This should be common politeness though. I don't know how the situation is overseas but, at least in Italy you're supposed to refer to older people as "sir" or to use at least a basic degree of formality when you speak to them, unless there is quite a lot of history between the two of you

I always sit down with homeless dudes and check out their story. Annoys some of my friends sometimes but I was so close to this myself and spent a lot of time on the streets. Take the time to talk to people guys; it might surprise you.

I also didn't realize all the talent and skill that goes into being a good barber. Well done. I hope he can keep up the new look. I hope Jeff's month in rehab and hopefully now new living situation will help him get back to remembering the good person I'm sure he is, and can rebuild his life. He's not too old to do just that. I think, what you've given him is not only a nice haircut, but an experience of your gentle touch and your attention, like making and handling a precious work of art. Right, no one can say for sure what Jeff's future will be like. But I believe that all the gentle words, warm attitudes and eye contact you've given him during the haircut, I'm sure those things would have helped and encouraged Jeff in some way, anyhow. Don't hear any of negative comments down there. They just undermine people or give negative effects on others. I work with them homeless up here in Illinois ..I also stayed in a sober house (Oxford) for 2 years following a 6 month stay in rehab and it saved my life ..tjis has been 15+ years ago .
