"They're what you become if you destroy Galifrey."
One of the main reasons I love Doctor Who isn't that it has joyous times, but its the painful, sad, emotional times which make the show so impactful and interesting. The Doctor wouldn't have good times without his pain.

It's almost like the doctors are the stages of grief. Eccleston was disbelief. Tennant was anger. Smith was guilt. Capaldi was acceptance. Not a fan of Whitticker but it's like she is healing

Eccleston was almost angry but mostly depressed. Tennant had a sorrow god complex. Smith was neglectful and was always running he wasn't guilty he never let himself think. Capaldi was darker incarnation wouldn't take shit from anyone. Haven't seen much of Whitticher but I think she fails so capture the full range of the character and her acting comes off as weak some of the scenes in this for examples just didn't have the deepth of the of actors here quite frankly I think Whittaker wasn't a suitable actor for the part. Call me sexiest but I don't care I think she failed in this role. Any way just my 2 cents

@anonymouswhite352 it's mostly the writer's fault. I believe she was told not to watch any doctor material before her acting. She aspired to be the best in her performance, yet the writing failed and her acting came out as weak as the script she performed wpuld have her bounce all over the place and it would leave massive whiplash. Or just straight up boredom.

You either die a hero or you live long enough to see yourself become a villain. This quote suits the doctor far more then Batman, because he is a man who has lived too long, has fought in so many wars, lost so much in life, and when you keep having to fight and hold on tight to that pain to those memories until they singe into your soul, it becomes harder and harder to do so no matter what he/she does.... But. Everybody knows that everybody dies and nobody knows it like the Doctor. But I do think that all the skies of all the worlds might just turn dark if he ever, for one moment, accepts it. But not every day. Not today. Some days are special. Some days are so, so blessed. Some days, nobody dies at all. Now and then, Every once in a very long while, every day in a million days, when the wind stands fair and the Doctor comes to call, everybody lives.

This might have something to do with Tennant being the Doctor for the longest time out of the revived series actors who have played him, but most of the Doctor's best lines come from Tennant's time as the Doctor. There are times when he shares his pain and grief with the audience and we feel sorry for him. But there are just as many times when he shows his rage and I don't know about anyone else but he actually scares me. The best 2 moments where we see his rage, in my opinion, are Forest of the Dead when he speaks directly to the Vashta Nerada and, despite there still being no known way to fight the Vashta Nerada more than slowing them down, they respect and fear him enough to back down. The second moment is basically the whole episode of Demon's Run. Hey's joyful throughout most of that episode, laughing at how easily his friends take the base, but at the beginning he wipes out a whole Cyberfleet simultaneously and near the end, he terrifies Madame Kovarian after she taunts him.

If I remember rightly the new Doctor specifically refused to watch a single previous episode of the show because she didn't want to be influenced. By contrast literally every single previous actor on the show has been an enormous fan of the show excited to play a role in it. Whether or not her decision to go into it knowing nothing about the show's history is a good one or not, I think the director's decision to _allow_ that when previously only ardent fans were hired probably has something to do with the change of pace.

Twelve’s season should have ended with The Doctor dying. Not to avoid the Thirteen’s series, but because Twelve’s era was about how immortality and a longer life becomes tiring, that you get “tired of watching everything turn to dust”- The Doctor dying for good would have been a bittersweet ending for The Doctor- finally putting him to rest after his painfully long lifespan.

I don't know about kill himself. But I could see one day he starts to regenerate, and it turns out there's just been too many regenerations. There's nothing left for the fire to rekindle. So he merely fades away into ash and smoke and drifts into the realm of legends forever. But with so many incarnations strewn about the timeline it would, in someways, be like he was everywhere at once. Perhaps a final companion or enemy would witness his burnout, but the universe at large would refuse to believe it. And so he'd be immortal whether he liked it or not. That's how I imagine the Doctor dies.

Doctor Who is the show that really made me decide that I want to be an actor, and the sad thing about that is that I will most likely never get to play in the show, I ofc want the role of the Doctor but I would be happy just being a one off character in a random episode. But not being from the UK makes that impossible for me

1:00 12th Doctor: In all that time, did you ever hear anything about anyone who stopped me? A billion years ago: Rose Tyler, all of 19 years old, stepped between the Doctor and (supposedly) the last Dalek and asked him what he was becoming. He dropped the weapon he was pointing at her. So often, it's the Companions who stop him, who encourage the better parts of his nature. Rose, Donna, River, Amy, and all the others. They're like the angels sitting on his shoulder, pushing him to be better. It's when he is alone that weight of his life and fate crushes him and leads him to lash out. Just as Amy said, this is what happens when he travels alone.

Well 10 said he didn’t wanna go and that’s cuz he did not have a long tenure. Yes he served 4 years just like smith and Capaldi, but 11 lived for hundreds of years, as seen in season 6 and in time of the Doctor. 12 gave his age as over 2000 at one point, and that’s not counting the 4.5 billion years in confession dial. David Tennant’s Doctor gives his age as 900-904, that incarnation only lived for 4 years.

You sir are a time lord and your name dances in the medusa cascade. And I love you.

All these make me cry. We see a silly Time Lord, in their silly box, have silly adventures... Remember the last time something hurt you. Really, truly, deeply hurt you. And at some point, you tell a joke. Maybe it’s funny, or bitter, or just absurd. And yet you laugh at it, so that you don’t cry. And that moment, that brief breath of your pain? That’s the Doctor.

She doesn't get the little things right like each doctor has had that look that says he is about to do something clever and you have messed up by messing with him. He version of that face is a who farted look. She misses all those little things. Capaldi had crap writing but he was amazing and got all those little things right.

Doctor Who is a perfect example of why people shouldn't be afraid of death. Although it's much easier said than done, the idea of immortality and endless living is just as frightening as death in a way as eventually you'll lose the people you care and love so dear and what happens after that? What kind of grief will someone experience and forcibly endure? Even if you're the smartest man in the room you cant prevent death as without death, life would have no meaning. It's just the same as the Doctor's current dilemma; to him, his current existence has no meaning as although he has come face to face with gods, demons and monsters, he is powerless in saving his companions from their inevitable death and that's what makes immortality an infinite torture.

This is why I love The Doctor. At first glance he is playful, happy, adventurous. But inside hides a monster that has shattered empires, killed too many to count, made sacrifices and choices that no one should ever have to make. He is the monster inside the man, the terror of all evil. His suffering is beyond measure and the moments when the mask falls and we see the darkness that festers within him. 9, 10, and 11 depicted these aspects perfectly for me. With 11 wishing to forget the pain and hides behind a childish persona. 10 regretting the choices he has had to make. And 9 is fresh from the Time War.

the doctor no matter what Timeloard, god ... he is the most human out of all of the universe because he has regrets, happy moments, sad moments, outbreaks and yet.... he saves the universe for us because thats what he truly is... human he might make thousands or even millions die but he does it not to save himself but to save others there might be some things that look bad but they don't know what the future holds.... he does what that does to a man.... it destroys them on the inside yet... thats why we love him he may make some bad decisions but if it were not for him we'd stand no chance against these aliens thats what make him .... human.
