The Everly Brothers were an American country-influenced rock and roll duo, known for steel-string acoustic guitar playing and close harmony singing. Consisting of Isaac Donald "Don" Everly (born February 1, 1937) and Phillip "Phil" Jason Everly (January 19, 1939 - January 3, 2014), the duo was raised in a musical family, first appearing on radio singing along with their father Ike Everly and mother Margaret Everly as "The Everly Family" in the 1940s. When the brothers were still in high school, they gained the attention of prominent Nashville musicians like Chet Atkins, who began to groom them for national attention.
They began writing and recording their own music in 1956, and their first hit song came in 1957, with "Bye Bye Love", written by Felice and Boudleaux Bryant. The song hit No. 1 in the spring of 1957, and additional hits would follow through 1958, many of them written by the Bryants, including "Wake Up Little Susie", "All I Have to Do Is Dream", and "Problems". In 1960, they signed with the major label Warner Bros. Records and recorded "Cathy's Clown", written by the brothers themselves, which was their biggest selling single. The brothers enlisted in the United States Marine Corps Reserve in 1961, and their output dropped off, though additional hit singles continued through 1962, with "That's Old Fashioned (That's the Way Love Should Be)" being their last top-10 hit.

Having been recording constantly for 15 years took its toll on The Brothers and they took a ten year break in starting in early 1973.

As pleasant to hear as ever. Sad to think what would happen to them less than 12 months later :(

Cool fact: The daugther of Don Everly, Erin, was the first wife of Axl Rose. The girl Axl dedicated "Sweet child o mine" and many others

They made another album that year called Pass The Chicken & Listen, then nothing together for about ten years til the 80s reunion. Mr. Phil Everly released one solo album a year til 1975 while Mr. Don Everly had a country band called the Dead Cowboys. I was hoping to catch a glimpse of Mssrs. Warren Zevon or Waddy Wachtel in the line-up here… they're both on the Stories We Could Tell album. Well… I'm happy to see the Everlys playing one of the songs off it live at least. "Turn it over, Sam…" Superheavyweights!

Wikipedia is wrong, Phillip has no middle name. Phillip Jason is his first son, with Jackie, the first wife

Feliz 😄

Too bad the record buying public at large completely ignored The EB in the late 60s and early 70s. Great music!

Uschi Nerke's introducing: "And right here a few, almost legendary hit makers from the past*: the Everly Brothers! with 'Stories We could Tell'." * Yes, that's a touch of irony, isn't it Uschi?

John Sebastion wrote it, not Buffet. BJ Thomas also issued a version the same year as the Everlys. John Sebastion played on both studio versions.
