Study of artist Romare Bearden and how his southern roots and years in Harlem have influenced his paintings and collages. In depicting, through his paintings, the black experience in America, he has been compared to such blues/jazz artists as Bessie Smith, Billie Holiday and Duke Ellington.

Ntozake's words are so affirming and appropriate for Bearden's work.

This was such a gem. One of my favorite parts was beginning at the 29:58 mark and an author named Al Murray was speaking about how art is about how it feels to be a human being without representative figures of it, for it is what you see, and it involves the human feelings as the raw materials itself.
