Well, whichever area you'll find yourself in, one thing you'll always have is a heart of gold. Don't let them take it from you... 32:16 that's anything but "some random guy". That is the spirit version of the real Penetrator. Those red phantoms aren't random npcs. Those are what remain of the real heroes of Boletaria: Metas, knight of the lance; Alfred, Knight of the Tower and Long Bow Oolan, leader of the phalanx. The demonic bosses you fight are replacements instead of corruptions of the actual people. Just like False King Allant is a demonic doppelganger of the real King Allant. By the way, the real tower knight wields the scraping spear even though that's made from the boss soul of the Phalanx. That's some residue from early in development where the tower knight and the phalanx were switched around. There's a cut cutscene of the tower knight in the Phalanx' location.

That's really interesting lore, I had no idea! I'm not familiar with the lore in this game, but it makes more sense than just being a random guy with the sword. With the boss switching, I believe there was something like that in DS3 as well with Sulyvahn and Aldrich right? Funny how it comes full circle!

A rando has the penetrator sword because he is the Penetrator. The three phantoms there are the original human forms of the three champions of Boletaria. The Tower Knight, The Penetrator, and the archer is the Phalanx. Their boss forma are them after they've been turned into Demons, hence their giant forms and inhumanity. This is more or less confirmed in the remake when the Phalanx leaves a soul silhouette of the archer woman when it dies. So the game was playing with the phantoms being much lamer looking, while the Demon forms are how the kingdom viewed them as heroes, grandiose and larger than life.

That "random guy", who drops the Penetrating Sword is the Penetrator himself. Souls of 3 bosses from the level are there - Phalanx, the archer, Tower Knight and Penetrator. According to lore, they were the best of Allants knights. GG on the run, I don't have that much patience :)

Fun Fact, you get the penetrator sword from that guy because all of those people are the human forms of the 3 boletaria bosses. The woman with the bow is Phalanx, the guy with the tower shield is the tower knight, and the guy with the sword is the Penetrator

Fun fact: Those random NPC's at the end are the Phalanx, Tower Knight and Penetrator in their non demon forms! That's why you get the Penetrator Sword from that dude because, well, it's the actual dude.

I never really enjoyed Demon's Souls like I did DkS1/2 and BB, but man I always loved the look and atmosphere of 2009 DeS. As beautiful as the remake is, it really doesn't quite capture the mood of the original. Glad to see this game being run!

Demons Souls is one of my favorite games, both the original and the remaster just love the story, and game play to it. I even like all those mechanics people hate such as gender-locked armor. With all that in mind it is best look at as a playable Beta build of Dark Souls.
