I've heard of a similar theory to the mental illness of Alice concerning Chris from "Winnie the Pooh". The theory states that Chris is also mentally ill but to such severe extent that his animal and toy friends are actually personifications of his mental conditions all brought into life by his unstable mind. And if we are talking about ruinning childhood (at least mine was), how about the one theory about the poor girl, the main character of Disney's Cinderella? The severe abuse by her step mother led this girl into escaping reality into the world of fantasy, small animal friends and a fairy god-mother, in which she even finds the love of her life and finally leaves the abusive home, when in reallity none of that is real. A stright way to destroy a girls dream about finding her own Prince Charming.

The horror game "Alice" has very little connection to Disney's or Carroll 's works. American McGee used the setting quite well, but as I mentioned in another comment, the disorders referenced did not exist in the times of the novel or the Disney film. No one would have made any connections between them simply because there weren't any. I'm not saying the disorders did not exist, merely that no one would have used them as frames of reference for characters as they weren't acknowledged as disorders, or even concerns. A temperamental child was simply that, an argumentative and slightly batty old man was just that. Nothing more.

Sounds good enough to me. Especially since lucid dreaming can be a rather intense experience. Had several of 'em in my lifetime and always looking forward for the next one. This comes with several, let's say, advantages: - you can write down your dream since you can remember most of it after waking up. Even months after said dream. - since you can write down that stuff, nothing stops you from crafting a nice story from it. I bet some authors do just that. - or you give it a different approach and actively try out stuff in said dream. If they work there, they might work in reality as well. Think about a "natural VR/AR sim". Bet some inventors were able to induce lucid dreams. - a lucid dream is never a nightmare, no matter how intense stuff gets. In a nightmare "something" controls you. In a lucid dream, the controls are given to you. So in case you're dreaming about seeing your family getting killed in an accident, in a nightmare, you can't stop that from happening. In a lucid dream, you simply can change the rules, tell your family to not enter that bus / train - and they'll listen. - speaking about nightmares: hadn't one in a long time (>20 years). No, I don't have lucid dreams every night. But I'm a computer gamer - and it's said, computer gamers suffer less from nightmares 'cuz they might have seen some frightening, but tightly controlled stuff. Apply that to a dreaming computer gamer and you get someone who still thinks it's tightly controlled and no matter what, will go through it far less disturbed than the ordinary man. Needless to say, in most years I have at least one or two full or semi-lucid dreams.
