I'm inspired to become an painting artist and it just fascinates me of the many Black Artists we've had that have had little to no recognition in the schools. Art itself is dying in curriculum and that just makes the history of other Black Artists so very rare to find. I am so grateful for the internet and for youtube and this video to be able to learn more about artists such as Romare Bearden! He is a wonderful artist and his collage work is masterful. I hope to get a 10th as good as he was in his lifetime.

I want to change that! I wish more money and time was invested in the art curriculum. It gives younger students their best chance of learning and understanding different cultures.

Late, but Bearden was actually biracial.

This film touches on some of the most important aspects of Bearden: layering, references to classical studies, reinterpreting myths, jazz/blues influence, "playing" as creativity and grids.

Loved hearing his inspirations and watching him work. Jean- Michel Basquait's colour pallet is quite similar to Bearden's. They were colour masters!

Thank you for this magnificent video of this great black artist. One sees that in America it is mostly the Jewish artists that get a lot of appreciation.Romano was magnificent I found out about him through chance since I was looking for patchwork quilts and his work appeared...He deserves greater recognition I have shared this video...I am incidentally a mathematician that appreciates art too

Great pictures - perfect for the masons.. You'll never get rid of the ugly ghost of racism by focusing on race and pigment colouration.

Only 1.3% of the art in major museums in this country is by black artists. Their exclusion because of their race calls for focus on their art as a group.

Is this opinion based on research? Is it possible to get rid of the "ghost of racism" when it is still alive and devouring people? While "race" is imaginary, racism is real.

Romare Bearden is the biological son of two African-American parents. Our people descend from black African slaves but we absolutely come in every shade imaginable as M Alexander said. Tired of uninformed critics of our people and heritage.
