Here's my thing. People who hate jones sit there and ride the band wagon with every other jones hater when they say Reyes "definitely" won. It was a good fight, technically speaking it wasn't a close one, there's a reason there's championship rounds. Realistically Reyes had round 3 in the bag, they exchanged 1 and 2, and Reyes had a decent start in round 4 but ultimately took some VERY hard hits. Then was dominated in round 5, not including the take downs. As for gustafsson THAT was a close fight, very close fight. But again, in both round 4 and 5 jon dominated and in the beginning rounds they exchanged quite a bit, they were both hurt. Hence a split decision. You can all hate jon all you want for his personal life, but as a fighter this guy is the best in the ufc, and it's not an argument.

Man if Santos didn’t lose his entire base w not one but both his knees blowing out like that I think he could’ve def beat him by stoppage in that fight. Would’ve had a solid chance anyway. Crazy he fought on those broken stilts like that. That’s gotta be one of the gutsiest performances of all time. How he wasn’t in excruciating pain w all those ligaments and tendons torn in both knees is crazy. Had to be perfect center tears somehow.

Yeah, every time he caught Jon with those massive punches Jon felt them. The thing was that Santos had the chance of a knockout, but Jones was using all kinds of different techniques.

Peak Jones was so complete, athletic, and cerebral. He has become an even more thoughtful fighter, but when he was at his athletic peak he appeared unbeatable. Silva, Fedor, Khabib, and Aldo had it as well, but none had the unbelievable athleticism; DJ might be the only guy to look as unbeatable as well as being so athletically gifted. Also that Gus fight was his greatest battle, Reyes was also really great, but got'damn that Gus fight was good.

The only thing I wanna see more of from Jonny is his boxing. He throws amazing kicks, knees, and elbows. His wrestling is obviously elite. I just wanna see more with his hands. He’s got the longest reach ever. If he threw more combinations, and really extended his punches, he could be putting people to sleep.

I remember watching Jon Jones early on in his insane title run. The resume of this man is probably the most impressive in UFC LHW history. It was clear he was an insanely talented fighter. Then watching him on Ultimate Fighter, he seemed like such a mature and genuinely kind person. He was a great leader to the guys he was coaching. It really seemed for a while like he had it all, save a few blemishes. It’s sad that he made so many poor decisions in the public eye that ruined that reputation. Otherwise, he absolutely would be widely considered the GOAT without question.

Seeing prime Jones versus guys like Machida, Evans, Vitor and even a previously HW Cormier really reminds you what a massive advantage he had in size. Still insanely impressive nonetheless, but nearly every opponent he faced his own size, he controversially won like versus Gus and Reyes, or had very mediocre fights like when he fought OSP and Anthony Smith.

@mmsizzlak Жыл бұрын
All the guys you named are certainly top top echelon... But those guys trained hard, honed their talent... Jones is the definition of a true genius who was so good that it bored him so he half-assed it and STILL outclassed the best... Those who know call him a genius, while others just couldn't classify it so they called it "a gift from God" in order to explain it... Every other goat dedicated their lives to MMA while Jones was the bored Einstein who got coked up and drugged up and literally gave what he felt like when he felt like it... Even the Kobe's and Jordan's of the world went full blast their entire lives at all times... Jones didn't train hard in combat from day one like khabib or GSP... He's like Will Hunting from Good Will Hunting who just walked in and embarrassed all the established greats and never took it seriously... That's just a small little thought of mine
