It never fails when you are really in need of a piece of equipment, it will break down, regardless of what brand it is. I have the same problem here as well.

Glad to hear you've gotten good service out of that 535. We bought a Vermeer 505SI baler new in the early 90's and she's still going strong, though she's due for some new belts. Baler fires are one of my big worries - seems like every year a baler around here burns up. I check/feel all the bearings at the end of the day just to make sure none are too warm - and of course do the PM before I start in the morning.

Glad it didn't burn I've used my fire extinguisher more than once and was glad to have it. Good vids as always Tyson those JD balers are $50,000 more than in 1993. I bought my NH new but it was 2 years old and got a smocking deal on it and when I wanted another I told the salesman I can't buy a used baler with 10,000 bales on it for more than I paid for a new one , he said He should've soaked me on my new one then I wouldn't feel bad lol he is a pretty good guy. hay looked really nice still

I check to see if any bearing get warm when start and the warm ones I drill a hole in the seal and inject some grease. keeps email going for a while so you can change them on a rainy day.
@farmrrick7 жыл бұрын
There are some needle greasers too. They slip up under the seal so you can lube them without destroying the seal.

They have tons.... One of the most common bearings on that baler
@jayss107 жыл бұрын
Probably wouldn't be a bad idea to mount a water/fluid based fire extinguisher on your balers someplace. A decent one would run you about $200 US each if not less. I've actually seen kits at the dealers to mount up one. If you get a really good one they have a tire shraider valve on the trigger body so you can recharge it at the farm yourself without having to monkey around with an adapter on the hose and pulling the trigger to charge it. Only problem with water based extinguishers is you should bring them in during the winter or empty them out. It's cheap insurance. While enclosed cab machines are so much nicer to operate it also blocks those noises from the machine when things like that start to go. You thought it was the radio, nope. Lucky you caught it before she lit off.

If the belts treads are wore...put new belts on...makes a big difference for starting bales
@danielaltman99457 жыл бұрын
The belts are the originals. They are not worn, but are a little weather cracked. They even have the original JD style gator clips. I'll replace all the pins and see if I can get lucky a few seasons.

I never use quick connects on wires. I always solider them then wrap with a bit of elec tape then shrink tubing and that is a trouble free for life connection. Can't you use a smaller 2 wheel drive tractor to pull the baler? Do you plant, cut and bale alfalfa? I think cows like alfalfa and cut corn.

I dont have any other smaller 2 wd to run the balers... these tractors are only 120 hp
