Full marks for you and Chris to keep going and keeping cool heads. Fortunately Chris does know dirt and how to work it, good problem solving on your end. I have to admit I wasn't laughing as I usually do, but I was riveted to the screen. Great video, Geoff. I think if Chris digs out the pit of despair and puts back some good clay your water problems may be over. Water getting in the trash like a sponge. Good luck and I am enjoying the class on the concrete walls. Nice 👍
@ohnonomorenames8 ай бұрын
My guess is that the pit is surrounded by relatively impermeable clay so once water gets in it has nowhere to go. There probably isn't a huge inflow but over time that pit filled up with water and every time you lower the outlet point you release more water from it. Once its empty and filled with clay there probably wont be any more issues. That said the gravel around the pool will have the same effect so the pump will be needed to remove that water. Make sure that you provide a clear part between all the gravel for the water to make it to your new sump.

He's got those walls tapered back pretty good, but don't ever fully trust them when it's wet. Pay attention to cracks developing up top. People get killed all the time by those big chunks falling in unexpectedly. Used to do some underground fuel tanks and a competitor company lost a couple guys that were in a hole tying dead man anchors when a slab fell in and pushed the tanks over pinning them between the tanks.

That water was just pouring in like I’ve never seen. I was happy to see Chris doing a temporary plug to stem it a bit but as you know….water seeks its own level and soon enough that plug won’t be enough (hydronic pressure and everything). Thought you might want to look into bentonite as a supplement to the clay being added (just in case packing the lifts is questionable/concern).

Keep going Geoff. Sensed your anticipation with the leak, there will always be challenges, one step at a time and all will be good 👍. Great video😃
@justinfufun54838 ай бұрын
Tough call as to which way to go about that leak. Opening it up from the pool side is a can of worms because we already know its leaking in. Digging the middle out to fill the porous area looks tempting because you still have some untouched ground to hold back the flow but could result in a collapse. Obviously the route Chris took was the pragmatic choice but he struggled to get it to cake up. It was an entertaining if frustrating episode to watch. Well done. Look forward to seeing it tomorrow or whenever.

When you described what you were thinking a few videos ago, I was picturing you digging a core trench like you do for the base of a damn ( the pool hole being the back side of your new damn) core down a few feet from that wall and pump out the water and build a clay core up to the grade height. I have faith in Chris sorting it out though.
@BealyGood8 ай бұрын
Ultimately, that is what will happen. But Chris didn’t want to mess with it anymore until we are done with the pool.

Well Geoff it is big hole to fill. Just wondering if you have been thinking how to fill it. Fresh water stations, tankers or hydrants. 55,000 gallons could be as little as 9, to up to 30 truckloads (depending on tank size) and distance to a potable water source.
