@alexharker72232 жыл бұрын
This was one of the first games I bought in 1997 when I got the N64. I also had the player's guide and, watching this video, made me realize just how much tougher this game would have been without that. I don't know if I would have discovered some of the vital secrets like letting off the gas right before hitting a boost or the location of all the keys (which wasn't even shown in this review). It also told how to do a really tight turn (I think A, B, R, and a turn direction) which is absolutely vital on the silver coin races. Seeing him drive straight into the water after getting one of the silver coins made me wonder if he even knew about it because a tight turn can save you in those moments. I haven't played this game since the late 90s but hearing him say how difficult he found some of the courses (I remember Greenwood Village silver coin and Wizpig race 1 very vividly) validates my accomplishments as a 12-year-old beating this game 100%.

When I was young I figured out all that when I was young but the hunt for the tt door (lighthouse) which we couldn't beat wizpig so it wouldn't open anyways but damn did we still search... I never could beat all the time trials to unlock TT. I did love using Drumstick the rooster though, unlocked much more easily by running over a frog that had a rooster comb. As for Wizpig, I found the first race super hard and the second almost trivial. With brake-turning the plane, steering was extremely accurate.

The reason Nintendo didn't put up much of a fight to keep Rare is because the people they believed were the most responsible for Rare's success had all left the company by 2002. Combine this with the retirement of Rare's founders (Tim and Chris Stamper) Nintendo chose to sell high on their investment, sensing an impending decline. But what a magical run Rare had with Nintendo! Easily one of the strongest partnerships in the gaming era with many memorable and high-quality games :)

The racers in this game have no rubber banding, so on the silver coin challenges you can just spend the first lap giving yourself a solid lead. It's the best strategy by far. 11:25 _"One thing I haven't mention yet is there's an advanced technique that's pretty much required to beat Wizpig"_ Yeah ... when I first played this game, back in the 90's, I somehow missed it when I was told that, so I didn't know about that technique and beat Wizpig, and the whole game (including the second race against Wizpig), without even knowing that technique existed. The adventure continues when you finish and you have to do the whole thing again, with everything reversed. It was during that second half of the adventure that I learnt about the technique, and of course once I knew about that I became completely unbeatable at this game! The 3DS version did NOT exclude the Rare characters because Nintento owned the rights to the game. In fact, those of us who still think this was the best cart racing game of all time are hoping that they will bring it to Switch Online at some stage...

11:26 The funny thing about the boost technique is that there's nothing in the game that hints at this being a thing, so as a kid back in the late 90's I kept trying and trying, but just couldn't beat Wizpig. I launched the game every once in a while to try to beat him, but just couldn't, not even as I was getting older. Then fast forward 10 years and I found out about the special boost technique randomly online, and I finally beat him... ...Only to realize that wasn't even the end of the game! I still had a new world to beat, and "Adventure Two" Edit: By the way, Adventure Two is much more difficult than Adventure. The AI is better, and the silver coins in the coin races are placed in completely obnoxious locations sometimes where you have to take insane detours to collect them, which makes it very hard to collect them all and place 1st. Understandable to skip it tho, it would take too much time and you had tons of other games to work through!

Drumstick is unlocked by running over a specific frog, and T.T. from clearing all the time trials (he's fast enough to lap everyone in a single race on Ancient Lake). Besides mirror mode, Adventure Two has different silver coin locations that are viewed to be harder.
