Hi folks, please bear in mind that I earn next to nothing from KZbin, currently (years later in 2024) I have been earning only around £55 a month from KZbin. The iOS music app tutorial niche is tiny, and that is why so many people have quit recently. The Apple appstore has no affiliate program. Devs and viewers are gaining far more from the current status quo than youtubers like me. With little support from devs and viewers I am starting to lose the motivation to continue doing this work, despite my passion for iOS music. It's very time consuming and I can't afford to keep supplementing this with my other work. I'm not a big earner and I really need to think about my economic wellbeing both now and in the future. Any financial support is badly needed and gratefully received 🙏 : Patreon (also has a free tier btw): www.patreon.com/Gavinski BuyMeACoffee www.buymeacoffee.com/953211370u PayPal: paypal.me/GavinskisTutorials Back to Beatcutter: There is a great helpful thread on the audiobus forum here if you have questions: forum.audiob.us/discussion/44507/beatcutter-crowdsourcing-the-learning-curve#latest Don’t forget you can follow me on Twitter, Insta and Threads. Oh and here is a bonus for y'all: a very clear description of how the app works in one paragraph, written by Celtic Elk at the Audiobus Forum. (Be there or Be Square btw, it is a great resource!) 'The realization that made this app start to make sense for me is this: each cell is a dynamically-triggered sampler. Each of the buses represent a stage in the sample/playback process: the input bus defines the sound source for a cell, the trigger bus defines the conditions for recording (trigger conditions, sample length), the control bus defines important aspects of playback (pitch, direction, how many times a cell plays before it empties, whether its first playback is delayed for one or more cycles), the sequence bus triggers playback (and can contribute to sampling as well, depending on how you set the trigger bus), and the output bus (which has two pages, one for effects/filtering and one for level/pan/EQ) handles downstream processing when a cell is played. Each trigger bus records no more than one cell when it fires; each sequence bus plays no more than one cell when it fires. It gets complicated from there, obviously, but that’s the basic setup.' 👍👍👍

I think there are musicians who have a strong need to understand the apps they use in great detail and to be able to control it. Others are more the throw the spaghetti against the wall and see if sticks or not. An app like this is not daunting at all for spaghetti slingers like myself because we already get plenty of instant gratification by pushing the buttons, sliders, and dials, and over the course of time as we use the app we begin to understand it more and gain a deeper appreciation of the app and learn how to use it at a deeper level. I think you’re less of a spaghetti slinger which is why your videos are so detailed and useful to everyone especially the suggestions you have for improving GUIs. Very few developers are good at everything so if a developer is open to your and other users suggestions it can really help to shape the app in a positive direction. I didn’t find the app that cryptic when I used it before viewing your app. It’s safe to say that I also knew there were many things I had no clue about. In general we’re seeing the basic incompatibility of a brainstorming mode of thinking and an editing mode. Hopefully with this app the user community can help the developer with his editing process. It’d be nice and more convenient if all apps came out fully baked, but I think that’s something to aspire to and be thankful for when it happens. I’m not opposed to your and others hesitation to support the app due to its non-intuitive and dysfunctional aspects because perhaps this will encourage the developer to do himself and others a favor by seeking more assistance when it comes to refining his apps for release so that he and other people will have to deal with less frustration, confusion, or buyers remorse . . . essentially expanding his user base beyond the spaghetti slingers or those who can figure out how to navigate around its deficiencies. Taking out of the box ideas and developing them into accessible solutions is not an easy task. Collaboration with others throughout the design process would seem like a practical solution to overcome this challenge so your vision can escape the confines and myopia of your own POV.

I can completely sympathize with how you are or were feeling about Beatcutter.. Love/Hate relationship.. that’s my feeling on nearly every app I open.. that is, until I find that idea + sound that spark the flame of creativity.. 🔥 “What am I doing with this app? Which other app would work here? Hmm, that 🍎 or 🍊 looks pretty tasty right about now.. What would Chopsticks sound like being played through this app? Is this even on? Hey, what was that?” That’s my general process.. might get tweaked a bit depending on the app.. 🤣 Bugger it indeed.. Kudos to you Gavin for sticking with it + toughing it out.. you know us too well.. this just looks bafflingly complex to my eyes.. a video such as this is ESSENTIAL for anyone wishing to delve into this beast.. I won’t even pretend to comprehend what is going on here.. 👀 🤷♂️ So I really appreciate the effort involved with making this for us.. 🙏 (and I am a manual reader).. BUT.. it does peak my curiosity.. 🐈 No doubt Igor’s apps are unique.. and I applaud that.. I do enjoy exploring the details of an app.. only thing is time.. If I’m in a what-does-this-do mood, I’ll take that journey.. Most of the time (lately), I’ve got an idea in my head itching to get out.. somehow.. somewhere.. BUT.. RIGHT NOW! That’s not the time to grab complex apps.. Not exactly sure if this is up my alley or not.. even after watching the video.. If I was lucky enough to win a copy of Beatcutter I’d surely be a paws-on-piano cat searching for the right “sound”.. 😁 or just hit the randomize button.. over.. +.. over.. Thanks a bunch for this madness.. I really dug it.. 👍

