This looks to be a hungry mother bear with her two near-adult sized hungry cubs that have run into a pair of smaller orphaned cubs that were waiting in the tree for their own mother bear. The orphaned cubs were probably separated from there original mother from either their mom being killed or chased away by a male bear and the cubs ran up the tree for safety while the mom distracted the male. The orphan cubs must've thought that the new mother bear was either their mom or a friendly bear since it probably gave off a similar "motherly" scent toward her own cubs if you will. The mother bear with the two larger cubs probably only saw the little cubs as food for her and her own cubs and having the smaller cubs approach her only triggered her defensive "mother bear" instincts, even if the orphaned cubs weren't approaching her in an aggressive manner. It's very rare to see a bear or any other nondomesticated animal try to take in or "adopt" orphaned animals, even of the same species as one of their own. It really is a dog-eat-dog world out there, but unfortunately, on 5/19/2017 it was a bear-eat-bear day. If you ever see a bear cub in the wild, GO AWAY IMMEDIATELY, and prepare yourself with bear mace because their mother is either close by or was killed by an even bigger predator that's close by as well. If you ever run into a Brown or Grizzly Bear, get in the fetal position and play dead while guarding your neck and vital organs since those bears just want to kill you to eliminate a possible threat for them. If you run into a Black Bear, fight with everything you've got because that bear wants to eat you. If you encounter a bear in the winter, GO AWAY, that thing is hangry because it didn't store enough food for winter hibernation so it will eat anything it can, no matter what the prey is. It's best to always have a can of bear mace on you when you're outdoors, even if you're just taking a hike because even though you probably won't ever have to face-off against a bear in the wild, it's never been pretty for those who have and you should protect yourself just in case.

@Mitchell Heath What he said is absolutely correct. A sow will kill cubs of not only her own but of other females as well. The one thing I do disagree with is that it is not rare for a sow to adopt the cubs of another sow. There are plenty of records of just that to prove that in fact they will. There is a perfect example at Explore.org where a bear named Holly adopted a cub of another sow who was being sought out by a boar during breeding season. That sow abandoned her cub to keep it from being killed by that boar so that he might breed with her. Holly then adopted that cub and raised him as her own.

@@PhantomM16 Male beer "fathers' have nothing to do with their own children, - they sex the female in the spring 1x, impregnate them, and aren't involved with the mother raising their children after birth. In fact the father will eat their own kids - he doesn't know or care otherwise. He doesn't care about passing on his genes. It is just nature's calling that he needs to sex a female bear in the spring.

My guess is…. The barrels were there to attract the bears so they could be hunted. I imagine the cubs were without their mother because she was hunted by the person filming or whoever else hunts that area, leaving the cubs motherless. Another bear family comes along attracted by the barrels and I can only imagine the cubs came down thinking/hoping that maybe that was their mother or that they’d be taken in… And it seemed for a sec like maybe it was gonna work, but ultimately not, as it’s rare for a wild animal to take in another’s offspring. Sad story but nature is that way unfortunately.

I have no idea of what's actually going on but it seems the 2 cubs got separated from the rest from the older bears that came out of nowhere. The momma bear ran away before they came. The two cubs come down and greet the biggest bear then realizes they're in trouble and unfortunately one gets eaten. Not sure if that was a large female bear or a large male. Because grown male bears tend to be a lone yet this bear had two smaller bears along with him/her. The momma bear that ran away was way too small to fight these bears off.

@kristianharrison98816 жыл бұрын
Bob Murica Not really that uncommon tbh, it's just more typical and well publicised that boars engage in this sort of behaviour, sow bears in coastal Alaska have been documented doing the same thing, and research in Pennsylvania showed that cubs that had been handled by researchers were sometimes eaten too, bears will be bears, and no bear in it's right mind will ever turn down an easy meal

Lions do it so there are no other genetics in the pride other than their own. They just kill the Cubs, not actually eat them. Male bears kill Cubs for food as an easy meal, if Mom is not able to protect them. So kind of the same as lions, but seemingly a different purpose.
