Wow. I've had mine since June 25th, 2020 and I have 13000 miles.. and I thought I drove a lot! I guess not from the comments here! I switched to Progressive when I got my Tesla Model Y Stealth Performance (RIP on that trim) and I spend LESS than I did with my old company for my CHEVY (expletive) VOLT. We have a Y with 17.6k miles on it, being driven since early June of 2020 (so we are clearly rank amateurs compared to you’all). Our car is in the 6000 VIN series, one of the very first after the factory reopening it seems, and one of the very first in our area (Greater NYC). (Interestingly, no panel gap or other issues, other than one dangling electrical connection that mobile service took care of, and so I suspect that Y problems are more of a KZbin phenomenon than real-world one. (Of course, yours was SO early that the issues were undoubtedly/understandably real.)) Lately it has been charging to 310 at home when we charge for a “Trip”, or 98% of the original EPA range. If the fastest drop in range is truly near the beginning, then I will consider that result “stupid-good”!!

That is fantastic results for 17k miles! I know that Tesla, at least in my opinion, really sorted out almost all of the quality issues by fall of 2020. The second batch of cars were better than first, 3rd better than second and on and on.

Our Y looks and feels like brand new and with all the OTA updates plus the Performance Boost Upgrade we bought our Y is vastly better than the day we drove it off the lot. I may subscribe to FSD on our next road trip just to see if that’s something we really need over basic AutoPilot which we use all the time and love. Our Service Center is 44 miles away, they have been marvelous, but when traveling there are HUGE gaps of several hundred miles of no coverage. Tesla needs MORE service centers. And I agree with your comments on Tesla’s implementation of Blind Spot Monitoring. They should offer Auto Lane Change in basic Auto Pilot.

With the 'Routine Maintenance' gospel applied to most new vehicles (and in some cases, required to retain the warranty), I've spent way too much on my ICE cars in the last 10 yrs (2015 Honda Fit, 2016 Subaru WRX). Some items on these routine maintenance lists are valid of course, change the oil, filter, check the brakes, rotate the tires - but it's getting almost predatory. My Subaru, currently @ 83k kms, will need a $1200 CDN routine service done before it hits 100k. I'll remember this when I invest in a Tesla. Since my brother & parents & I put 220,000 kms on a new 1995 Honda Accord & drove it for 7 yrs, parked outside in Canadian winter - and didn't have ONE SINGLE PROBLEM, I think car makers need to stand by their products more. If sensors or a transmission or even an air conditioner condensing unit die within, say, the first 6 yrs - they should fix it free, apologetically. It's their product. The fact consumers are being slowly bilked throughout their car ownership, is one of the reasons I want to move over to electric. Sure, there are too many maintenance appointments with early-run VIN's, but what you should get is a "don't worry, we'll fix this, here's a loaner in the meantime". I get with a ICE car that a timing chain needs to be replaced/adjusted at some point, there are things out of the car makers' hands, but it's time to put the costly, complex, messy, noisy, underpowered IC engines to rest. EVs are such a huge leap forward.

Hey, on the blind spots I have my own theory on how the UI should look that would be a huge help for this. So when you push the camera button and it brings up The view with the rear camera on top and the two repeater cameras below. I would like to see that exact view with the map on top and the two repeater cameras below as my primary driving mode. I don't know how to get this suggestion to Tesla but maybe it's something you can pass off to them. My other vehicles at 3/4 ton pickup truck and I never turn around to look over my shoulder because I have blind spot mirrors. Putting those repeater cameras on the screen full time would serve the same purpose and makes driving that much easier. As it is now, I just saw back and forth between the map and the cameras depending on my needs at the moment. But it sure would be great to be able to see it all at once.

On insurance, here in Florida, we're on Progressive and we're moving from a Volvo XC40 to a Y LR. Our 6-month premium is going up by $150 (perfect driving records, etc.). On accessories, the "Tesla tax" is in full effect on the costs, plus weeding through the junk vs quality items is difficult. We're going to try to keep it simple :) On visibility aids, the blind spot system and the lack of front cameras and a 360 degree view option is something we're going to sorely miss from our Volvo. The top down view is used every time we drive the Volvo. I'll have to see how the autoparking capability matches up in the Tesla.

Just a few questions for you: 1. May have missed this but why did you end up selling it? 2. Have you noticed the paint color difference with white between the bumper and body? Seemed noticeable in this video 3. Would you still recommend a Model Y today, and are there any positives to wait for the ones that will be produced at Giga Austin? Thanks!

1. Sold to replace with our new 7 passenger Y 2. The white paint on our original car had several colors across several panels

Awesome! I keep up with all of your content so I went and got mine last month! I do have a question for you though. How many miles do you get per charge? I’m averaging 220 in the city, I drive conservatively and charge at home. The car lived in a mall for 6 months before i bought it and I imagine the car remained on the charger at 100% could this be a factor into why I lost range?
@BeardedTeslaGuy3 жыл бұрын
220 miles is pretty low. At 70 MPH non stop i got 260 miles.
@frankh62953 жыл бұрын
@@BeardedTeslaGuy My 2020 Model 3 LR miles sounds similar. I have never seen 310 rated miles and have typically been 250-260 tops. Does that sound normal? Most of my miles are local driving. I am curious if your 70 mph range of 260 is common???

Interesting you mentioned the blind spot detection. Is the screen/cameras really that unreliable for seeing the cars in your blind spots? I've been driving cars with blind spot detection on the mirrors for several years now and I still swivel my head to check those spots on a lane change. Only time I notice the light on the mirror is when it is raining and giving me numerous false positives.

It’s not unreliable, it’s just not as convenient as having them on the side view mirror.

Model Y not worth the price. 1. No Android Auto / Carplay integration, 2: No sunshade for the roof, 3: Issues with fit and finish, 4: No blind spot warning (Talk about Technologically advanced car...need to fix the basics first before selling a pipedream of full self driving capability). And now that Tesla is opening up its charger network, you can buy any EV you want....and yes, some are better value (and build) than a Tesla....VW ID4 is one such vehicle..with plenty of EVs coming to the market. Tesla needs to step-up its game.
