In TES lore, godhood is retroactive. Specifically the way Tiber Septim went about it. He became Talos by mantling Lorkhan, the dead/dreaming god. Mantling is the process in TES whereby you “walk as they did until they walked as you do”. Essentially you become so indistinguishable from the other entity spiritually that you *become* the other entity, and not only do you become that entity, you become them so entirely that you always were them. It’s the same lore bit that’s behind the Nerevarine in Morrowind. You walk as he did (doing all those tasks in the prophecy which mirror Indoril Nerevar’s life, such as the birth circumstances, uniting the Dunmer tribes (who are the descendants of the Chinese tribes he united) and being able to wear Moon-and-Star (being chosen by Azura). You finish mantling Nerevar at the end when you kill Dagoth Ur and destroy the Heart of Lorkhan. A similar process is taking place as far as I know in Skyrim with the Dragonborn and Shezarr, but I don’t know as much about Shezarr so I won’t comment on what exactly matches up. TLDR; godhood is retroactive because when he became a divine he mantled Lorkhan, not only becoming him but becoming always having been him. It’s weird and trippy cause it’s a remnant of Kirkbride.
@HappyBeezerStudios2 ай бұрын
Shezzar/Lorkhan is even more chaotic. (Shezzar is the cyrodilic version, Lorkhan is the elven version, Shor is the nordic version) The fact that the Underking, Pelinal Whitestrake and Ysmir Wulfharth also were avatars of Lorkhan. The Underking might be Mannimarco (who possibly also became a moon) but also opposed to Mannimarco, or Tiber Septim's battlemage Zurin Arctus, or Ysmir Wulfharth. Zurin Arctus might've also put his soul into the Mantella to power the Numidium when Tiber Septim conquered Tamriel with it. Or he used the soul of Ysmir Wulfhearth. Or the soul of the Underking. (Who, again, also became a moon) He might also be Ysmir Wulfhearth. Oh, and Tiber Septim also had the title Ysmir. Yeah, the warp in the west is some weird stuff. And as a sidenote: The Redguards on Yokuda developed basically sword-based magic, and possibly sunk their continent with that. The dwemer on the other hand tried to built god, and possibly gained so much insight into reality and the fact that everything is just the dream of a mad god, so they zero summed themselves out of existance.

@@HappyBeezerStudios Pelinal is unconfirmed, it's not a fact that he's a Shezzarine, it's a popular theory. Wulfharth is pretty much the only character who's almost certainly a Shezzarine. The Underking definitely wasn't and isn't as ambiguous as you're trying to make it sound. Zurin Arctus was the Underking and he definitely put his soul in the Mantella, that's why he wanted your help in Daggerfall, but by using the divine power of Numidium to free himself from that bond and allow his body to die, it seems he sort of erased himself from all existence, or at least erased himself from time beyond his original battle with Numidium. What causes confusion is his contemporary, Ysmir Wulfharth held the same title, Ysmir just held it at the time while it came much later for Zurin, after his "death". In response to the original comment, you're saying all this like it's definite fact, which it definitely isn't. Tiber didn't act like Lorkhan at all, not even using his heart to power Numidium, since that was being held by the Tribunal. I have no idea where you're getting the idea he mantled Lorkhan. That wouldn't even make sense as he was made one of the divines, while Lorkhan is a lot more tied to Nirn, not so much Aetherius and his hall is in Sovngard, where Talos is nowhere to be seen. It seems more likely to me that the blood magic that kept anyone but his descendants from using the totem that controls him is what pushed him into divinity after the destruction of the Mantella, if he mantled anything, it was the brass god Numidium, powered by Zurin Arctus. Which could explain why he only arose to divinity after the events of Daggerfall, where the Mantella merged timelines for a moment. All just theory as everything with Elder Scrolls lore, but your two interpretations really don't jive with what's actually shown in Daggerfall, which did do things a bit differently than the Todd games, but they still seem to keep the lore in the first two games, so they're definitely still worth noting if you're going to have a discussion that is directly tied to the events of them.
@thew00dsman792 ай бұрын
@@plebisMaximusI mean every ending in Daggerfall is canon because of Dragon Breaks, and Tiber Septim didn’t mantle any god as far as I know, but he did use the Mantella in place of The Heart of Lorkahn to power the Numidium, said Mantella has either Ysmir Wulfharth’s or Zurin Arctis’s souls, or both, and I think Talos is all three of them together, basically? I know there’s an avatar of Talos in Morrowind you can meet in a ruin
@plebisMaximus2 ай бұрын
@@thew00dsman79 The divine nature of Talos, while indisputable contrary to what the Thalmor claims, is definitely debatable. The only facts we have are that he wasn't a divine in Daggerfall, he was in Morrowind. Meeting him in Morrowind and using his artifact in place of "divine blood" in Oblivion proves that Tiber Septim has definitely ascended to godhood, but whether Arctus and Wulfharth are a part of that, if yes, how big a part, why releasing the Mantella made him a god and so on is all stuff you can debate and discuss for all eternity with countless acceptable interpretations. My comment was mostly just going against the increasingly popular trend among TES lore fans to point at everything vague and just call it a shezzarine because it's an easy explanation. Not to set anything in stone because like everyone else, I also don't know the truth because there is none lol.

