glass stop onto the leader then bring the tag end threw the other side then proceed to wrap your hook threw the circle ⭕️ that you made threading threw the stop about four times keeping it between the lines twist you have now created simply keep it two inches above the hook

In a different video, Jordan says that using a leader that long is essentially flossing. I had never even heard of it before I saw Jordan's video. Now I'm stressed about someone thinking I'm flossing. Or snagging. Jordan seem pretty serious about the whole thing so what's the deal? Do I need to be careful with this?
