I sincerely hope that when Season 4 comes out, Beast Boy will be at full power. In the YJ series, he's only been shown to repeatedly use a handful of forms - eagle, rhino, elephant, monkey and, more than any of them, gorilla. This might be for a number of reasons ranging from how familiar with an animal's biology Garfield must be in order to transform into it (which would explain how/why he can turn into the winged alien form) to simply budget reasons. But I miss how many forms he had access to in the original series, everything from dinosaurs and prehistoric mammals to whales and spiders. Hell, I'm pretty sure he could've won against Granny if he turned into a fly, flew into her head, and then turned into a whale - she may be a New God, but having your organs (especially your brain) displaced by even the smallest amount the largest animal to have ever lived on Earth can't be good for your health. In short, I just want them to do my favorite green boy justice. They've done a spectacular job with his character and giving him a genuine relationship without Terra trying to kill or betray him, but I feel that came at the cost of his power.

I think beast boy only uses those animals because they are his heaviest hitters and in turn can tank. Not every animal is good for combat situations but he does use a variety of other animals for different things, like when he turned into what I assume was a wasp benefited that situation for he only wanted to distract. He turns into "demons" when he needs something more versatile yet I don't think he likes freaking out his team with these outlandish creatures. All in all, he uses different animals for different tasks.

@@somedude9309 I think it has to do more with how familiar he is with an animal - like, he has to know it's internal biology and anatomy, not just what it looks like on the outside. It's how he learned how to turn into that alien dragon and maybe why he doesn't turn into other animals as often. By your logic of 'heavy hitters', he would only turn into a rhinoceros if the space he was too small to let him turn into an elephant.

In this continuity, Beast Boy can only transform into animals he’s seen and studied (preferably up close), such as the Alien Bird he saw on Raan (I think that’s how it’s spelled?) in season 2 episode 2. While there are plenty of bones and theories on dinosaurs, that’s all they are, bones and theories, he needs to see a living one up close to transform into one, which unless there is a time travel episode or a secret hidden world (maybe even an alien zoo that picked some up from earth), it’s unlikely he’ll be turning into a dinosaur anytime soon unfortunately.

I personally like it. He’s gone through a lot in his life which is likely what prompted his early maturity, and though he can still be funny and childish at times, he’s much more of a leader in this show which isn’t something we normally see with Beast Boy except on special occasions. And in all honesty, what Beast Boy was saying in this season were straight facts. If he didn't create The Outsiders or even appeal to M'gann or Kaldur about it, then all of the heroes would have still gotten a bad reputation. So really, Beast Boy was the saving grace for everyone

I love Beast Boy as a comedic character, but so far that’s been his role in every incarnation (not saying that he doesn’t have serious aspects or arcs, but he still falls into the role of the goofy comic relief character when those specific arcs or plots are absent). It’s nice to have a change to the character as a whole while still keeping a toned down version of his comedic side, which allows for other aspects of his character to shine.

0:38 I stopped watching YJ after season 1 because I wasn't even aware there was anything after Season 1, but if this wasn't resolved then I think I figured this out. So, Garfield received the blood transfusion from M'gaan because he lost a lot of blood and just needed the blood transfusion like anyone else would. He got it from M'gaan because no one else had his blood type, so M'gaan used her shapeshifting powers to shapeshift her blood into an exact replica of his. He assumes that he got the ability to shapeshift into animals because he received martian blood, which carried over their shapeshifting ability into him, but that doesn't actually make sense. The martians don't have the ability to shapeshift into animals, necessarily, they can, but they can shapeshift into basically anything or anyone that they want, even if said person doesn't even exist, so why would Gar receive a lesser version of their shapeshifting, and nothing else? Because he didn't. Again, the whole reason why he received martian blood in the first place was because he simply needed a blood transfusion, and like M'gaan said, her shapeshifting abilities work down to the molecular level, and she directly copied his blood, so the blood he received should have been a perfect copy of his own. Instead, I say Gar had a meta-gene like the rest of the meta-humans that would have granted him the ability to shapeshift into animals, or whatever animal creatures he witnesses, and either the attack or the transfusion is what forced it to activate. The green skin is literally just part of the deal.
