Fun fact about the birdcage walk march . It is composed by a Welsh guards bandmaster . That's why it sounds like a Welsh guard march to me. It's amazing to see Royal Marines play a Welsh guard march on their beating retreat in May 2018.

You forgot the beauty of the Euphonium sound, blending seamlessly with those on the melodic theme. Piccolo's are well positioned in the counter-melody, not overbearing as in so many other performances.

Interesting: "By the left". That is highly unusual. Normally the senior drum major walks in the middle. This is the weirdest thing. Obviously they massed the usual five bands, but the two "left" drum majors are only walking in seconds before they reach Horse Parade. Really, truly weird.

Who were those gentlemen at the end marching in the grass? Looked like a detachment of black marchers. Hope that isn't segregation in the UK. Anyway I just LOVE these posts and the music! And I love those old streetlights. Unfortunately over here in the states they are slowly being replaced. Great sound and color to go along with the video!
@ken-u3n6 жыл бұрын
The guys at the end of the video were the Band and Pipers of the United Arab Emirates ( one of the guest bands ) who accompanied the Massed Bands of the Foot Guards on their way from Wellington Barracks to Horse Guards. They, and other guest performers, take up their positions off-stage, ready for their own performance.
@sirderam16 жыл бұрын
There is not, and never has been, segregation in the UK armed forces. If you visit London and look at the bronze friese at the base of Nelson's Column in Trafalgar Square, you will see a seaman with very distinct negroid features serving the cannon shoulder to shoulder with his shipmates. The battle of Trafalgar occured in 1805. Whoever he was, he was a free man because it had long been established that no one could be legally "owned" by another person in Britian.
