The financial markets enjoyed a banquet of steady stimulus in the decade following the Great Recession, and unsurprisingly rose to unprecedented heights by the end of 2021.
But that support was yanked away as inflation became a problem. As a result, 2022 saw painful losses in both stocks and bonds.
So far in 2023, the market has been fighting to get back its mojo, with mixed results.
We've spoken with a lot of macro analysts lately on this channel..today we speak with a top technical analyst to see what this approach is telling us about the post-QE, post-stimulus, post-bubble era we find ourselves in now.
Milton Berg is founder and Chief Executive Officer of MB Advisors, a premier global macro research and consulting company, offering investment advice to the world's largest asset managers.
Milton expects stocks to reverse into a bad bear market later this year. But gold is looking set to break out to new highs.

We offer exceptional interviews and explainer videos that dive deep into the trends driving today's markets, the economy, and your own net worth. We give you strategies for financial security, practical answers to questions like “how to grow my investments?”, and effective solutions for wealth building tailored to 'regular' investors just like you.
There’s no doubt that it's a very challenging time right now for the average investor. Above and beyond the recent economic impacts of COVID, the new era of record low interest rates, runaway US debt and US deficits, and trillions of dollars in monetary and fiscal stimulus stimulus has changed the rules of investing by dangerously distorting the Dow index, the S&P 500, and nearly all other asset prices. Can prices keep rising, or is there a painful reckoning ahead?
Let us help you prepare your portfolio just in case the future brings one or more of the following: inflation, deflation, a bull market, a bear market, a market correction, a stock market crash, a real estate bubble, a real estate crash, an economic boom, a recession, a depression, or another global financial crisis.
Put the wisdom from the money & markets experts we feature on Wealthion into action by scheduling a free consultation with Wealthion’s endorsed financial advisors, who will work with you to determine the right next steps for you to take in building your wealth.

It's not too complicated. For decades the federal authorities have been manipulating the value of assets, such as housing, autos, stocks, and bonds. They did this by changing the value of money. They prevented deflation. Now, we have asset bubbles everywhere. Only the wealthy can afford housing, auto, stocks and bonds. USA has moved drastically toward being a banana republic. What the Feds should have done is stabilize the currency to zero inflation and then allowed the markets to determine the value of all assets. The only way to fix the problem is to allow a massive deflation that corrects the asset bubbles. Why did they do this? The main reason is to save banks from their bad behavior as regards who and what gets loans. Banks create the money which comes with the responsibility of protecting the currency by not making loans that can't be paid back. Greed and bad behavior on the part of all of the players is the problem. The Federal Reserve is supposed to supervise and see to it that big problems don't develop. It turns out the the Federal Reserve is more interested in keeping the Congressional spendthrifts happy. It's a massive failure by everyone, and the commoner gets to pay, and pay we will.

We're in another 1929 situation where the banks were allowed to make loans into the traditional investment banking ventures. Look at the loan portfolio of SVB bank and other regional banks. Community banking is extremely important to the communities they serve, and that system has been abused and used by private equity, the wise guys in New York and on Wall Street. Gambling in speculative ventures was traditionally left to private equity. So, we had Glass-Stegall that made it law after the 1929 debacle. They did away with that law so here we are again.

Yeah, the stock bulls used to say "TINA", There Is No Alternative, to stocks. Now that treasuries are at over 5%, even for short term paper, yea, there is an alternative. Today the 3 month treasury is 5.15%. You do not have to buy 30 year paper in order to get 5%. Thus, if rates go down you can still get out of your treasuries reasonably quickly without taking a haircut.

That was a great interview with Milton; he is very insightful. Milton seems to be somewhat bullish on gold in the short to intermediate term. Gold did triple top; that break-out on the third hit, IMO, is just the the typical "overthrow". Assuming the markets begin to crash in the fall due to liquidity problems, gold usually declines about 20%. Gold is liquid and people are forced to sell it to meet margin calls. However, gold usually rallies after that second leg down in the equity markets and usually doesn't participate in that final third leg down in the equity bear market. Gold miners are stocks and they can fall as much as equities, sometimes more, during market crashes.

