Today I'm full of beans, because we're attempting a food challenge which has been on my bucket list for years now...
We're at Kendall's in Noble, Oklahoma having a crack at their infamous, twenty year old, 'Chicken Fry Challenge'!
This thing costs $50 and consists of three huge chicken fried steaks, a double serving of mashed potatoes, double serving of green beans, a biscuit, side salad and two of their renowned cinnamon rolls. Finish inside one hour and it's yours on the house, plus you get a choice of winner's garment (they have a selection of long/short sleeved tops with a bunch of different designs on them).

All have done evil, “For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God” (Romans 3:23) The penalty for sin is hell (Revelation 21:8). Because of Gods love for us Jesus Christ came down from heaven to take the punishment for our sin on the cross in which he was spat on, beaten, mocked and laughed at Christ died for the sins of the world and The third day God raised him from the dead (Praise God). This was done so that those who believe on Christ will not perish (hell) but have life everlasting (heaven); be justified by Gods grace through redemption in Christ (John 3:16) (Romans 3:24) The blood Jesus shed on the cross washes away our sin, if we Believe in The Son of God and his finished work (ordained by God) on the cross. When this happens the believer receives the righteousness of Christ in place of their own unrighteousness (all sins are forgiven) and this makes them saved (going heaven) and they are born again as a Christian. (Romans 3:25-26).

You notice the harder challenges are the ones that have a lot of meat. Our body has very specific satiation mechanisms for meat and animal fat. Basically, when you've had your fill, a door slams shut. Those mechanisms can be heavily obscured by carbs and sugar. He always asks for Root beer mid meal or after he finishes all the meat. Root beer is extremely sweet and has tons of sugar in it. He's using that insulin response to allow himself to be able eat more food.
@TheMacroSlacker
@TheMacroSlacker Жыл бұрын
The sugar also allows the stomach to empty into the small intestine. It may not open to the meat, but some of that liquid could get out and carry some of the other liquified food out.

You're telling me a chicken fried this steak? Seriously though - as someone from Texas, this food is some of the best. Some people don't have a taste for it, but most people I've met are just genuinely caught off guard by how much flavor a good " down home Southern cooking " place can have in just their most basic things like green beans. Mostly because down here it's common to cook green beans in bacon grease. Yeah.

Right on man. I’m from Texas, been eating chicken fried steak my whole life. I’ve never thought of the cream gravy as really being a peppery bechamel. Just as an aside to British people: we have brown gravy here too. The white gravy is a southern delicacy, and if you are ever in the southern US and have a chance to try biscuits and gravy, you don't want to pass it up. There will usually be crumbled sausage in it, and it's made with bacon grease and is so savory and delicious. You can get it in the north as well, but it's never quite as good.

What do you mean,"the stuff they call gravy?" In the south, a breakfast staple is biscuits and gravy. It's the same type of gravy. It's made with either flour or cornmeal. My grandmother fixed it almost every morning. We'd get that and some bacon or sausage to go with it. That's how you start the day off right. The brown gravy is nice with many meats, but for chicken fried steak, you gotta have the white cornmeal gravy.
@fragalot
@fragalot Күн бұрын
Chicken fried steak is made from cubed steak, which is a tenderized cut of beef that’s usually made from round steak. It’s called “cubed” because it’s been mechanically tenderized by pounding or using a blade tenderizer to create small cuts on the surface. It's cut in such a way but not completely though. This gives it a lot of surface area for the batter to cling on to, and then it's fried like you would with fried chicken. The white sauce is usually a bechamel based white "country" gravy.
