Have you used Beast Academy? If so, what was your take on it? Did it work for your child?

I have spent so long trying to find maths program for my 5 year daughter, she hated almost everything and I would have to bribe her. She's flying through this one with so much enthusiasm that I would have to say you've been doing maths for 3 hours straight now, time to have a rest. It's boosted her confidence and while I'm putting baby down for a nap, she would come into the bedroom, so bursting proud she's completed another chapter on her own. It's great how it's open ended allowing the kids the space to work out their own way of getting the right answer, so good for creativity and problem solving. Love this program. It's a winner for us.

That is so great! I’m glad she is loving this. Math can be so hard!

Would you be willing to share what your daughter math looks like? I have a 5 year old as well.

This looks great, and it’s something I will take a look into. My son uses MUS Pre-Algebra, just started, prior he has done Zeta with MUS and then prior to that Saxon 76 and then mid way through 87 and then he absolutely struggled with 87, it was a real set back. I appreciate this video is a year old, but how long would you say it took your daughter daily doing BA?
@CalmintheChaosHomeschool10 ай бұрын
Honestly… not sure. She’s a super independent learner so she just does her school work in her room and only called me in when she didn’t understand something. I would assume 30-45 mins is probably average.

Ohhhhh I had never heard of this curriculum and my inner nerd is excited after watching this 😂 now I’m conflicted on this or keeping with our religious math curriculum. Dang it, Davene! Haha great review.

We use Beast Academy 5C as a supplement to our Saxon 8/7 for my 11 yr old. She likes the math Olympiad aspect of it. We use both the books and online. ☺️

So does the online program read the comic to them? I'm trying to find something that I don't have to sit there and read the whole thing
@CalmintheChaosHomeschool2 жыл бұрын
Had to ask my daughter... She says that it had the comics online, but you still had to read it.

Hello just a quick question I'm interested in purchasing level 4 books for my 9 year old. Is the answer sheet inside the book for the parents? Thank you for your time!
@CalmintheChaosHomeschool3 ай бұрын
I'm going to assume the answer key is in the books somewhere, though I can't be 100% sure. We mostly used the online portion, so it was self grading. I don't remember where the answers were for the books.

@CalmintheChaosHomeschool Thank you for the response! I'm going to go ahead and purchase the books.

is this helpful if your kid can't really read well
@CalmintheChaosHomeschool3 ай бұрын
Possibly. I would probably go to their website and take a look at the sample pages so that you could judge that for yourself.

Could you use this as your primary curriculum?
@CalmintheChaosHomeschool5 ай бұрын
Yes, it can. They say that " Students ages 6-8 should begin Beast Academy in Level 1". I would say that your child should have a base in mathematics before they get started though... know their numbers and number sense though. Definitely look at their website and samples to see where you should start.

It looks like fun but in looking through the curriculum at level 1&2, it seems quite advanced. Anyone have any trouble with kids getting it?
@CalmintheChaosHomeschool2 жыл бұрын
It is totally advanced. I have heard that when the child has completed level 5, they are ready for prealgebra. For example, my daughter did Teaching Textbooks Math 6 this year (as a 5th grader) and she picks things up very easily, but she was really struggling on BA level 4. I put her back to level 3, and that worked better. That being said, she does not love math, so we will be dropping this for the next year.
@ambers45242 жыл бұрын
Thank you for your reply! It does look fun, but also very “math minded” in how it’s taught! I may just order some of level one for my 2nd grader to read for fun. Not sure yet. It seems as though a lot of the shape/box activities are advanced mathematics ideas, so I’m wondering if people really use them later, if they’re not mathematicians or engineers. Though my child may become an engineer. lol! Wish I knew which curriculum would fit them perfectly. Haha. Moving on from Apologia math after this year, bored my child and made them hate math-which they honestly do love. Thanks again!! 💜

My oldest daughter really enjoys the Good and the Beautiful Math. I don’t know if that is an option for you. She thinks it’s fun and she has learned so much this year. I have a flip through of Math 4 if you want a look inside.

BEWARE this curriculum is NOT a curriculum!!! They are challenging math puzzles. It does not provide number place values, basic math problems that help with number place value. It is very confusing for young children. Worse thing is that it does not give a child a strong math foundation!
@CalmintheChaosHomeschool10 ай бұрын
Thank you for sharing your experience! I do know lots of families that use this as a curriculum and really love it. But maybe not for those earlier years?
