Hi Andrew! Excellent video!. Can you tell me how did you build the auger (the one below the green hopper)?
@paweldomejczyk
@paweldomejczyk 7 жыл бұрын
I like that you are using a valve as a vacuum regulator. It might be a good investment to get a small slow motor, instead of drill.
@frongello
@frongello 7 жыл бұрын
I totally agree. I went the cheapo route as I was expirmenting and Harbor Freight had a deal on the drill. Drill and Ebay reducer was about $60. I would like to get a variable worm drive motor at some point.

It looks like you're using 2" PVC pipe for the main winnowing but I'm not sure. Have you found any difference using 1 1/2" PVC?
@frongello
@frongello 6 жыл бұрын
Never tried it. Shouldn't be different. All I can think is that with that smaller diameter you will have to be able to divert away more suction because the speed of the air will be faster with a smaller diameter.

So simple yet effective. What kind of bean crusher/roller are you using? I've been doing some research but can't quite track down the right crusher.

Crankenstein Mill. A little pricey but does the job perfectly. My model has three rollers but you should just stick to the 2 roller version.

Hi Andrew, awesome system you made there! I couldn't understand completely the auger and 2nd drill auger system, how does it feed vertically. Just curious...
@frongello
@frongello 7 жыл бұрын
Hey Mariano....the white cap just above the tiffany green system comes off. I drop a few pounds of material into the green section and there is a screw that slowly feeds the material into the vacuum chamber. Otherwise without the screw/auger the vacuum would just suck all the material through too quickly.

Hi Andrew thanks so much for the great breakdown of your winnower. I'm wondering how your reducer slots into the ply on the bottom of your Crankandstein?
@knowyourouts3466
@knowyourouts3466 3 жыл бұрын
It doesn't touch the plywood. Basically the crank is a steel cylinder similiar in size to a half inch drill bit ......the reducer is made just like a drill chuck.....so it just bites on like a drill chuck. Does this answer your question?
@stateofwander6963
@stateofwander6963 3 жыл бұрын
@@knowyourouts3466 haha sorry I think I didn’t do a very good job explaining. I meant the pvc piece underneath the crankandstein that catches the cracked cocoa beans. I called it a reducer because it is large where it meets the plywood and then reduces down in size. I assume you just cut a hole in the two pieces of ply and slotted that pvc piece in. I am wondering if there is any issue with cracked cocoa beans getting caught on the top of ply outside of the diameter of the pvc piece since it is smaller than rectangular bottom of the crankandstein. I hope I’m explaining this adequately. Thanks for getting back. I will be receiving my crankandstein in the mail soon and will then really be able to properly examine it.

Nicely produced, you are a good teacher and a good engineer. Can you describe the auger? where did you find it? Did you find an auger that fit a PVC pipe, or is it a complete unit? Thanks so much!

Did you consider the percentage of the husks in the nibs in your design? We bought a winnower from Allure but the husk ratio is still so high. Do you think hot roasted beans are more effective than cool roasted bean?
@diego123322
@diego123322 Жыл бұрын
If you use hot roasted beans, it will not separate correctly, also because of the hight temperature of the beans it is posible it will become a mass due to the cocoa butter.

Andrew, this is great stuff, thanks for posting! Question - could you share link of the speed reducer / torque increaser, and any attachments? I can't find online. Thank you. Ben
@frongello
@frongello 7 жыл бұрын
Ben thanks for the comment. Before the advent of variable speed drills, speed reducers were quite common. They really haven't been mass manufactured since like the 60s/70s. So I had to go on Ebay and search for them. Query "Supreme Versamatic" on Ebay and you should find one. I paired my copy with a 3/8s drill chuck from Lowes and it did the trick beautifully.
@gbenjiglass
@gbenjiglass 7 жыл бұрын
Andrew, yes, I orderd the Supreme already. Saw the drill chucks online, but not sure what kind. Could you add the link for the one from Lowes? I'm not sure on what kind of male/female connector is needed.
@frongello
@frongello 7 жыл бұрын
Ben, I'm pretty sure I bought this one. If you get the Supreme and this chuck you should be good to go. Just a heads up. Don't be worried.....once you have the Supreme you'll be able to figure out how to mount the chuck. It just screws on. I was worried and then pleasantly suprised how easy it was. Any troubles just shoot me an email. Andrew www.lowes.com/pd/Jacobs-Chuck-Jacobs-1-2-In-Dr-Keyless-Chuck-Dual-Sleeve/1208031

Cezar. Obrigado!! Send me an email and I will try to dig up some of my earlier mock ups. There really is nothing to it though.....2 inch pvc pipe, joints, valve and a shop vac. My setup is pretty elaborate but all you need is a Y made of PVC. Lengths don't really matter. Andrew@Frongello.com
