Saw Pat Arnold supporting Southside and the Jukes at Shepherd's Bush on 4/7/24 and she was fantastic. Rolled back the years and her version of "The First Cut" is sublime. At 77 she can still belt out the tunes - a soul survivor indeed!

For those who don't know, she was one of the backing singers for Ike & Tina Turner duo. They were called the Ikettes. This song was actually written by Cat Stevens and he sold it to PP Arnold for £30. Cat Stevens did actually perform his original version of this song as an Album track. Rod Stewart's version was much later. Great song though and enduring, as so many of Cat Stevens (Yousef) songs are ❤

My favorite virgin of this song is the 2nd virgin recorded, Cat Stevens, who wrote it and did a demo of it back in 1965. PP's hit in spring 1967 was the first recorded studio virgin. Cat then recorded it for real in October 1967 and although I like PP and other virgins of the song, I prefer Cat's original, being a big Cat fan anyway.