I wish he were working in a productive industry where his observations would be used to increase human technology. Finance wastes the brains of a lot of very smart people like this. We just need to return to gold, gold backed crypto that is not controlled or managed by government so they cannot track your every move. We need to get rid of the financial gambling section of our economy so we can all return to productive work.

Thanks, Joe. Former nuke-trained submarine officer. Served aboard three US SSNs and operated three pressurized water reactors for eleven years. IMHO, the biggest likely hazard at the Zap…shye plant is a a high explosive impact to spent fuel rods. At most pressurized water nuke power plants, spent fuel is placed in nearby protected cooling pools for several years after being removed from the reactor’s pressure vessel. These spent fuel cells contain fission products and fission product “daughters”. These are highly radioactive. The fission products and daughters are contained within several concentric metallic barriers. But they are not located within the main pressure vessel which is typically a “pot” with a 6-12 inch thick high-tensile strength alloy steel primary pressure vessel wall. So, spent fuel cells are much more vulnerable to damage from direct kinetic energy weapons than if the reactor itself is hit. A hit on a spent fuel pool has the effect of a “dirty” bomb, where the “dirty” part is the fission products and daughters inside the containments within the spent fuel cells. If the containment barriers surrounding the fission products are breached, the solid particulate and gaseous radioisotopes could be entrained within smoke plumes from collateral damage fires. Entrained radioisotopes would rise to altitudes at which jet streams occur, thus spreading contamination across a much wider area. However, the contamination entrainment would not be nearly as severe as happened at Chernobyl. The moderating material at Chernobyl was graphite. The graphite burned and drew much more contamination into the atmosphere than at Chernobyl. The moderator (and coolant) at Zaporizhizhye is water. So the danger of smoke-enhanced entrainment to higher altitudes would not be as great as in the Chernobyl accident. While a cleanup nightmare, the “excess” deaths from such an incident would be small - likely on the order of magnitude of Fukushima - 1 to 2 excess deaths due to acute radiation sickness. For reference, Chernobyl’s actual excess death rate due to acute radiation sickness was just north of thirty deaths. The accident at Chernobyl was a serious, actual nuclear accident, meaning that the reactor went supercritical during power operations. The power transient at Chernobyl exceeded 300 times the maximum rated thermal power of that reactor. Two explosions occurred. The first occurred when the supercriticality event (reactor fuel goes “prompt critical” without the power-slowing effects of normal delayed neutron criticality) caused the coolant water to “flash” to high pressure steam, causing the 2,000 ton reactor pressure vessel lid to separate and be tossed over twenty feet in the air. The second explosion happened when extremely high temperature steam reacted with the Zirconium cladding of the fuel cells. This reaction released large quantities of hydrogen gas. The graphite-fueled fires and the inrushing oxygen from the atmosphere combined to generate a hydrogen gas explosion. Do, yes, that’s how Zirconium degradation can lead to a hydrogen explosion.

Given that this is a bear market rally and that this rally is nearly exhausted, the best and safest shorts, IMO, is the RWM (1X short the Russell) and the EUM (1X short emerging markets). I also like the DOG (short 1X DOW) since the Dow seems particularly overdone to the upside. When the market begins to crash, the RWM and the EUM really move do to the lack of liquidity in the markets. If I go 2X short, I like the QID (2X short the Nasdaq), but i limit 2X shorts to 20% of my short positions. Any thoughts out there for those beginning to enter short positions?

