It makes me very happy to see a young person enjoying Opeth music. I was stupid and full of prejudices about growl singing and I avoided them for a long time, but I had no idea what kind of musical adventure it would lead me to. If you like Tool, I'm sure you'll also like Opeth. Their music doesn't sound the same, but it has the same effect due to the repetition of riffs and the complexity of the songs. They are masters in changing the energy in a song. Mikael Akerfeldt is one of the most talented rock musicians of the last 30 years. , and can you imagine that he is actually musically illiterate!? I feel great respect for Opeth because they always created music the way they want and feel, they never did it with the aim of pleasing the fans and becoming popular. They are influenced by music of very different genres, from classical, jazz, folk, old prog... and it's really fantastic how they turn it into their sound. I really love all their albums and all their different phases.

Saw Opeth live in June, will see them again in February. They are great and Mikaels (singer) silly ramblings between the songs are always funny. :) Remenber, these guys are not getting younger so if you have an opportunity, go see them live. And this is prog-metal, not rock'n'roll. ;D

It's called prog (metal) just like Tool. But since prog means progressive, there's no limitations to the variety. It's just usually beyond the mainstream norm and more challenging. Welcome to the "genre" mate 🙂
