For a long time, I thought it was terrible that the Goodwill charges so much for things that have been donated, and on top of that wanting you to round up!! I especially noticed when prices went up during and after covid. And that was when they stopped letting people use the restroom. And also stopped letting people use the dressing rooms. I feel that prices should be going lower now, because of inflation everywhere else. 4 years ago, after my sister passed away, and we cleaned out her apartment, her daughter-in-law said don't give all the stuff to the goodwill, because the owner is very wealthy! So fortunately we have another thrift store in town, and that's where everything went. :-)

Because stores get bonus for who sells most. 15 years ago they started pulling any oil painting, antiques, by sight. Then they got scan machine that identifies item and prices it., also snap shot everything that comes in. Use to buy junk jar jewerly for 6.-8.00 then 20..30. now they keep it all and sell in bulk. I shopped Goodwill a few times when it first came to town and wasn't impressed. Yes, you can find something worthwhile every now and then but far more difficult than the others which have also gotten more difficult but still better. If something with enough value is there, it gets pulled before getting to the store shelves. As listing items has gotten more difficult in making a final sale, just not enough incentive to go out of my way to go on a consistent basis. For those in which it pays off, keep going for it.

Our Goodwill in Arkansas, will give away anything to anyone in need! The disabled people that they hire come in late/don’t do much work. All is forgiven. No matter the pay, these people feel wanted & needed. = a necessary thing for all humans. The Goodwill employees are “very tolerate & gracious” to them. Compare to the RED Cross. Our town was devastated by a tornado. The Red Cross came with a small truck, giving out coffee & donuts! They were there for 1 day! We were told that b/c so many of the towns people volunteered, they were not needed! The Red Cross left.

You also have to know that goodwill knows when they get an expensive item given to them. They have professionals that no longer put remarkable finds in any of their stores. Plus in CA. everything they do put into their walk-in stores are overpriced. Gone are the days of you finding anything worth money in a thrift store and gone are the days that if you need cheap cloths you won’t get anything cheap at any thrift store.

The submarine. It appears to have been made by one of our US public shipyard. Typically made to commemorate either a public employee retirement or decommissioning of the ship. They usually never have any markings but they sometime have a plaque for the person retiring. That Btw is a Benjamin Franklin Class submarine (predecessor to the Los Angeles class attack submarine) that was decommissioned in the early 2000's.

All this stuff "Goodwilt" puts out should have a sticker, or staple on tag, that shows "Date & time stamp". This way they can remove the "crap" that doesn't sell, and keep things interesting.

@kingme112684 Thank you for your information on the little replica submarine! Fascinating stuff... how do you know so much about it? Are you in the Navy or perhaps in the shipbuilding industry?

The bird is a Target bird. The tag has its name and year it was released. There used to be a huge market for them. The older, the better, but even some of the new ones that sell out in store can go for decent money. Especially if you get them for $1.99! Great find!

I haven't seen a jewelry bag in an Ill Will in years, and one worth the money in even longer. One store has recently made items only, i.e. stuff I wouldn't pay ten cents for. No golf clubs at all. The art is Target and Wal-mart leftovers. If I spend $10 in a Goodwill, it's in a good month. We don't get the boxes or baggies; they're all sold separately.

It is wonderful that people in need can find quality products at affordable prices. Unfortunately, the prices could also be rising because there are those who shop to resale. Sad if you think about it.
@cherylallis24589 ай бұрын
I disagree. People who shop for resale are earning a living, too.

Here in Germany we have Diakonie stores operated by the church. I know someone who used to work there. They separate all clothing into 3 parts: high-quality brand name, average, and junk. The junk gets thrown out, and the high quality brand-name stuff gets sent off to be distributed to the migrants. Only the average stuff ends up in the stores.

Hi Ann Hope you feel better soon. I have had hospital runs due to having so much pain from diverticulitis. Thank goodness antibiotics cleared it up. I wouldn't wish it on anyone. I still eat some of what I shouldn't cause I love to eat. Yes the holidays are very hard for many of us. Just be good to yourself. Take care ☮💜

They used to have "Jewelry Jars" which were bigger than quart jars filled with assorted jewelry. Now your store has plastic bags where you can see more of what is in them. ~ The black bead & wooden red oval beads with Nuts necklace is Old..
@dianagalaxy792810 ай бұрын
The red/orange oval beads are seeds from a coral tree. Very possible that the necklace was made in Hawaii.
@sugarbomb268 ай бұрын
The 'seed' looking necklace is called a 'rudraksha' necklace. It is a holy prayer necklace in Hinduisms and is made from the seeds of a holy plant:) .

When I sold in my booth I would fill mason Jars with those extra jewelry pieces. I was getting $25- $40 for every jar. I had regulars that would have me give them a call when I brought in new jars. Just a thought.
