sorry for the late reply I hear it on idle when in drive or reverse makes the engine rumble and when I drive it goes away :( but comes back at around idle speeds

I use an un-lit propane torch for the same job. You can really hear the idle change when that propane gets sucked into the leak.

I'm throwing 171/174 codes in my 05 325ci. I found the intake clamps loose and am now going to do your soap and water trick! I am afraid there might be a problem with the pcv system as it takes about 100 miles to show the code if I drive it hard, but won't code at low RPMs. I used to use WD40, but it was messy. but worked well. However your way is better as if it is a bad valve cover gasket, it will bubble in the bad spot! Good job!

The only problem I have is that you do not have to spray the whole engine to find leaks. First buy the right equipment to make checking for leaks easier. Secondly, you only have to spray the actual connections, fittings, or clamps. But the spray thing should be done as a last resort. Has nothing to do with the idling. The mixture of soap and water is to uncover air bubbles being forced out of a loose connection. Your P-code will give you the specific area of concern, and that's where your troubleshooting efforts should take place. You should also use Mitchell 1 diagnostics to assist.

Hey. Superb video. I have strange problem with short fuel trims. My engine is BMW M54B30. On bank 1 i got +25-28%, but on bank 2 it is ok 0 to 5%. I know that my oxygen sensor after cat on bank1 is dead. Is this can affect on fuel trims? MAF is working, I checked rubber hoses and there is no cracks. Help please. Thanks.

99.99% it is your alternator. I recommend taking your old one and having it rebuilt. Problem solved

Can you do this to find out if the valve cover gasket is leaking air? I have a vacuum leak but not sure if its the re-usable filter I put in or the VCG replacement.

Fuck bmw , I had unstable rpm when shifting to D and went to many workshops couldn’t find an air leakage, then finally on workshop discovered the reason and quess what it was ( the torque converter) fuck this car

I have a 1995 740i which starts right up, but with erratic idle then after a few seconds it'll shut down...but it will start again. Check engine light is on, service oil light is on. Motor has enough oil....I pulled the diagnostics code (1213) stomping the gas pedal, checked for leaks, found the boot cracked, replaced it the boot and didn't help any......help please.....!!!!

Joe Cortez ewerytime you have a fault code and fix it,you need to reset the faulty codes,,look for water in oil or it can be the sensors..remember its a old car so you prob have many old stuff that needs replacement

Thanks alot for the video! Question for you..I have a 2003 525i and I have a check engine light on with a code of p1349. My car when at idle shakes alot and when you accelerate it doesn't speed up fast, it takes it's time to accelerate. I took off the hoses that connect to the throttle body and saw a couple of "cracks" on the last hose that connecte to the idle control valve but wan't sure about being cracked tho. Do you suggest anything? Thanks man.

Replace any hoses that are cracked they might be sucking in more Air than it supposed to causing the car not to accelerate when necessary.

Good video, however there is no vacuum pump, that's the secondary air pump which blows fresh air through the exhaust on cold starts for better emissions. The valve with a vacuum line on it is however something that may fail.

I have a 1994 325iS. It idles rough, like really rough. It bounces to 1000rmp just in neutral, falls, then bounces again. Then it eventually stalls. There are no check engine lights or anything, so I don't think itd be the O2 sensor.. I figure its a vacuum leak. Any help or advice? thanks!

vaccum lines . mine did that and eventually didn't start . fuel pump fixed the problem . changeable in 30 mins by removing the bottom panel of the back seat

Clean out your MAF sensor and clean out the throttle body. That fixed my loss of power but i still have a leak somewhere.

You must have real bad misfires or real bad air leak. Check spark plugs and coils.

By the way today I turn on the car and drove off but the gears were going in really rough and I would accelerate and the rpms would stay high when I let go of the gas! They will come down eventually I stopped and let the car on and then turn it off and on and it went away!

sounds like an idle control valve (ICV.) most cars have valves that allow a little more air to the engine when the a/c is on. SOMETIMES one just needs to 1.) clean the air intake and 2.) clean the ICV.