Insane sound machine. Love Igor’s apps. They all unfortunately require a lifetime to master, but fun well spent. Still glad it comes with a manual. Thanks for the overview.
@peterormonde10383 жыл бұрын
Igor's manuals are a wonderful read ... his previous apps have been utterly incomprehensible but the manuals are delivered in a delightfully authentic Russian accent - not much attempt at English grammar or sentence structure, missing words - missing "the's"... he demands that you just work it out. Be as determined as he obviously is. Not many manuals can make me laugh. Painfully authentic. It's like reading Gogol in his own words rather than fancy translation. Needs vodka! It cantake years to really get on top of his eccentric and unique instruments... still learning new stuff they can do. A great innovator. Bit of an oracle... needs interpreting. Great vid incidentally ... valiant effort. Thank christ fer random buttons. Not so much percussion as concussion in my hands so far. Might try the manual. Might need a bottle.
@GavinskisTutorials3 жыл бұрын
Haha, I enjoy your comments a lot Peter, and I am sure Igor will too if / when he reads this. I commented on Twitter that if you get off on reading something as dense as Heidegger you'll be in your element with the Beatcutter manual. Each sentence is packed with meaning but will be utterly impenetrable to the uninitiated. The unfortunate truth about Igor's manuals is that only those who understand the apps can understand the manuals. The chicken comes before the egg in this world. I understand this app, and hence the manual, lol, so much better after another week of intense time with it and some great posts from Celtic Elk in the AB Forum that clarified certain key aspects for me. There may at some point even be a part 2 video showing how you never need to touch a single randomizer button in this app and can learn to predictably dial things in. We're talking jedi level shit here, stay tuned 🤫

It's like if Sector and Different Drummer had a baby. I agree that the interface isn't exactly user friendly, but I like what I'm hearing. I'll definitely take a chance on Beatcutter if the random numbers roll my way.

Thanks for exploring this app Gavin. Please enter me for Beatcutter as it’s the only one of Igor’s apps that I don’t have. 😎

WTF! You tamed the beast. let’s be having a bit of beat cutter please!

Whoops! I just realised my comment wasn’t loaded. This app is absolutely nuts. Igor does indeed seem to be a mad genius who makes highly original though often inscrutable beasties. I’d love an iOS copy of BeatCutter if Lady Luck is smiling on me or if not may she smile on you. :)

Thanks! Igor's apps are so unique, I also have ClassicFX, SynthScaper and SoundScaper and I love them, I hope I can win a code for this BeatCutter ❤

I bought SynthScaperLE last days and it is great. My goal in this competition is "BeatCutter" :)

Insane, is probably the right word to describe this app. Not exactly my preferred app, but interesting to know that it exists. Should I win, I'd like SynthScaper

@@GavinskisTutorials 😬 I have no idea about how useful the UI is but IMO it is the best looking UI by Igor. Makes me wanna use it and call my song “the matrix” 🥸😂

Btw i do agree that at least Igor’s effects have quite confusing UIs... tbh that’s why I NEVER use Classic FX. It pains me to dial settings in heheh even though it’s a great app.

Hmmm, watch to the end and tell me you couldn't imagine this having a ten times better UI Enrique....

You are a brave man Gavin! 🤘🏼 I can’t say I find any manual an enjoyable read, and would much rather watch one of your tutorials, but couldn’t quite manage to get into this one. That said, I would rather win the Classic FX app. It may be more suitable for me. Have fun with this one.

Yup, bugger of a manual this one Mick!

Another great and foundational iOS music developer. If Igor says Beatcutter is the weirdest app ever then this must be seriously wacky, so put me in for this one. He has some of the best extreme apps and some of the best production apps. I have used Audio Mastering so much. But I agree with the interface design. There is little spacial information design, you have to just know what each control does and how it affects other knobs.

I am definitely in for BeatCutter. Have to try this after all these speculative functionality and talk that is going on. I like Igor‘s Apps quite a lot and they grow on one over the time. Still using his *Scapers with love.

This looks like a must-have app for any experimentalist. As we say in Russia: Ни*** не понятно, но очень интересно! (I don't understand a shit, but it's very interesting!)
