Hey everyone thanks for watching this is a ok game that I am sure some will really enjoy and as far as Maximum games goes this is one of the better titles that have published on ps4 at least compared to the ones I have played like Troll and I, and Road Rage.

If you removed the combat system from consideration when rating this game- How would you rate the rest of the game? I've been trudging through the mobile version. The punch-out style combat is quite good although the "light attack spam" is nonsense. For every attack the enemy does- the player does 5 or 10 attacks. Even still the combat is engaging but the rest of the game is mostly fetch quests and wandering around to find things.

It's not vastly different if I'm not mistaken. And in my country its around 5 $ cheaper than monster hunter world. So that kind of AAA games are what I'm comparing beast quest with. If you look it that way it's surely an enormous rip off. It has the same price tag with ff xv royal edition for god sake...

Yeah, I´m not actually defending the game, it looks pretty mediocre at best ;) I´m just saying it is not a port of the mobile game or anything like that, the mobile game has a different graphical style, the gameplay is a bit different and it even differs a bit in the locations and bosses.

I was thinking about using my gold coins too. I have about 500, but for the same price I could also get me Thunder Force 4, lol. A masterpiece vs whatever this game is. Although Beast Quest is a steal for $2.99 considering that it retails for $29.99.

I'm pretty sure this game was developed for a younger audience...those who can't figure out the complicated controls. It's a great game for them or for those who just want an easy to enjoy game.

Dude, it's not just a generic story, this is based off of the popular book series, so the story is copied from the book. Upon research I see how popular the series is, it should have been mentioned. Just a friendly heads up dude.

It may be based on a series but that doesn't stop the story that is told in this game from being just mediocre. Let's just say after playing this game I wasn't itching for more of its plot.

Comparing this to Quest 64 seems really spot on. That remark convinced be to pick this up on a recent sale. I really like a simple game. I don’t play a lot of RPG’s but I actually completed Quest 64 back in the day. Looking forward to this. Thanks for the review.

Picked up a book yesterday from a 2nd hand book shop because I was drawn in by the cool covers of the monster and the free cards inside. Read the book for like 20 minutes and I could tell the writing is really aimed for kids. Id enjoy it more if I were a kid and I saw comments that people did enjoyed it when they were young. So out of curiosity for the series, found out there are a ton of books and a game was made a few years ago for it. This game would be top tier for me back in like 2005 for pc games where I played point and click adventure games because my pc is bad lmao

Loved playing this on IOS a year or so back. It played similar to infinity blade (another iOS title). Can’t imagine this being half as fun without touch controls, but as usual another great review man.

I dunno I'm kind of interested. I'm mulling it over. What I've been looking for is something that takes me back the the original Dragon Warrior on the NES or Dragon Quest (JPN). I didn't care for the games going forward in the series and much preferred the western styling featured in the book and box art. The limitation of the game made it easy to imagine the world being as such as it was portrayed in the western artwork for the game. Quest 64 did give me a little of that feeling but I never really got into it. I thought Dragon's Dogma was so close to giving me what I am looking for but just needed some tweaking and fleshing out. I don't like convoluted skill trees and leveling mechanics nor tons and tons of looting and crafting. I just want to play the adventure and explore and not get bogged down in menus. I like keeping character growth limited comparing between most modern games and the games of my youth. I liked the crafting and growth the the first new Tomb Raider game quite a bit. I'd prefer just to find or buy the equipment I need and keep playing the game. The lack of polish here though does make me perhaps want to pass on it after all. I do like the Punch-Out!!! mechanic that Infinity Blade used so well. $40 though is a risk. I wish there where a demo.

I don't think "generic" is a really helpful term for consumers to determine whether they want to buy this game or not. Especially when it's the main focus and criticism in your review. Tell us what generic means. You didn't define any sort of criteria that particularly stood out as generic beyond vague concepts like "characters" I think it would be largely more beneficial if you spent time detailing things you thought were done well or not so well. Honestly, you could strip anything down and say it's generic. You need to tell us what that means in the context of this game.

I'll never understand why people praise that game's "revolutionary combat" when it really just boils down to bad sluggish controls. Any game would be challenging with sluggish controls.

what a shame, I had high hopes for this game to be an open world action adventure like Zelda Breath of the Wild, or an action RPG with an open world setting like Horizon Zero Dawn or the Witcher 3 but Ohhh Boy I was wrong. could have been a cool concept if it's released as a PS Move game for the ps3 years ago.

Lol hadn’t heard of this so I passed this over when first browsing the spring sale. On off chance I wondered what it is and say it’s $1.99. The description made me think of dragons dogma so here I am. Lo and behold, the first thing I notice is the four empty cir+les which in dragons dogma shows button functionality, namely your skills when you hold l1 or r1 it likely can’t compare to dragons dogma’s amazing gameplay that never gets old for me so seems not even worth 2 bucks. It is based on a novel but is that too generic I wonder? Probably just the gameplay adaptatiomn but if it’s a good book, why sully it’s name with a game like this? I know it is a budget title and I’d like to burn that 2 bucks to try but it wouldn’t be able to compete. the only glitch I know of in dragons dogma is a way to clip through certain doors. Going to be honest, as a grown adult man, I'm a little disappointed. I loved the Beast Quest books and thought this might be a decent game to try, but there were a few issues that were shown in video and not vocalised (BTW, thank you for that, it helps to see other issues appear). I hope the company that developed this gets enough sales to be able to build up a sequel, because it honestly doesn't look bad, just a little low-budget animation quality and buggy. The systems are different, which people don't like, but heck, I thought the combat system looked nice for what it is. For a kids game, I'd say it's not bad... And for a studio that I've never heard of to adapt a game out of the short books, it's quite well done. EDIT: OK, quick correction because I was thinking of the wrong developer, I have heard of these guys... Of course I've heard of these guys... They've made adaptations for so many things. Quick catch-up for everyone- Torus games is a 26 (as of 2020) year old developer, they've made games for pretty much every console since then; Nokia NGage, Game Boy, XBOX, PlayStation, DS, Android, the freaking Leapfrog-Leapstar! They do ground-up developments and ports (like DOOM for DS). I have to admit, knowing that it's them does disappoint me a bit for the level of quality, but also just brings to my mind "how can a 26 year old developer have trouble with animating a dragon?"

The character you play as just looks like Link from The Legend of Zelda, even his clothes looks alot like the Champion Tunic from Breath of the Wild. I bet they were trying to be the non-Nintendo version of BotW but this doesn't even come remotely close in the slightest. What a waste of resources.
