Beating Out Dirt Rooster and Mr.Ed On The First Swarm of 2021

Let the new swarm season begin here in North Alabama. After a moderate winter the bees are ready to explode from their hives and get to work. Thankfully these didn't go far. I found them across the street from my apiary and couldn't ask for a better setup. Ground level swarms are a beekeepers dream. Catching the queen before you shake them, PRICELESS.
So far, the 3 Amigos, Jpthebeeman, 628DirtRooster and everyone's favorite Mr.Ed have yet to report catching a swarm. So I call it as the first catch of 2021. I will have to admit, Schawee has caught one. But I'm not sure if that counts. You can't always trust a Cajun Coonass.
So this is proof that it's on from here out and I'm geared up and ready for another great season of bee fun. Yall check back with Yappy and thanks for checking out my video.

So, some fella gave me three hives of 'real calm and friendly' bees because I lived on a farm. I put them under a wattle tree on the side of the turkey's nest dam behind the horse sheds. Happy bees made heaps of beeautiful honey. We could taste the wattle flower, the slight tinge of eucalyptus made it singularly delicious. But, the gathering was a learning experience. The hives were full to overflow, so I rang the good fellow for advice. He was busy , too busy to come out that day . " Just put on some leather gloves, long sleeves and trousers. Ya, don't need hat nets or any of that with those peaceful hives, " he insisted. Riiight. I got dressed. Welly boots, long pants, sleeves, gloves and a big floppy hat. Without a moment's hesitation I lifted the first lid and shook a few thousand bees off to git the frame. OK, I did have a smoker and gave 'em a few good puffs first. The bees seemed unconcerned at my scraping and knocking. I lifted another frame. One single sting, I ignored. The next sting too. About the half way of lifting that third frame a change came in the noise. I stopped. I smoked 'em a lot more. BAM. BAMMITTY, BAM.. The little beggars had crawled down mu collar and were trapped in my shirtfront stinging. Maybe I threw that frame back into the box and chucked the lid on top real quick and ...may have uttered an exclamation of annoyance. Swatting at trapped bbeeeezz. Slapping my face, my shirt, my head, myyyy, oh, my, I was in trouble plenty. Giving voice to my anguish I discarded all caution and leapt feet first into that turkey's nest dam all of the while slapping and clawing at the pesky blooming bbeezzzzzz. I came up for air and I swear that they were waiting for me. Bam, bam straight onto my face and a dozen more into the sloppy wet hat. I got air and went under for a longer spell and good frog kick got me a good way towards the centre and deeper water. I went up and down a few times and got out on the furtherest side. 'Dang beez can keep their honey for a while longer I reckon', me thinks. OH, sure the guy came up the next day and made it look easy. 'Maaate, there is some good honey here", he shouted to me a distance, through his securely netted apparel. I never did try agin'. Not afraid , mind youall. Just intolerant of being bitten a couple dozen times and dunkin' meselv me mucky green duck dunged dam water on even the hottest of days. I can suffer a few bee stings and not raise a care, but given ten heart starters in quick succession with the promise of a thousand more sort of makes my belly turn to liquid and my feet begin to make those patter, patter movements like on a cartoon. And he is Goooooone.

I was attacked by an angry swarm of bees when I was 8 years old. I was doing some errands for my mom. When I arrived to the shop, a woman was spraying Raid randomly at the air... Turned out to be bees and they were angry AF and noone else was there but me. The bees stung me 278 times on my way back to home. I was an horrible experience. My mom used a pair of eyebrow tweezers to take the stings out of my skin. Now, KZbin is recommending this channel to relive those fond memories...

I was once attacked as a kid too, I was like 7 or 8 and I was playing in the woods by this camping reserve. Then my sibling dares me to pick up this apple fsr I can’t remember, so I do and I go to turn it around and there I’m was like eight bees in it. As soon as I saw them they all just instantly attacked my face and scared the shit outta me. I was stung like ten times, maybe not as much as you but mannn that was scary lol.

It will attack with demented, determined ferocity until you cannot move through paralysis, even after which the bees will continue to kamikaze dive boom you until your last whispering breath stops drifting an essence into their airways. All of which is not at all pleasant or comfortable for those of us who just sitting here to watch. Amazing job. Grew up in the city, I don't think I've ever seen any bees :( love the vids! What is that plastic thing where u put the queen in? Can she get out of it after you move her in her new home?

The march is so cool. It's amazing how fast they can communicate with pheromones. I wish humans had them. Just sniffin each other pits for valuable information.

In Wine Country this is very important to have Beekeepers. I learned this while studying in a short Wine Course in South Africa. I also learned Yappy is not an uncommon name there either except it is spelled "Jeppe".