The opposite view: 1. The guest is making a classic technical analysis mistake: judging a movement before it is complete. The weakness in stocks since February could simply be consolidation. You cannot say that the stocks are going down until they break the lower border of the consolidation box. For SPY, that is 390, for IWM, that is 165. 2. We are not getting a V shaped correction because those occur when Fed drops rate, as in 2018/2019. An initial move up followed by consolidation then another leg up is normal with 5% FFR. 3. It is technically wrong to call it a bear market rally when SPY is above 200 DMA on the daily and weekly. 4. The yield curve has not straightened yet To clarify, yes, economy is weak, our leaders are corrupt, and it is very possible we crash later this year or next year, but I would not short the markets at this level.

Gold is a commodity, but is in relative short supply unlike most other commodities. So, it served as a currency by kings and queens that shaped it into coins. Those days are long gone. However, it is still a commodity and should be treated as such. If the dollar gets more plentiful and chases the gold then the gold gets more expensive, pricier, against the dollar. If the dollar gets less plentiful, restricted monetary policy, then gold and all other commodities will get less pricey against the dollar. That's the fundamentals. So, are you betting on lax monetary supply or tight money supply? Buy gold if you think that the dollar is doomed, that it can't be saved. Anybody who is for gold for the future is spitting the Federal Reserve in the face. Similarly, anybody for crypto is doing the same. Does the Federal Reserve take this challenge lightly? We will find out.

What if gold is confiscated as it was in the 1930's? If you leave it to your grandchildren there will be nothing there? Nothing is safe. The only thing that stays the same is that things change.

If you self-custody the bullion, and a confiscation order is issued, follow your conscience. We are not slaves. If you hold ETFs, or a "gold IRA" custodied by an institution, then you will not be given a choice.

If you lie to the people and tell them inflation is 5% when it is really 10%, and then you tell the people you are going to raise rates to 5.5% to fight inflation, then you really aren't fighting inflation. You would have to raise the rates to 11-12% to fight inflation, if that's what you are really doing. But to do so would be to admit that you lied because people would ask why are you raising rates to 11-12% when you said inflation is only 5%, unless you lied to us. So, if the FED knows they are NOT fighting inflation by raising rates to 5.5%, then what ARE they doing, really? Well, they are pretending to fight inflation because they really can;t fight inflation without admitting they are lying. And they are causing a depression where assets deflate and consumer goods inflate here int he US, and crushing foreign markets where the currency is pegged to the dollar. By doing this, they maintain the hegemony of the dollar and crush foreign economic competition and emerging markets that are not a part of the BRICs nations.

Then they can go in and buy these deflated assets for pennies on the dollar where the ordinary person will HAVE to sell these deflated assets to pay their bills and buy consumbales at the INFLATED prices.

Mr. Berg is brilliant. His presentation shows that our markets have been controlled to the point of massive bubbles. He makes obvious many reasons why there appears to NOT be (limited), regulation provided, and rule of law has not been implemented, allowing vast takeaways to the system, that faked out free markets, to government managed markets for decades, as regulators sat at the coffee pot. It is obvious from his presentation Big is profit, and others are dregs and expendable. Well, it appears that my granddad, would say, "that is the way it is in AMERICA son, so get used to it". The getting used to it, now presents us with a major financial thief storm, created through fake everything??? BUBBLES EVERYWHERE, AND NO REGULATORS TO BE FOUND?? This presentation says, THE END JUSTIFIES THE MEANS FOR BIG, "GET USED TO IT SON", IT GETS WORSE FROM HERE.

The BRICS nations endured this happening with supply being valued in monopoly money, our natural resourses are also valued in monopoly money, and the balance of payments, (meaning value for value, balance transactions), is explained by actions in our markets, like a clan of leaf miners works a farmer's crop in the field. There is a discord here, and a large accounting that needs to be made more obvious, to our citizens.

Not to be unscientific here but I’m not convinced the numbers effectively tell the real story of the market or the economy. A less scientific but more meaningful verdict on the state of this economy would be: 5 years ago we had a healthy economy, low unemployment, and a bright future with S&P500 at 2700. What is it about our current situation that justifies the S&P500 being up 51% from that period? Nothing
