the moment i saw lance zierlein compare austin booker a 5th round pick to MAX CROSBY i was very very intruiged by him saw steve palazollo talk about how there were GMs who were very high on him and felt that if he stayed a year in kansas hed be a fringe first round pick in 2025. The problem came to the fact that he lost weight for the combine and wasnt given a great platform to succeed. will be very interesting to see how his development goes especially when it comes to his strength

🇷🇪 1. Cutting Homer due to depth at the HB position plus wanting to keep either an extra EDGE or DB due to both rooms playing pretty well 2. Since both lead to the Bears making the playoffs, I’d take the 9-8 grind season with beating the Packers twice as it would make us more battle tested for the playoffs. I’m expecting to lose to the Packers twice until it happens but would love to be proven wrong. Bear Down!!!!!

🛳️ all aboard the Ian Wheeler ship, he our RB4 y’all. Great story line and he’s got good speed. Thanks for addressing some of TheQBSchools hot takes on Keenan’s speed and preseason play calling from Shane. First half of our season does feel like an extended pre-season run for us, and then 2nd half is gonna be freakin exciting to watch.

I grew up Wisconsin, first Bears/Packers season I remember is 1994/1995 when the Bears lost 33-6 and 40-3. I'll take the wins over the Packers. Cut Homer. 🏴‍☠

Question for Nick regarding Velus: As a coach does it ever become a problem in the locker room if you keep trying to work with a guy to find a way for him to fit and it just isn't working? At some point to the other players does it start to feel like favoritism, and is that a problem?
@_NickWhalen
@_NickWhalen 2 ай бұрын
It can be a problem when the players can see it's hurting the team and not working, but coaches are trying to force it. It gets worse if the team is losing because of it.

@@_NickWhalen Not sure if you noticed Velus as a gunner vs Cincy. I haven't seen/noticed Wheeler on special teams. It seems like Velus may be competing with Homer or they're trying to see if he has any value anywhere than just KR. Then Velus could essentially be KR and special teams while being the emergency RB3-4 depending on how many RBs dress. Real surprising Wheeler hasn't been on KR as he had 3 KR TDs in college.

Keenan's 17 game pace last year would have put him at 141 catches, so your mental math was right on the money, Nick.

Talking about Booker, and how rare it would be for him to contribute I think of Mark Anderson, a 5th round pick of the Bears in 2006. Anderson had 12 sacks his rookie season as a DE. On Caleb's sack, it looked like he stepped up into the pressure and caused it himself.

He is very Mark Anderson-ish and I believe Anderson had 8.5 sacks the SB season. I don't wanna talk SB, 10+ wins is where I'm comfortable putting Bears at.

Definitely I'd prefer beating the packers twice to 4000 yards from Caleb. It would be sweet if Caleb was actually the second coming of Aaron Rodgers (his football hero) and they had to live with that for 10+ years.

I love how people hated the punter being drafted so highly. Sebastian Janikowski was a kicker who was drafted in the first round and was essentially the best kicker in the NFL for a majority of his career. It was a pick that most teams would make 100/100 times. People have to keep in mind how protected kickers and punters are. They are more protected than QB's. Hell, kickers tend to lead their teams in points scored. The risk/reward is minimized, and people need to stop undervaluing ST's. I'm saying this: drafting a punter in 4th round is many times better than some non-special teams guy who might not even make the team, let alone play 1, 2, 3 etc seaaons. People have to stop remembering when picks work out and keep in context how many picks don't work, which is way, way more. A punter drafted so high (for a reason) has much better odds of still making an impact for the team in a decade 😎

I'd keep Pettis over Webster. Seems like a guy that young QB's (Fields, Bagent) kept finding comfortable to work with.

Webster by a mile....Pettis whole career has been one of injuries and non-production. Velus should be running track, he's not a football player. Keep Wheeler, he IS a football player and is a better runner than even the over-hyped, over-rated Roshon Johnson. Johnson is slow, has no burst or twitch, and is not long for the NFL. Homer has to go.

I agree on cutting Velus, this is sunk cost fallacy in action. Hes a liability and hes not a viable WR, RB, or punt returner. Ive liked what Ive seen from Wheeler and Scott more

Velus couldn’t stop the ball from going into the end zone so who cares if he can be a gunner if he can’t stop the ball from going into the end zone Poles need to admit he made a mistake

It worries me that Caleb doesn’t have that steadying veteran in the locker room like Mahomes did in Smith to learn from. Mahomes was wild and out of structure in college but I think learned to rein it in a bit from sitting a year. Caleb won’t have that, and I don’t think Bagent as a 2nd year undrafted player himself is in a great position to teach him that sort of thing.
