Another Captcha fact: it used to ask you to type in the letters you saw from a word image, those images were from pictures of the words not so perfectly digitally scanned of old books and documets that hadn't been transcribed into digital texts. So everyone that worked on those Captchas helped transcribe old books and documents into digital form that can now be read from computers/devices.

The lines on the bus are also to tell emergency services where the floor, benches and shoulders of kids are. That indication is used when they need to cut open the bus to free someone that is stuck in there. It's a way to indicate "Cut here, not there!" in other terms
@marigeobrien
@marigeobrien Жыл бұрын
Wow! I knew they probably had more than one purpose, but I never would have thought of that. Thanks! I also wanted to mention that, in the U.S. only school buses are allowed to be painted yellow-- though in recent years cars have also been painted yellow, too. But that's so drivers can quickly identify them in traffic and be more prepared to stop behind or while approaching them if they need to take on or let off children. Not that everyone adheres to that. >:(

Actually if you know the code, the rings on the top of a can of food can tell you what's inside incase the label falls off. The number and placement of the rings indicate whether it's a vegetable, fruit, meat etc. I learned that in Home Ec. back in the 70s.

Regarding the crumb tray for your toaster - no manufacturer makes a tray the correct size or depth to catch all the crumbs. When you decide to empty the tray do it over the sink (or outside) and the upend the toaster and give it a shake or a gentle tap.

15:48 one of the biggest reasons for skin wrinkling in the bath is that it's the beginning of something called "sloughing," (pronounced "sluffing"). This is when the skin absorbs too much water and if a person spent too much time in it, your skin will actually begin to flake away. This can be easily seen if you have a callous; it will peel much faster there, so you can imagine that this is what would happen to the rest of your skin if you were immersed in water for too long. (But you'd have to spend *days* in it for this to happen. That's why magician David Blaine was unable to finish his immersion trick. He was losing so many layers of skin that he was in danger of severe infection)

Another fun fact about revolving doors (though I’m sure someone has pointed this out already) is that they literally save your physical energy as well, wherever there’s a big difference in air temperature there is also a difference in air pressure, you try opening a swing door between to very different ones.

I got a huge hidden detail that coincides with everyday experiences, at least in the US. I’m an Over The Road Driver, and as such, we mainly travel the Interstate System(which also has hidden features). Most states have a weigh station that is on the side of the highway as you enter a new state. But, have you noticed that some trucks pull in while others keep going? That’s because some truck companies out there are equipped with a little box in their windshield that picks up on the Weigh Station’s infrared beam(the little conical shape hanging over the right lane or lanes). If the station is open, but one is allowed to bypass, that beam sends a signal to that box, which in turn, lights up a green light, letting us, the driver, know that we can bypass it. Other companies have that technology built into their driving computers, which will tell the driver to bypass or pull in. Also, the hidden feature of the US interstate system is pretty genius. If the number ends in an odd number, it runs North to South mainly. If it ends in an Even number, it runs East to West mainly. If it is a 3 numbered interstate, the first number is how many other interstates tie into this section, and the last 2 are the number corresponding to the parent interstate. Example: I-285 in Atlanta, has 2 other interstates tying into it, I 20, and I 75, but the parent Interstate is I-85. Another example: I-465 coming around Indianapolis, IN. It has 4 interstates that intersect(I 70, I 74, I 69, and I 65), but it’s parent Interstate is I-65.

The pizza table is dual purpose, while it supports the lid from touching the pizza, you can also use it to separate those pesky slices that weren’t quite sliced right by pressing it on top of the slice next to the slice you want and pulling the slice you want while not touching the other slices with your dirty hands

Yet another cracking episode!❤️ I love the hole in the chair one, it makes sense and is a great idea! The wrinkled skin one is quite funny because I don't get that. It's part of the autonomic nervous system and I have autonomic dysfunction/sympathetic nerve dysfunction. I used to but it stopped happening about 20 years ago. One of my carers who helps me have a bath suddenly realised after *several* years, my toes and fingers remain wrinkle free 🤣 I have several neuropathies and this is the most fascinating one for me 😊

Dang! I'd never figure Vans shoes got popular for being practical and affordable. In the 2000s, in Brazil, these were for showing off, as they had to be imported from the USA and were that vulcanized, expensive and stylish marvel (we only used flip-flops, heels, tennis -runner - and classical leather shoes back then. Even sneakers, boats, slip-ins and thick sandals were rare). Also, they low key signified a teen were part of the metal, punk, emo, goth or skater scenes. ALSO, I'd never thought the soles being heavier than the 'body' was a planned feature! Interesting stuff

Another interesting little nugget about school buses... why they're yellow. In terms of traffic, yellow ubiquitously symbolizes "slow down" or "attention." Tell me that when you see a yellow sign or light on the road, you don't automatically react with the thought, "I should notice this and slow down." This actually mentally prepares other drivers on the road to respond to the buses' swing-out "Stop" sign to help prevent accidents... The more you know.

I’ve worked with animals all my life. Cats don’t always land on their feet. That’s a common myth, but I see what you did there. 😏😂

The pizza saver is also a tool to hold other slices while you grab a slice. That way you're not touching all the other slices of za.

The rub rails on a school bus are also for emergency responders to know where the floor is and the bottom of seats. So if they need to cut into the bus to rescue anyone they know exactly where to cut.

Do you also know with the Mc Donald's sauce cups you can unravel them to a flat surface so you can put more sauce on them? You just uncurl the lip of the pot at the top and pull it apart and it turns into a little tray for your Tommy K 😎

Chick-Fil-A is an avowedly Christian fast food chain (their stores are closed on Sundays), and they tend to want their employees to be converts. Some managers have prayer meetings on company time, and a worker who doesn't participate finds it hard to get the scheduled shifts or time off they want.

“Rub rails” on school buses, or also placed a very specific heights. The lowest one represents where the interior floor of the bus is, the middle one represents where the children’s seats are and the top one shows where the top of the seat backs are. This is to assist in rescues.
