For those that know these systems and how they're made this asset is a fantastic foundation to build upon. Hello there you beautiful soul, I'm still working on the Basic System even though I'm using the current version of UE5, I got all the Animations remapped to a new Skeleton, however when I hit play with the new BP of the skeleton none of your beautiful logic functions at all, even though I selected the new Character BP in the GameModee (no HUD, no targeting, attacking, picking up weapons ect) I'm new to all this and this project has already taught me so much, I'd appreciate any help you could possibly provide me! Thank you though for just this immaculate production, can't wait till I can afford the new version! Edit: so I kind of fixed the issue in a way I felt was incredibly inefficient, but I needed to make a new BP for the character that had a different skeleton, and went through and changed all the reference nodes to the name of the new BP of the character, but it works I was just wondering if there was a better way lol, but still very beautiful and easy to follow code!! 👍

This is so intuitive I've followed your tutorials for a while now and they are by far the easiest to implement. However I'm having trouble switching the character mesh over to a metahuman. I have the face and hair grooms working but can't get the torso, legs and feet to replace the existing mesh. Any advice? Thanks!

Hey I love the system presentation and the way you broke it down and I'm planning on buying it soon. But I have a quick question is there a way that you could store the retrieved weapons in an inventory system so that the player don't have to constantly go back to where the weapon is to switch it.

Thanks so much man I put a lot of effort of trying to make it as simple as possible! So yeah it's actually really easy and it's something I'd like to add to the system in the future. If you go to my section on saving the game you can see there is an equipment struct. This is where the weapons are stored when saving the game. You'd use this same struct but in the player BP as an inventory. Then you can simply spawn them onto the character the same way the weapons are stored and loaded onto the character when a level opens, see the "spawn equipment" event. Hope this helps! Nice looking system, I am thinking about going ahead and buying the system. Just curious about something. Why do you make two different weapons for the AI and the player? Why not have just the one weapon and the weapon give the information to the owner of the weapon? I can make the AI look for and pick up the weapon.

Hey Jay! So at the time of making the system I wanted the AI weapons to have slightly different behaviour but these can be easily combined. In my upgraded new system I have combined the weapons, might be worth checking that one out before purchasing this one 🙂

also a way to use root motion attacks that turn your character to the ai between each attack in the combo, so that you're not completely moving, but also not attacking off to the side and missing in mid combo if the AI moves or gets pushed out of the way due to animation?

Hmm, I think turn in place animations are fairly simple but I've never actually dabbled in them myself Alex so I can't be of much help. It would be no problem adding to the Asset though once you learned how to implement it. In terms of root motion the animation will be driving all the collision and I'm unsure of anyway to change any of the movement mid animation. You could try lerping the capsule over to the enemy mid animation but I've not got much faith in that haha. My best suggestion is to try lock onto a target, play your root motion animation and see how it responds. Good luck A :)

i tried once free given basic asset. The issue is any montages are not variabled. if u'd variable all then mesh replacement for other types of custom skeletons would be easier for us. IK retargeting for montages also is easy. Regards.

i just downloaded it so haven't tried myself yet (stil oon building shaders on that one ) but open up an instance of the origional project go to project settings type bindings in search copy those settings over to your own project a quick glance at the BP_Playercharacter graphs initial setup is where crouch is hard coded as ctrl theblock and attack are hard coded in Attacking&Blocking graph all the others seem to be defined in project settings.

Name the file, choose where to save it (just put it on the desktop so you find it) Go to your own project , go to project settings> Input, upper right corner, import, choose the saved file,hit ok. Sure! You'd need to do a few things though: - change the camera and movement to 2D - change the attacks to respond to different keybinds for different attacks - change the animations to root motion so you can't attack while moving

i am looking for a way to regain Health, i am also trying to integrate your inventory items with healthkits to set maxHealth. But without success, is there a clean way?

Simply add your health kit health onto the player health and you're good to go :)

I have been playing around with the asset pack and it's great, it's very easy to use and the time you gain when using it, is amazing. However I have one question, I would like my character to stop moving when he attacks, so I could play the full animation and not have any movement interfere, is there a way I could set that up?

Thanks a lot nate! I'll be honest I dont know exactly how to set it up so the characters moves with the attack animation. This is something you'd have to look into yourself but it's definitely possible. Part of it is just removing the moving animation section of the animation blueprint, you could then set your movement speed to 0 when the character attacks. This wouldn't look very smooth though as the character will go from moving to standstill instantly and he wouldn't move with his attack. Let me know how you get on nate :)

@@Beardgames yeah :/, what about creating a delay during the attack animation? You can only move after the animation finishes, could that work?

@@natecoet3291 youu can easily stop and start movement by using anim notifies to tell you when the animation has started and when its over. The problem is that your character won't move with the animation, it won't look very realistic

@@Beardgames Thanks I managed, in the end I set the "blend per bone node" to pelvis. I am using root animation. So the movement only occurs after the animation ends. I didn't want my character to hit while running that's why.

I posted a comment on the marketplace asset itself about this, but when setting up the system to work on a custom skeleton, things like attack animations don't seem to work. I'm not sure if it's a problem with the system itself or if i'm just not finding the right things, so, where would I go to change those montages or make this system work on a custom skeleton? I've changed every montage I could find in-between the original asset and my new asset which uses a custom skeleton, but no matter what I do, attack montages don't seem to work when using fists. I also had to change the node type when blocking to a different Additive node as i've made the animations myself on the custom skeleton and doing things based on curves is just not how the art assets were designed (my animations use curves for shapekeys, a.k.a facial expressions, instead of curves for each bone). The attack montages themselves are fine and play just fine when called in another project so there's something happening in the project itself, and i'm not sure what's causing it. One time it did work, but it only played a short snippet of the shapekey curves, and that was the one and only time I ever saw it doing *something*. At a complete stump, here, and help would be very appreciated. I just bought this pack and am excited to go far with it but this is a big roadblock.

Hey xweert sorry for not getting back to you on the marketplace I've been pretty tied down with things recently! So when you run into issues like these you need to isolate different areas of code to find out what's giving you the issue. What I'd recommend is following my tutorial exactly on changing all the animations over and testing again. If it's not working try simply playing an animation montage with a keypress event. If the animation isn't playing then there's something up with your animation/skeleton. Once you play around with things and get your animations playing normally through montages it's just a matter of slotting them back into the system where I show on the tutorial :) let me know how this goes for you!

It uses the same as the Character so you can swap the AI mesh to whatever mesh uses the same skeleton 🙂

Thank you for this amazing content! I'm having an issue when I'm trying to import this asset into the third person template project. When I run the game after changing the game mode to BP_GameModee, the player character seems to still be the default third person template player character (no HUD, attacks or rolls) and I get the following error: ---Blueprint Runtime Error: "Accessed None trying to read property CharRef". Blueprint: BP_PlayerHUD Function: Execute Ubergraph BP Player HUD Graph: IsValid Node: Branch Any idea what I can do to fix this? I'm using UE 4.26. Thank you!

Hey no problem at all :) so just double check the game mode is the correct game mode. The character is being loaded in because your getting the error with the hud. After your checked the game mode just check that the hud is also set as the HUD in the same settings area. Let me know how you get on :)

@@Beardgames Thank you for the quick response! The GameMode Override is set to BP_GameModee and the HUD Class is set to BP_PlayerHUD under the Game Mode category. I wonder if there is something wrong with my project settings?

Okay I managed to fix this issue by deleting the third person default character and the character from the asset pack should appear and all should be fine, it's because the engine is reading from the default third person character instead of the character form the asset pack and it creates conflict.
