The first AR-308 I put together about five years ago had the same problems, come to find out it was the bolt catch, every thing in the lower parts kit I bought was for the AR-10 except for the bolt catch, it was a AR-15 bolt catch (not interchangeable but it does fit) replaced it and now works properly.

It was my lower. The bolt catch came in the off brand lower parts kit I purchased, trying to save a little money. Everything else was correct. Just make sure to purchase all AR-308/AR-10, not AR-15. (The actual trigger group is exactly the same, though).

If the bolt isn't going back far enough on your lower. Pop it open and check the buffer. Ar10 buffers are short and heavy with adjustable stocks. Decent chance they put an ar15 buffer in it which can cause short cycling and bolt catch issues.

Definitely the buffer. Funny how ppl blame the manufacturers but they put the wrong buffer tube with an upper 🙄

I had this problem with a 6.5cm BCA upper, after a couple minutes of messing with it I found the bold catch was hitting the upper receiver casting. I ground just the edge of the upper casting where the bolt catch comes up to catch the bolt. Works flawlessly now that the bolt catch can go up far enough to engage! Hope this helps!

Using standard ar15 buttstock 6 position with carbine buffer mine did same thing. Put in a 308 short buffer and cut 5 coils off and now get full action of bolt with bolt lock open ( Hand charging ). Have not shot rifle yet. Using Anderson Gen2 lower and UTG 6 Position buttstock for ar15. Cutting 5 coils off allows the plastic bumper to be used on buffer if full collapse of spring happens.

Now I’m not completely sure what they did. But I believe they put a AR-10 buffer tube spring and correct AR-10 buffer. They were not specific on exactly what they did. But it works great.

It's funny because I have cycling issues and sent it back to bca. They said the same thing 'ran 10 rounds though it with no issues'. I got it back and could not get 2 rounds through it. I had to mortar it 2 times just get the bolt unstuck! It came back worse.

BCA replaced the buffer system. Pretty much the buffer tube, spring and buffer. Contact them again tell them it is not correct.

yeah I just emailed them and want to trade for a ar15 upper. I have 2 from bca and they run fine. I'm just going to bite the bullet and get a better 308 upper down the road.@@HawkMeyerOutdoors

it's the bolt catch my guy, run a higher end bolt catch from forward controls, battle arms development, phase 5 or of your preference. save yourself the time and hassle of sending it back to bca and having them swap it out for another one which came from the same factory and will more then likely meet their QC standards whether it's correct or not.

I had the same problem one of their .308 18” uppers without the fwd assist. I swapped the bolt catch on my lower to an Areo M5 and now it works with all mags. I know it’s on BCA to fix I’m just throwing that out there.

I'd go into it myself and fix it personally instead of sending it back. Maybe a $10 part (bolt release) or might need some adjusting. I've built 8 ARs myself and polish some parts before I install them. Polish the bolt for instance and look for burs inside the upper.

Check clearance of bolt catch first in lower, does it move easily and move to full range of motion? Then check thst upper does not interfere with catch movemrnt. Also chech buffer, is it correct one for 308/7.63×51 this cartridge requires a shorter heavier one. That its cycling well may indicate its catch but as you cannot get bolt back behind catch I suspect buffer issue.

Try an enhanced bolt catch. That's an issue with the lower, not the upper.

my guess is the bolt release/hold open may be out of spec. take off the upper and try lifting it with your finger. if you cant do it easily it may be sticking and need either replacing or filed down. I never go with original parts when i buy a complete lower. I replace all the springs/detents/ and controls with enhanced parts

I'm having the exact same issues with my BCA 308 but mine is a side charger. I bought the Mags that they recommended and the ammunition they recommended. They aren't but a couple hours from me. so I'll probably just drive there and hand it to them personally and be there when they test it.

Hey guys i just love BCA! Im so upset to see any issues with any of their producs. I have purchased 4 uppers from them and the one you guys have here was the last one i purchased. Although mine is a 20" SS barreled upper its basically the same model. I purchased a specialty lower from a local gun shop less then a mile from me. So far i havnt had a chance to put the lower together as im waiting on the lower parts kit and drop in trigger and buffer tube. I have everything else though....lol The reason i commented is because all of the products i have purchased from BCA have been top quality and low budget! I personally only had one issue with anything i purchased and that was because i didnt wait for a Gen2 AR47 upper! LOL I purchased their AR47 upper and at that point they had never tried steel cased ammo in their uppers. Well as busy as i get i had stuffed it in my safe before learning about the issues with the Gen1 47s so about a year go's by and i take it to the range finally with its own dedicated lower. I would pull the trigger and nothing.....as i only have steel cased ammo for it. Well i contacted them and they immediately sent me out a new firing pin with out a penny in cost to me and it showed up within 3days. Now after all that i own 4 uppers and my grendel carbine upper is a tac driver! I as well love the AR47 and the other one was a 5.56 upper that has never given me issue! So im praying i dont have any issues with my BC10 upper?lol Ill be looking for your follow up video for sure? Thanks guys i liked the video

i wonder if it is a lower issue, namely the bolt catch not catching. seems like the upper is doing its job. i wonder if a different branded lower would be better? or i wonder if the bolt release is not being fully set either by not enough spring tension, or possibly obstruction from the lower or upper?