32:33 Actually, I think that’s exactly it, it is retroactive. Mostly as a way to excuse some lore changes such as Cyrodiil no longer being a massive swamp, when Bethesda introduced the concept of Dragon Break to merge the diverging endings of Daggerfall into a single narrative, they made it so that Talos (and thus all of his human... “components”) had always been a god, much as Cyrodiil has always not been a swamp. Bethesda’s incessant retcons end up making for some interesting lore concepts.

I always hated and still hated that there are and were Immortal NPC's that you cannot kill, even if they are just some tavern keeper. I think it is as if the game designers think of us as little children that need to be prevented from breaking the toys. If I want to kill plot-relevant character, let me do it DANGNABIT! I can understand some people, like deities, being immortal etc. but a tavern keeper? Seriously?
@alleecattwos2 ай бұрын
It was actually supposed to be so that important npcs couldn’t accidentally die as they were walking around, since Oblivion was the first game Bethesda had done where NPCs could actually wander around and into dangerous areas. They ended up compromising in Skyrim and making most important NPCs only killable by the player, with a few main quest NPCs being marked as essential just for the sake of quest scripting. I would certainly prefer it if TES 6 did something like Morrowind and made the main quest technically still completable even if you kill everyone, but I would also understand if they didn’t. It’s hard to write a story that works like that.

I need understood until now that Dagon doesn't lose at the end of Oblivion. I mean it's obvious, how can a being that cannot die ever lose? It seems like Dagon is a constant, much like the other Daedra, except Jyggalag and the one that got devoured. I wonder if they stand for something, like sins, or concepts. In this case, Dagon would embody the sin of wrath, though other Princes may embody wrath better. Dagon does embody Conquest, the secret 5th horseman of the apocalypse, unless I got my Biblical headcanon jumbled up...

Based PatricianTV enjoyer? Good mic, good voice, funny, entertaining actually with a good script. Lots of new wave challenge channels (people jumping on after MittenSquad, Nerbit, and Jabo) just boringly describe their actions in detail, like summarizing the game, almost talking down to their audience like we can't pay attention to what is happening on the screen and draw connections between X and Y events, instead of actually offering interesting commentary on game itself or the run. You don't get bogged down too much in the "first I did X, then I did Y, then I did Z" so you're able to go "off script" so to speak and actually say something funny, or drop a comment for us loreheads, etc. And a good, genuinely interesting run idea that I actually wanted to know the answer to. Plenty of channels, because they are out of ideas, basically just go "can I do [thing that is obviously possible]" but this was the first of these videos in a while where I was like...damn....I don't know (and I have literally thousands of hours in Oblivion). And yes, it is retroactive. Another thing I was thinking about: your comment about the Mysterium Xarxes, perhaps it really was telling Martin what he wanted to hear, that is, a way to retrieve the amulet of kings and kill Mankar Camoran, two things that ultimately, Dagon wanted Martin to do. It removes Camoran from the equation and brings Martin to the Imperial City, where Dagon can kill him, which he succeeds at doing (as you've pointed out), destroying both Martin and the Amulet (the dynastic powers of the Empire). The Amulet's existence is a threat to Dagon's plan, even with Camoran having it, some long lost Septim heir could reclaim it and restore the Empire's legitimacy. Martin's existence is a threat as well, as a genuine heir to the throne. Remember, Dagon doesn't care about the invasion per se, so Dagon needs both gone (which he succeeds at doing). If you get deep into the 'freakin ebic lore' of the series (you may already know all this), the physical world is ostensibly held up (in a metaphysical sense) by the "towers", which each have a stone associated with them, and the White Gold is one such "Tower" with the Amulet being its "stone". The ES cosmology is basically just gnostic (Lorkhan is essentially either the demiurge or Sophia), which is why Elves hate Lorkhan and Talos. Lorkan for tricking their ancestor spirits into taking physical form (and thus opening themselves up to suffering and death) and Talos/Tiber Septim for undergoing apotheosis and basically proving it is possible for Men to achieve gnosis ("CHIM" in ES lore). Many major characters/factions are all about finding a way back or out of the physical world, Vivec (the "six ways" to heaven), the dwemer (building their own anti-God) and the thalmor. Popular fan theory is the Thalmor want to ban Talos worship to destabilize the physical world, as Talos now acts as one of the "Towers" keeping the physical world stable to try and help men achieve gnosis. Most gods are mythopoeic, they are stronger or not based on how much they are worshipped and their own willpower. Anyway, my point is, perhaps Dagon wants to speed up this process for some reason, which is why he wants to destroy White Gold (as far as its abstract metaphysical powers are concerned) and the Amulet.
