Beastars gets a bad rap for being a "furry anime" just because the characters are anthropomorphic. It's a great story with very deep social commentary and beautiful medaphors. Definitely worth a watch.

what is beastars? it's about behaviorism: base instincts vs cognitive ideals the main character, a male wolf, is constantly fighting his base instincts (hunger, predator, and lust), trying not to be an "evil wolf", but he's searching for a purpose to his existence beyond those base instincts... ultimately he finds his higher purpose, that of a protector, being a fearsome wolf, he can use all of his power for good, to protect those weaker than him, instead of being an "evil beast/predator/etc', of his base instincts, having the value of being a protector instead another main character, is a female rabbit/bunny, and being an easy prey, known for not having a very long life, she tries to live every day to the fullest, as each day could be her last, getting devoured up dead by some hungry predator, so, she's quite promiscuous, normal behavior and mindset is different when you can be dead at any second, whatever experience she can get, she's grateful for, even if she really doesn't want it, but she's okay with letting others have their way with her, does it matter for her, as she might get some pleasure out of it, and she could be torn to shreds and devoured at any moment anyways. So, it's a really interesting dynamic with her and the male wolf... she too struggles with purpose and meaning, her existence feels so empty to her, as so often for rabbits/bunnies, they usually become meals for predators, so, she struggles to feel alive, even with all of the promisquity and interactions/relationships she has, everything of life is just so gloomy and superficial for her... the last main character is the male deer, while he is pretty strong and dangerous, he's still a weak prey, no matter how hard he tries to act tough, and so, there's a lot of dynamic with him, having to accept/realize that he is still a prey, that needs help from others, and trying to find a way to live with such a state of life/existence as best as he can, so there's quite a bit of dynamics with him, the wolf, and the bunny, quite a relationship triangle, laughs there's some more characters too, also with some interesting dynamics as well too, but these 3 are the main characters, it's a really good representation of advanced behaviorism science

Yeah so the whole stop motion thing was because the director really really wanted to do one. The studio who made the anime is Studio Orange and they are the kings of 3D animated shows. Like Beastars looks amazing for a 3D animated show along with their other shows like Land of the Lustrous. Btw the stop motion was incredibly difficult as the puppets used had actual fur so they had to use tweezers and such to move them so as not to disturb the fur between shots. Stop motion is a pain with clay, I can't imagine using actual fur for one even as short as 1 min 30 secs. Beastars final season is slotted for 2024 so we got some time to wait.

This is a super good anime. great overall commentary about society and prejudice but using the lens of Predator and Prey instead.

Have you guys ever considered reacting to the episodes themselves? It's a fantastic show as others have said. I think you two should at least give it a few. And, just to clarify, S2 opening uses animation much more akin to the actual show, instead of S1 opening, where as the opening was being experimental with its animation [in the opening].

Beastars is such a good show! it's pretty deep, and yeah, the bunny is the love interest of the wolf but also the prey(?) react to banana fish openings please! they are soooo good

Do Re:Zero openings and endings! The show is pretty dark and so are the songs. There's a lot of MYTH & ROID and Mayu Maeshima, just like Overlord songs did. All songs are absolute bangers.

Suggestion: react to _86 Eighty-Six_ openings and endings. There's two openings ("3-bun 29-byo" and "Kyokaisen") and three endings ("Avid," "Hands Up to the Sky" and "Alchemilla"). There's a fourth ending called "LilaS" but it's only used in the season finale and plays during a really important scene, so maybe skip that one for now.