This AR-10 is the only issue I have had with BCA. Between the two of us we have close to a dozen of their products with no issues. BCA did right and fixed this one free of charge. I would hesitate to buy another product form them.

The buffer tu e or spring is out of spec. Try a new spring or Clip 2 loops off the end of the spring and see what happens?

Glad I might have helped. I just helped my brother with getting his bear creek Arsenal side charging upper to mate up with an aero precision m5 lower. Then we swapped the 308 barrel with a 24 inch eld performance barrel chambered in 6.5 creedmoor. It runs like a dream!!!

I have not many AARs either your spring is too long or your breath buffers too long it’s bottoming out in the tube before the bolt catch catches the face of the bolt

Simple fix, the bolt not traveling far enough to the rear by manual manipulation is a buffer and buffer spring issue. Might have the wrong one installed. Bear Creek is good folks, will get you fixed up. I do love their barrels. Have quite a few now.

Mine has a horrible cam pin stuck and won't close the bolt even without a shell. Also the charging handle doesn't fit the frame properly, corners were scratched out. I ended up cleaned the bolt assembly, reinstalled, and lubricant.

That has nothing to do with the upper. That's the lower. I have a BCA 308 upper that works great with an Aero lower. Using both pmags and Lancer mags

@@HawkMeyerOutdoors I say this because I built an AR308 the info on buffer and spring are not obvious and I had same issue with bolt carrier not going back far enough. An AR308 buffer and spring made all the difference. I also found the billet upper I chose allowed the bolt carrier to hit the buffer tube edge. Good luck, hope BCA gets you straight.

Good video ! Check out Palmetto State Armory PSA 10 in .308 . Yes earlier PSA's had QA issues, (Gen 1 and 2), but Gen 3 works !!! Also Lifetime Warranty.... Hopefully Bear Creek will stand by their product..

I would not recommend a BCA 308 to anyone until they solve the problems with it. I've had two. Your better off spending money on a proven 308. I've spent over $200 in ammo on these junk uppers plus the pain of it all, only to end up with this junk i can't get ride of. The BCA 308 seems to be a big problem to myself and others one way or another. I bought a BCA 16" 308 upper. Put it an Areo lower with a match trigger, 308 buffer, Tubes flat spring, with a 10 round Magpul mag . It jams on every shot. I sent it back. They sent me another one and it has the sample problem. The only thing i can think of is the buffer comes forward to fast, which may mean the buffer is to heavy or the spring is to fast catching the shell coming out and the new round going in all at the same time. I've not tested this theory yet. If anyone has experienced this plz id it here!

Yes this particular rifle at the time of filming had already been sent back to BCA. They returned it to me as you seen. The rifle was sent back to Bear creek after filming and the issue was a incorrect buffer assembly. They replaced it and all shipping was free of charge. We love BCA but we will give a honest review. BCA stood by their product and fixed it. We have an update vid on our channel please check it out. We are looking into the 50 in the future.

Contact BCA tell them your issue. BCA fixed this one free of charge and is running great.

Bolt catch is probably out of spec. I used to be a BCA believer,,, one full upper and two builds using their barrels,,, third barrel was used all scratched barrel they sent me as it was new, I think it was a reject from customer and they passed to me, Sent it back and they they again sent it back to me claiming it was a totally different barrel, IT WAS NOT. Three customer support people and I am left as unhappy "EX" customer, I gave up on BCA.

The AR-10 had a buffer tube issue. We sent it back to BCA and the fixed the issue free of charge. It runs flawlessly.

One thing I've learned from building many lowers oil and work all moving parts while assembling.. it should of been done at the factory but you're being lazy and wasting shipping on a simple remedy

Thanks for the info. We paid Zero for shipping and i was personally not fixing a brand gun. I expect them to be working properly when I purchase them. BCA did right fixed the issue and didn’t charge a dime.

Well it wasn’t a 60 second fix. BCA installed the incorrect buffer system. Could we have fixed it sure but BCA features a lifetime warranty. Why would we fix a brand new gun with a lifetime warranty. In the end they stood by their warranty and fixed it on their dime as they should have. We have an update vid as well on this AR-10 and the rifle has been extremely reliable.

Not full of anything but turned out a incorrect buffer system was installed. BCA fixed it on their dime. Works perfectly now. We have also used it to take out hogs. We have an update vid on this rifle and a hunting vid up. Thanks for watching.

your buffer is to long, probably an AR15 buffer which is longer than an AR10 buffer.

BCA took care of the issue on their dime and fixed the issue promptly. Other than this issue I have never had a problem with BCA. We have multiple rifles and uppers between the two of use with no issues. Sorry to hear you have had problems.

I'm glad BCA took care of one of the people making utube videos on their products, but I can only speak to my interaction and the 2 uppers I purchased, and BCA customer service was a joke quit frankly and the was told my local gun smith to donate the 2 uppers to the scrap yard and that's what I did that listen learned
